Saunders - Murray Postponed due to BJS Injury

"Unbeaten WBO middleweight titleholder Billy Joe Saunders has suffered an injury to his hand which has led to the postponement of his April 14 domestic clash with countryman Martin Murray.

Saunders, who is rated No. 3 by THE RING at 160 pounds, was looking to build on his emphatic unanimous decision win over former world titleholder David Lemieux in December. The slick lefty will now headline against Murray on June 23 at the original venue, the O2 Arena in London.
“I’m gutted for Martin and I’m gutted for the fans,” said Saunders (26-0, 12 knockouts). “I felt my hand go during a session this week and sought medical advice immediately. Unfortunately, I’ve been told that I can’t punch anything for four weeks so we’ve been left with no choice but to withdraw from the date...."

Hope they reschedule the fight and allow Murray a chance to have a go at the title.

No I think it is genuine. The last thing BJS would want is to go into fight the winner of that one cold. Needs to be right on his game mentally and physically to do well there.

Gotta be honest GGG was the first thing I thought as well, maybe Eddie has finally managed to turn his head, BJS has already said that Hearn is trying to groom him.

After Canelo failing his second drug test GGG has said he would move onto Saunders if the fight does not go ahead, so maybe Imp is right. I think it's a genuine injury though.

Sounds like Frank Warren was yet again struggling to sell tickets, Saunders said earlier (Start of Video Below) that he "sprained/badly bruised" his hand during the Lemiuex fight?

Strange because i don't remember anyone mentioning it at all in the days after the fight or at any other time after that fight.

Is he holding out to see if GGG v Canelo is going to be called off?

It is a bit weird. He was also punching with it unprotected in that I-film interview explaining the basics of throwing a jab to Eubank Jr :-\

Basically Saunders/Warren are lying to the fans, BJS clearly states the hand injury happened during the Lemiuex fight but here he is only weeks ago using both hands with no problems at all ;)

I don't think he wants any risk at all (Murray) that could derail his dream of facing Golovkin $$$$$

They could have postponed it the second Warren uttered the 02 and Martin Murray, he only books that venue to stop Hearn getting the dates, he can't even fill the copperbox let alone the O2.

I am sure they have a June date re-arranged now.

In that interview Saunders said drug cheats should be banned for life, never allowed to box again, 100%.... then it dawned on him he's sitting in Kid Galahad's house (best mates with Tyson Fury too), so backpeddled to a "big fine" at least ;D

Murray's no threat, I think poor ticket sales and the Canelo fight still up in the air lead to this so called 'injury', they are waiting to see how things play out there.

Agreed with alpha. Whatever the real reason is here, it’s not because Murray is a risk. Look how much grief he had with gabe rosado not long ago, easily could have lost that.
