ESPN Prograis v Velasco

This will kick off on 'regular' ESPN in about 3 hrs. Hometown 21-0 Regis "Rougarou" Prograis takes his shot at the interim wbc 140 strap vs Argentinian Juan Jose Velasco 20-0 in the main event. Prograis is finding his stride and exudes confidence with plans to make 140 'his house'. Great to actually have New Orleans back on a boxing stage and if not for working like a dag today and just getting home I might have piled in the car hoping for a ticket ;D. Cannot remember the last time they had a card at UNO


Young gun Teofimo Lopez 9-0 fights Brazilian William Silva 25-1 lightweights. Should be co main but not how much of card will be used for live Manny v Matthysse card following. Solid night of action and it's about time!

Boxing is starting here in Germany very soon.

Good step for Teofimo in only his 10th start. Silva not shy early on and touches him a couple times.

Well so much for that ;D, on the spot left hook puts Silva on his arse. Silva with straight right as Lopez comes in???.

Really hope Teofimo doesn't turn into a hotdog act. Dude just hoped in the air and attempted another hook. wtf was that :-X. Lopez backed to ropes here and again Silva getting some in.

Telling you Lopez not hard to hit. Starts jab from waist and gets stuffed with Silva right hand. Good scrap over 3 Lopez in control but he needs to tighten up a bit. Guy is launching wide hooks like Wilder ;D.

Silva taking an absolute battering all 6th and goes down in corner. Up and woozy on stool. Lopez ready to mash the gas. Very solid left hooks to body

That's a corny mo fo man. Silva down again writhing on canvas in 6th fight over...Lopez does his theatrical home run hit and runs around entire ring. Oh and a backflip.

We do not have this fight over here. The Manny fight card starts in 11/2 hours.

Damn man. Manny didn't even call or reach out when mother of Roach died:-X. That's kinda cold. Prograis should be soon. They are pouring on the Manny build up. Yet to see even a pic of Matthysse.

Prograis into the ring with Mardi Gras Indians ;D. This should be a shoot out. Velasco bit of an unknown but they make them hard in Argentina last time I checked. Big crowd at UNO, like that!

Velasco not a stationary target and catches Prograis with 1-2. Rally by Prograis near end and backs Velasco. Still though gotta go round to the underdog Velasco.

Better concentrated pressure second half on 2nd and rips body. Velasco still clipping him while moving away but not much on them. 1-1

argie looks better tha i expected, prog looks much heavier hitter when they exchange though

Some slippery stand in defense by Prograis as Velasco lets go with two hands. They say he doesn't like to wear headgear while sparring???. That can't be smart. Prograis closer and closer but a short jab would set so much up and keep Velasco still. 2-1 Prograis

Southpaw left now on point from Prograis. Goes hard to head and body with Velasco covering up more and hurt end of 4th. Kid has many angles on his punches. 3-1

Ohh that hurt. Velasco dropped in a huge heap and rolling from body shots! And he gets up..tough one. Prograis smells it in the water looking for the finish. Velasco survives round

Crawford sitting ringside looking like a full middleweight ;D. Prograis full control let Velasco off a bit in 6th. Seems the door is there to be shut but Prograis putting on a beat up.

Oh another brutal left hook to gut drops him! Massive shot..but he's up. Damn

Velasco trying to get out of it, corner tearing him for it "what do you mean you can't go". Velasco all but done coming out

Body shots, down again and spits mouth piece...buuut he gets up! Kid has grapefruits but he is being battered!

Lawrence Cole calls crumple down a 'slip'. Dummy. This guy wants out and corner and ref want him torn up. Corner finally steps on apron and waves it off 8th round just as Velasco goes down falling backwards again. Solid solid body work by Prograis.

Prog was "lucky" Vel couldn't punch, or maybe that was the reason he took so many (wasn't bothered).

The WSS is going to be excellent - Josh Taylor doesn't have much to worry about.

Prior to this fight I felt Prograis was the guy to beat by a slight edge over Taylor.

Now I think Taylor wins this comfortably. And I'm a Rougarou fan.

Off the Postol fight I'd favor Taylor also. But a clear domination for Prograis last night is certainly not a step backwards. I am concerned about the way he gives up defense, not to mention spars at times minus headgear..who does that???. Bad habits stick with you. His body work though is some of the best going at 140. Be a helluva scrap and really look forward to it.

Yea Taylor seems much tighter all round. Prograis catches a few too many clean shots, they catch up to you eventually. A clash between the 2 could feature some of the best body punching in recent years.
