12 Boys, Soccer Coach Are Found Alive in Thailand Cave 9 Days After Becoming Trapped
https://ktla.com/2018/07/02/12-boys-...ntense-search/
Rescue teams have found all 12 boys and their soccer coach alive in a cave in Thailand nine days after the group went missing, according to a high-ranking person involved in the search and rescue operation.
The boys, who range in ages from 11 to 16 years old and are all members of the Wild Boar soccer team, entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system on Saturday, June 23, for a team outing, but became stranded in the dark tunnels by a sudden and continuous downpour.
The international rescue operation -- which includes the Thai Navy SEALs as well as experts from the US, China, Australia and the UK -- had been working to reach a large, deep chamber, informally named Pattaya Beach, where they believed the missing boys had taken refuge.
"I confirm they are all safe," Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osatanakorn told reporters on Monday night.
That my friends is a scary situation, but hey everybody is A-OK (we continue to hope) and hopefully they are freed from the cave very soon!

Re: Who has good news? The Good News thread does that's who!
Nice elkabonger. I knew the seals were involved but I didn’t read prior it was such an international thing. I had some very good news, my significant other had some tests done and had some results that lead one doctor to say a serious prob may exist. Further testing revealed one of the docs had made an improper “reading” of the results and everything is 100p A-ok. I can’t tell you how happy I was, so happy I forgive the original doc for screwing up whatever he did.

Sometimes heroes do wear capes: Heroic golden retriever puppy is left with a very swollen snout after jumping between his owner and a rattlesnake in Arizona, saving her from being bitten and taking the hit himself
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5907209/Heroic-golden-
retriever-bit-face-rattlesnake-protecting-owner-Arizona.html
A dog has been hailed a hero for saving his owner from a rattlesnake, taking a nasty bite to the face in the process.
The golden retriever named Todd was on a hike with his owner Paula Goodwin in Anthem, Arizona, on Friday when the pair came across a rattlesnake.
Just as Goodwin was about to unknowingly step on the snake, Todd spotted it and jumped in front of his owner's leg.
Unfortunately his heroism did was not without consequences as the rattler bit him in the face, causing his cheek to swell dramatically.
Goodwin posted photos of the recovering retriever on her Facebook with the caption: 'My hero of a puppy Todd saved me.'
FUCKIN A! Good boy Todd the puppy :thumb:
Just a little info here, Todd the puppy is expected to make a full recovery and has been given the prestigious honor of being rated 15 out of 10 on 'We Rate Dogs' Twitter who called him "a true fucking hero"....very good boy Todd!

Can't think of much worse than being buried alive. I just heard it was two British cavers who found them three days after specially being flown in. Thai's are not big into caving and all that lark then.

The kids will be trapped for months and need to be trained how to cave dive before getting out. Mental. Utterly mental world. Thankfully they're asains so will obviously ace the tests.

I would also think that their being tiny would help them out.
The events due remind me of this movie though
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaZHjv3ASfw
....I've seen it, it's so-so. It was based on similar events, but of course James Cameron took a whole bunch of dramatic liberty with it. Nobody died in the real life story.

Re: Who has good news? The Good News thread does that's who!
Rhinoceroses are a species I'd like to see in the wild....massive animals, them and elephants are basically the mammalian version of a dinosaur just gigantic, fleet afoot, massive strength...very impressive. Luckily White Rhinos are Not Threatened, the Indian Rhino is Vulnerable, however, Sumatran, Javan, and Black Rhinos are Critically Endangered.
Seeing animals in the wild, in their element....it's just the best thing ever, you feel graced by their presence...now i can only say that for bears, snakes, deer, bobcats, coyotes, alligators, hawks, eagles, etc...but still when you see an animal out doing it's thing there's not much better. The majority of the time I'm hunting I'm noticing OTHER animals than what I'm hunting for. Hell even when I caught that groundhog yesterday I took my time looking the animal over up close in the trap.
I've started thinking of planning trips out to various locals for the express purpose of seeing wildlife. I'd love to see bears, moose, elk, caribou, antelope, bison, and big horn sheep....oh seeing the head butting of big horn sheep live in person would be epic....granted I'm sure it's dangerous as they live in/on/around mountains, and if one of those sheep wants to knock noggins with you then you're going to be SOL because either you'll be killed by the impact (they hit that hard) or you'll fall off the side of a mountain in the middle of fucking nowhere. But hell seeing bears would be dangerous as well and I sure as shit don't want to go out the way "Grizzly Man" and his girlfriend did.
Seeing alligators in the wild is pretty fucking cool. They look so calm and relaxed even when they are swimming at a good clip...very graceful in the water.

Re: Who has good news? The Good News thread does that's who!
Rhinoceroses have very poor eyesight.
Impressive big mammals would be whales which were originally dog like animals.

How able-ist of you talking down about those with less than perfect eyesight. (imagine if a Rhino was given lasik surgery LOL....."My God, all this time I was charging at blurry objects....I can demolish things and actually appreciate the destruction I've caused now!" )
What you don't think Rhino's are impressive? A male White Rhino can weigh upwards of 5,000 pounds...that's a big fucking animal, it's larger than most cars you've seen.

I wasn't having a go I was questioning if you did or did not think Rhinos were impressive....that's typically the issue when someone has a problem with my post it's 99.99999999999% of the time they cannot discern the tone in which I'm communicating. It was damn near the entire problem with TitoFan and myself when we were at eat other's throats....and I'm not just blaming you for it, I do it a lot of times too which is why some of my responses can be rather curt.
And this is why when I really don't get on with someone I tend to attempt to ask them questions so I can better understand what they mean and how I am supposed to read their future posts, you know, in what tone and all.
It's all good @Master :thumb:

Hippos scare me. Not that I ever ran into one but they are vicious, claim miles as their territory and have attacked and mauled many humans. They will grab you with that massive mouth chew you up and drown you in the river. I much prefer my cat.

Hippos kill more people than lions do...they are fast as hell too!
I do quite enjoy seeing animals that massive charge at someone (preferable not me) but it's just crazy to see something so big move so fast.

The closest living relatives of the Hippopotamidae are whales and dolphins from which they diverged from.

Re: Who has good news? The Good News thread does that's who!
So back on the Thai soccer team, apparently they are all still ok but they are going to be in that cave for perhaps MONTHS....a Thai Navy SEAL (who knew they had SEALs :dontknow: ) sadly died in attempting to help those poor lads out. It's the rainy season (fucking who has a rainy SEASON...in America seasons mean changes in temperature not precipitation) so the rescuers are battling rain AND still pumping out millions of gallons of water...in the meantime they are looking for any chimneys which might make extraction easier.
Crazy stuff....it really would suck to be stuck in a cave and have underwater cave diving be your only way out and in less than ideal conditions X should give us a run down of what those divers might be experiencing.
