Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez to face Gennady Golovkin in rescheduled rematch on September 15

"I’m happy to inform that we have a fight September 15!!!! #CaneloGGG2," wrote promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who recently took to social media to announce that a deal has been reached for a highly-anticipated September 15 rematch beween multi-division world champion Canelo Alvarez and undefeated middleweigth champion Gennady Golovkin. The news comes just hours after Golovkin turned down what was thought to be a "final" 42.5% offer from Golden Boy Promotions.
Throughout the day, De La Hoya had been taunting Golovkin on social media, urging him to accept the offer before the alleged 12PM PT deadline. Just moments before the deadline, however, Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler, informed Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez that they would be declining the proposed 57.5-42.5 split. It was then that a supposed "Hail Mary" pitch was made and the two sides came to an agreement on terms that have not been disclosed. Regardless of how it came about, fans will be pleased to know that Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will meet at T-Mobile Arena on September 15 to determine the true king of the middleweight division.
I give zero fucks about this fight
Unbelievable that Alvarez' team seem to be dictating the deal ..... they are the challengers, coming off a robbery decision with a drug cheat. they have been messing Golovkin around, and also cost him millions already.
I really feel for GGG in this, and I hope he knocks Alvarez out cold.
57.5 - 42.5 ?? WTF......
Oh well..... I guess GGG "won" the battle of not settling for 60/40...... LMFAO.
So GBP threw another 2.5 in there while still ensuring that the real champion gets scraps.
Please nobody bore me with how many million that is. It's still a slap in the face to the true, NON-CHEATING champion.
But GGG accepted it.
Now he'd better dump Ginger Boy on his tainted ass to pay back some of that humiliation he's suffered at the negotiating table.
Would have liked to see GGG fight some of the other middleweights, he's been fighting to get to these types of purses, so it seemed obvious he was going to make this fight. I hope it works out for him.
I don’t fault GGG for following the money even though there were better fights for him. It is what it is. I will forgive him fully if he comes into this fight to knockout Canelo. I don’t want to see boxing. I want to see big shots thrown with the intention to put Canelo to sleep.
Not sure how they have the nerve to say this decided anything about the MW division. 2 years this division has been held up on this meaningless fight. Make that money while everyone else fights for the belts you won't defend against the superior fighters. F this, these two deserve each other. I hope after this GGG decides he finally wants to be a fighter but I expect him to retire.
Really having acid reflux just trying to worked up for anything that gives that cheating Chucky doll a decent payday. I'll believe it happens when we're closer ;D. And the cut to fractions is ridiculous, apparently Oscar and block head also play games with numbers not only for catchweights but purse cuts too. Little odd to turn down offer one final time only to come back with Oscar not needing to add to the pot? Still would have loved to see Golovkin go fingers up (2) to Oscar and immediately turn to some other top tier challengers. Almost has the feel of Golovkin knowing he's not long for the sport.
I think maybe that is the case. GGG is really a very old fighter and he is starting to look older in and out of the ring. His hair is definitely going and he doesn't look so baby faced anymore. He is perhaps similar to where Calzaghe was at 36 with his hair thinning somewhat too and looking a bit older. Maybe GGG can shine a couple more times. Who knows. Calzaghe had the sense to get out while at the top. Most fighters are not so clever. Canelo, as much as I dislike him, is unlikely to be blasted out of there. He is cagey and fights in spurts, GGG is likely going to need to go 12 hard rounds again and he knows if he gets sloppy the judges will likely go against him. It's not going to be easy. To hell with Canelo, I hope his eyebrows fall off.
GGG has "right" on his side, Canelo is the "bad guy" in this and the fight will be good.
Excellent fight and any other fighter in GGG position would have done the same.
I wonder how Billy Joe Saunders hamstring feels now?
What a complete fucking joke! how the fuck can this cunt and his clown outfit of a team even negotiate upcoming fights while he's fucking banned? so in reality, a 6 month ban is infact a 3 month ban , because he can do a 3 month camp to prepare for the minute his ban is up!
in other sports, when you're banned, you're not allowed even to train with your club . It's a meaningless fight anyway! 2 years ago it might've meant something, but there are other guys more relevant at the top of the division.
Canelo only fights twice a year so he wasn't really banned if you think about it.
Absolute fucking disgrace banning him for 6 months.
I wonder what the testing procedures are for this fight? I'm guessing the ginger hasn't being doing any random testing since he got caught so he's probably dosing now and will taper off before any testing arrangements are agreed for this fight. If they do manage to get him to agree to some kind of substantive testing it'll be interesting to see how he looks at the weigh in. I would guess he manages to avoid anything that might catch him and he turns up looking similar and we get a similar fight. Will Golovkin get robbed twice in a row? Maybe he gets the win and we get a trilogy. A draw isn't out of the question either.
So True Mr.X.
I wanted Canelo to win the first one and still stand by the fact he done the quality work.
Either way, the fact that GGG is the champion, undefeated and clean makes it insane that he is the B side.
This rematch must end in a knockout.
End this complete and utter cheat.
Interesting here that Sanchez confirms they had Saunders set up as a fallback for August. Rough way to treat Murray but it's business and I can see why.

Nah The Ring gave him a P4P belt, not the middleweight belt.
How the mighty have fallen, remember when the Ring belt was the only one ESPN and HBO would rave about. Let alone mention? Now Oscar gets to sell both for rematch.
I don’t know much about vada, any testing program, or how effective any of them are; but wouldn’t it be fun if Canelo looked like shit by comparison and lost badly;D
Gennady Golovkin: ‘If Mayweather went into the UFC it would be a different story’

HE may have the biggest fight of his life looming on September 15, the Canelo Alvarez rematch, but Gennady Golovkin has been on something of a good will tour. He appeared at the start of the World Cup and took in the latest UFC event.
Speaking to the media there, he mused on Conor McGregor’s foray into boxing, when he fought Floyd Mayweather last year.
“Everybody likes him,” Golovkin said of McGregor. “He’s a very good athlete, he’s a professional athlete. He’s a very good fighter. I remember last fight with Floyd. This guy he goes into boxing, seriously this is difficult for him and he looks good. If Mayweather went into UFC – different story.”
Golovkin’s attention of course is on the upcoming fight with his Mexican rival. “I’m very excited, a lot of people want to watch this second fight. I had good experience from the first fight. Right now I will change my performance a little bit. I know what I need for the second fight. Right now we have a different situation, completely different. Different emotions, different business deal, everything,” he said. “Different respect with him. For him, it’s not good for my side… Different mentality.
“Not respect, we’re both professional athletes. This is fight.”
Golovkin hopes that Alvarez will stand and trade in the rematch. “I believe he’s talked too much [about fighting differently], if he fights like that, it’s good for fans,” he said. “Right now I’m very happy because I have a fight September 15… It’s huge for us.
“First of all this is the biggest fight in boxing. I’m very excited for this fight.”

He himself promises to be more clinical and expects a fair decision from the judges, after their first fight was controversially ruled a draw. “I believe this time more professional. More professional from judges. More professional for us,” he said.
But even Golovkin hinted at an element of doubt. “Nobody knows, this is boxing. Everybody has chance and nobody knows who will win,” he said. “Right now it’s a very interesting and very dangerous question for us.”

So Roach is picking Ginger.
Freddie knows a lot about boxing, but he's wrong on this one. Ginger without his Clenbuterol-laced physique and lots of extra pounds on his frame is going to be easy pickings for GGG. That is....... if GGG learned his lesson and doesn't leave the decision in the corrupt hands of the bought judges. GGG is older now, and I'm sure that's what Team Ginger is banking on. Never has Ginger faced a high-profile fighter both at his peak and at the same size. There's always some f*cking advantage involved. That's the shady part about this dude I can't stomach. I like equal size fighters fighting under equal conditions. That's why I favor re-hydration clauses to be instituted in boxing. If that had been in place years ago, guys like Ginger and JCC Jr would've been nobodies.
Can't wait till 9/15 when GGG rips Ginger a new one.
With the experience, precision, and careful planning these guys are used to (and their teams), it's not a stretch to ask them to be ready for same-day weigh-ins. If you can aim for the day before, you can certainly aim for the same day. These guys are professionals. The day before weigh-in just gives you wiggle room to re-hydrate up by as much as 20-25 pounds. How fair is that? All the excuses I've ever heard are just that...... excuses.
I think the real issue with weigh ins the day before is merely that it makes PED use even more rampant. It’s no coincidence that fighters seen to have taken the most advantage in recent memory have in fact been caught using diuretics... If you had comprehensive testing then it wouldn’t have to be such an issue, could even be something fighters negotiate on etc. Some guys naturally can shift weight more than others, obviously more so young guys, but that’s just yet another reason boxing is generally a young mans sport. There can be huge drawbacks to doing so as well, so weighing in the day before, in itself, doesn’t really upset the playing field imo.
Canelo can't catch a break with some.
Canelo Alvarez to change approach in Gennady Golovkin rematch

Canelo Alvarez believes he needs to be more aggressive to beat Gennady Golovkin in their rematch on September 15. Golovkin and Alvarez clash for a second time in Las Vegas after a controversial draw in their first encounter almost a year ago. Alvarez comes into the contest under pressure to perform after testing positive for Clenbuterol and serving a six-month suspension.
Fight fans were relieved to learn the middleweights had managed to re-schedule the second fight and Alvarez expects to convincingly win the rematch. ‘Whatever it takes, I have to do something different in this fight to win convincingly,’ Canelo told Fighthub. ‘I was in good shape but I needed a little more to throw more punches.’
https://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com...size=540%2C360
He added: ‘The first fight showed me what I need to do in order to win this rematch convincingly, even though I [still think] I won the first fight,’ he said. ‘I knew he was a fighter that could take a lot of punches. He can take a lot of punches upstairs. I simply thought to keep fighting my fight.’ The ban forced the cancellation of the original rematch date in May and sparked a furious reaction from Golovkin who accused Alvarez of taking banned substances before their first meeting.
Alvarez has denied he intentionally ingested Clenbuterol, insisting the positive tests were caused by eating contaminated meat in Mexico. The former world champion revealed he no longer eats meat, but will not be making changes to his team despite the controversy. Golovkin vs Alvarez II is tipped to be one of the most exciting fights of the year, with the winner able to call himself the king of the middleweights.
