WBSS Cruiserweight II
They haven't decided on the weights for season 2 of the WBSS yet, as far as I'm aware.
Who else thinks round 2 at Cruiser would be awesome?
You have the winner, lets say Usyk
Briedis who fought well against Usyk
No reason Gassiev couldn't return
Lebedev, his fight with Gassiev was razor thin.
Glowacki is still a contender
Dorticos could return
Vlasov is on a nice run
The last spot could be filled by 1 of the following:
Lerena
Bejenaru
Tabiti
Masternak/ Kalenga winner
Askin
Another lot of entertaining fights, with the best fighting the best.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
I wouldnt mind seeing the cruisers again but I assume if Usyk wins he'll move up to heavy in search of big money fights.
I think Bantomweight is a certainty and there are some cracking fighters to go in there.
Burnett,
Tete,
Rigondeaux,
McDonnell/Inoue winner (or both if its a close fight)
Butler/Rodriguez winner
Wangek and a few other super flys
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
I'm not sure Usyk would go straight to heavyweight, obviously that's where the money is, but if he can get decent purses for a second round he may be enticed to stick around and clean out the division and defend his titles. I agree tho he'll move up sooner rather than later.
Bantam would be awesome, as would 175 and 126. Many divisions are starting to get the top fights made, more of these tournaments are needed, not just among the top guys but also tourneys with the fringe fighters to establish contenders.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Holyfields 147 comp which started last night looks pretty decent. No where near the top dogs in the division (and unlikely ever will be) but still entertaining. Just watching a replay on boxnation now.

Yep, no fighters announced yet tho.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
So who's gonna be involved in this?
The best ones just finished fighting?
Wonder if Bellews up for this?

No announcement on participants yet. Maybe Usyk/ Bellew could become part of the first round.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Are there going to be repeats I wonder? Or are they going to get a whole new crop of cruisers and let Usyk defend his title?

I'd like to see Usyk/ Breidis 2. Probably new fights. Cruiser is still pretty stacked.

I still didn’t think that fight was that close. I thought that Usyk clearly won and am not interested in a second fight.

Yea I thought Usyk won clear as well but it was definitely harder than the Gassiev fight. Breidis/ Gassiev or Dorticus might be fun.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
This is what I have been hearing so far. Excellent line up. No Lebedev again tho.
Andrew Tabiti/ Ruslan Fayfer.
Mairis Briedis/ Noel Gevor.
Yunier Dorticos/ Mateusz Masternak.
Krzysztof Glowacki/ Maksim Vlasov.

Some very good match ups there.
Andrew Tabiti/ Ruslan Fayfer and Krzysztof Glowacki/ Maksim Vlasov seem like even 50/50 fights to me.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Yea that Glowacki/Vlasov fight is the best match of the first round. Vlasov could be the dark horse.
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Tabiti-Fayfer and Glowacki-Vlasov should produce a serious threat to Briedis and Dorticos.
Not to impressed with Fayfer, but only seen highlights. Dorticos war with Gassiev could have left a mark.
To win the whole comp Tabiti is 6/1, Glowaki and Vlasov 8/1, Fayfer 25/1.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Don't see the point in this so soon after the last one.
We already know the best Cruiserweight which is the whole point of the tournament.
So whoever wins this can claim to be second or joint best?
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
I thought that as well, Smash, having a cruiser comp so soon after the other demeans the other a little as well as this one. However, the winner of this tournament, especially if it's a young gun, sets up a super fight with Uysk (or Bellew :D you never know).
The real reason is probably because Sauerland only ever works with big blokes (middleweight and above) as they rate/sell much better than smaller weights (there's no boxing below middle in Germany). Probably bottled it after the bantam and lightwelter haven't got much attention
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
It does establish a clear number 2,but that winner may head to heavy soon after as well.
There should be some good fights and at least 5/6 are top rated guys in the division.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
We could see another lineal (or Ring mag at the least) champion crowned after season 2 of the WBSS Cruiser tournament?
Tabiti/ Fayer are #2 and #3 in the IBF (which #1 vacant), so it would appear their fight could be an eliminator for the mandatory spot, or depending if Usyk has decided to move up, it could be for the vacant belt. Minimum, the winner becomes #1 with the IBF.
Briedis is the WBC #1, Gevor is their #14. Briedis wins, he remains WBC #1.
Vlasov is the WBO #1, Glowacki is their #2. That fight could be for the mandatory or an interim title. Minimum, the winner is #1 with the WBO.
The only problem (as usual lately) is the WBA. They already have Shumenov holding one of their belts, and Goulamirian holding their interim.
Briedis could remain #2 in the division (behind Usyk) if he advances to the finals and the winner of Glowacki/ Vlasov could arguably move to #3.
The seeding sets up these possible semi’s:
Briedis/ Gevor winner vs Glowacki/ Vlasov winner
Dorticus/ Masternak winner vs Fayfer/ Tabiti winner
If Usyk announces his intentions to move to heavy after the Bellew fight, the 1st semi there, could crown 2nd lineal champ.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Or the winner could fight Bellew should he win his next fight. :)

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
My ideal situation would be for Usyk to fight Bellew, then defend against Lebedev, then face off against the winner of season 2. If Briedis wins the 2nd season, then it's a well deserved rematch.
Don't see it happening that way tho, as the big money/ fights at heavy will be calling to Usyk.
Usyk seems like the decent type, I think if he plans to move to heavy (after Bellew) he will relinquish the titles so the others can get the opportunity.
Hearn/ DAZN will keep Usyk busy, so he may remain at cruiser for another few fights, while the heavyweight division sorts it sh-t out.

The heavyweight division will never sort itself out but I think you are right Usyk will probably move up. I am sure some of the heavyweights will fancy their chances against him being smaller and not a huge puncher. That will work in his favour until they realise he could be the real deal.
Anyway I think the heavyweight journey is more of an intriguing story than defending his title at cruiserweight.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
First fight is this weekend between unbeaten cruiserweights Andrew Tabiti and Ruslan Fayfer. Pretty even match-up on paper.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Breidis is old enough to be mikaelianS step father :S
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Breidis wins... close fight he could have lost that. Bj flores is convinced noel dominated. ... I think breidis darted better and ended the last two rounds better.
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Vlasov looks crap, his head is stuck out like a tortoise and looks like a sparko waiting to happen
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Vlasov lossen up a bit, throws enough punches to be awkward, however, Glowacki will surely spark him just focusing on throwing left hands straight down the pipe
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
Glowacki wins - 118-110, 117-110, 115-112
Vlasov is bloody awkward.
Briedis-Glowacki is a top matchup but won't be pleasing on the eye - too much holding.

I agree. BJ Flores commentary was ridiculously biased in favor of Noel Gevor.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
I didn’t score the Briedis fight round by round, but it seemed like a close fight. The commentators acted as if it was blatant robbery and fat Dan also thought so. I don’t find any of these people very reputable so I’m looking for peoples opinion on here.
I know I thought that Briedis easily won the 11th round and BJ Flores acted as if the other guy won the round. Same as the 12th. There were at least 2 other rounds I thought that Briedis won. There were a few rounds I thought the other guy won too, but I just wasn’t paying attention to my own scorecard.
So was I just way off that I thought that Briedis winning wasn’t a big deal or am I justified?

You are 100% justified.
Most people on twitter agree with you.
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
I wasn't paying attention, thought it was a mess, but BJ Flores acting like it was the robbery of the decade was embarrassing, Briedis was never dominated as he portrayed.
-
Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
The fight was pretty boring and sloppy to me. Briedis just didn’t seem to commit to his punches while the other guy just threw one punch at a time and didn’t land a ton. It looked to me like Briedis controlled the tempo a bit but was just very hesitant to throw real punches.

Re: WBSS Cruiserweight II
I had it 114-112 Mikaelian.
