Big fight you got wrong
I'm often a fence sitter so I'm not speaking of X could win. I mean X would win
I was confident Trinidad would beat DelaHoya. Watching it play out I was stunned at how easy Oscar made it. Couldn't foresee that at all.

Re: Big fight you got wrong
I was confident Felix would get him out of there as well. Was surprised when it didn't happen, then was disappointed there was never a rematch.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
I’ve definitely gotten fights totally wrong through the years but big fights? I’ll have to think more about it.
At the moment, the best I can think of is Jones vs Tarver 2. I thought that Jones just looked awful in their first fight and still won a decision. So naturally I thought that Jones would get back to his old self and destroy Tarver. Didn’t happen.

Re: Big fight you got wrong
Speaking of Tito, I picked Vargas to beat him, can still remember saying to these fellas I watched it with (strangers) Vargas has never been down in his life, not even in sparring... 30 seconds into the first round I stood there feeling like a right cunt (:D)
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
Mayweather Hatton. Yep he did that. Otherwise this may require a ICB style list ;D.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
Probably too many to name.
Since Hopkins and Tito have already been mentioned, I was positive Trinidad would do a number on B-Hop.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
Loads and loads, dating back many years if I gave it some thought. But the one that sticks out in recent memory is Wlad v Fury. Just could not see anything like that.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
I was utterly convinced that Mike Tyson would savage Buster Douglas within three rounds.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
Winky beating and schooling Tito.
Manny Pac beating Oscar
Floyd beating Oscar
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
I have never gotten any fight wrong.

Iaminuit saved my butt on PAC/Oscar. When Oscar was weighing 145 a week before the fight he shouted from the rooftops Oscar was cooked. Weighing less on fight night than he did at weigh in showed he was fried. Iaminuit was all over it in time to save me

He really knew his boxing, miss him around here, often wonder what happened to his puppies and hope he got a great send off.
I have gotten so many wrong it might be easier to pick the ones I got right ;D
Both Hatton fights, Mayweather and Pacman I got wrong but even after the Floyd KO never saw the Manny KO coming so early and brutally. Froch v Ward I though Froch might just be too undentable and tenacious even for a wily dog like Ward. Thought Bruno might have Ko'd Tyson, :-\ ( i was pretty young)
Could always see BJS and GGG's pedigree though even before they became household names, just hope they meet at some point so I have the chance to get that one wrong.

Re: Big fight you got wrong
Hmmm let's see here, I'm sure there are quite a few I've gotten wrong
Wlad-Sanders
Wlad-Fury
Wlad-Brewster
Lacy-Calzaghe
Cloud-Hopkins
RJJ-Tarver 2
RJJ-Johnson
Cotto-Pacquiao* ....I kind of don't count that one as much because Miguel flipped his shit and fired his trainer and ended up sans trainer for the build up to the fight and during the fight so meh
Cotto-Mayweather
Andy Lee-Brian Vera
Jermain Taylor-Kelly Pavlik
Cory Spinks-Ricardo Mayorga
Mosley-Mayweather
De la Hoya-Mayweather
Tyson-Lewis
hmmmm....I'm absolutely certain there are more.

Re: Big fight you got wrong
You had Tyson to beat Lewis?

I remember that I wanted Tyson to win, I forget if I actually picked him and judging by my join date (if that's correct) then I wouldn't have posted on it, but I also had Tyson beating McBride and Williams sooo go figure

Fair enough with the other 2 but over here most of the press knew Lennox was going to win because Tyson was smoking pot during his training camp.

These were early days in my beginning to follow boxing closely.

For the first round I thought he could actually do it and then the rest was history.

Well oh yeah anytime you start out seeing Tyson actually bobbing and weaving it hits that part of your brain where you remember just how dynamic of a fighter he was and then after that it was all "OOOOOOH yeah he's like 5'10 and once his head stops moving things aren't going to look so great"....tough bout to watch, but not as tough as others. What was tough was all the Tyson die hards even after losing to Lewis "Man if Mike gets back with Rooney man Mike would still be the boss of the division".......oh boy, those fellas were fun  and the old "Nobody beats Tyson in his prime!" and you'd ask "OK, when was his prime?" and the response was always either "Well when he was with Cus" or "Before he fired Rooney"....so for 3 years from 0-0-0 to 35-0-0 Tyson was utterly and completely unstoppable and unbeatable.....now sure at the time and vs who he fought, yeah completely the record shows it, but let's not be foolish here other fighters would take Tyson the distance or stop him in that time period had they been around, nobody is invincible. If Ray Robinson and Joe Louis can lose then so could Tyson.

Yes I am those ones that think a prime Tyson beats Lennox and Holyfield.

Out of 100 fights Tyson vs Lewis and 100 fights of Tyson vs Holyfield, a Prime Tyson might win 30-40 against the both of them at most. I think Tyson would be more competitive vs Lennox than Evander just because styles make fights and Evander had a chin that dynamite couldn't crack.

Tyson wins both 9 times out of 10 against Lennox and 7 out of 10 against Evander. :)

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. I really wish Tyson got to fight Bowe a couple times...how would you have seen that playing out (not to get the thread off topic)?

Tyson probably would have lost as he was past his prime. :)
Prime for prime, KO 2 round Tyson with a left hook.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
I'll probably get slaughtered for this, but in more recent years:
Loma vs Rigo
My thinking before the fight, was the Loma wasn't going to be able to turn him and get cracked with the left everytime he did.
But we all know what happened there.......

Re: Big fight you got wrong
I though Seth Mitchell was going to be the next great heavyweight until he met Banks.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
I picked Rafael Ruelas to ko Oscar :-X. To the tune of a few dollars and endless laughter.
-
Re: Big fight you got wrong
Barkley v Hearns.
Fury v Wlad.
I am sure there are many more .

I’m guilty of that one as well

I so much wanted him to be the next best thing but I later figured I fell for the TV hype and their promotion of him. Coupled with my desperate need to fall back in love with boxing after Tyson left.
