Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Damn. I almost missed the fight I really wanted to see tonight. For some reason I thought it was going to be televised on the same channel as the Garcia-Easter fight. But fortunately found it on Univision. Which is just as well..... because I don't have ESPN+ where they're also televising it.
Gonna enjoy this one. ;D

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Another espn+ offering from Arum, missing it. Currently my Univision from Cox has some Spanish soap opera on. I thought I walked into a SNL skit at first ;D. Thanks for heads up!

-
Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Ito took the 8th. Diaz landed a big shot, to show he is still there but not doing enough.
Diaz swelling up under the left eye.

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Diaz needs a knock out. But he might get knocked out going for it

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
I haven't given Diaz four rounds. Not scoring it but maybe three. Last round.
-
Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Ito took that round. He looks the fresher fighter.
-
Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Clash of heads pauses the action at the 2 minute mark. Diaz gets the worst of it.
Heads come together again with a minute left.
Diaz' eye almost closed,.
Both guys throwing to the bell.
Ito takes the 11th.
-
Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Good. Happy for Ito. He earned it. He's been a very good, underrated fighter. I give Diaz credit for getting up and fighting back the whole fight. But I was disappointed in his performance. He's better than Verdejo. But not by much.

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Someone better check on Tito :p

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
I was watching on delay, as I had to record it when I got interrupted. Saw the whole fight and obviously I'm disappointed. But what a HELL of a fight!!! My hat's off to Ito..... I underestimated him. He's a hell of a fighter. Still..... I'm PROUD of my guy. He went down swinging and never stopped trying. I think maybe the difference in reach made a big difference. Ito fought a lot better than Diaz on the inside as well. They're both super tough. Diaz nailed him many times flush, but Ito can sure take a punch.
All credit to Ito, the new champion.

I think we all underestimated Ito, except Fenster. Great pick by him.
Diaz has a bit to work on but both guys increased their status with this fight.

Yeah, being objective about it, he needs to work on his defense. He's got a ton of heart, though. It happens sometimes. You run into someone who's running under the radar, and you get surprised.
I wouldn't count Diaz out of any future fights, though.

Ito really should of been undefeated going in. His one loss is very debatable. I considered the fight to be 50-50 going in. With me leaning towards Diaz if I really had to make a choice. But I'm glad Ito came to the US to pick up his first championship

Japanese fighters are always underrated yet their domestic scene is so strong, anyone who wins at title level out there must be handy, that's my rule of thumb.
And it's fairest place in the world for travelling fighters yet most fans/fighters/pundits arrogantly assume their winners are all protected homers.

Re: Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz vs. Masayuki Ito on Univision
Ito has been on my radar for awhile, I also thought his loss was debatable. In saying that, his opposition hasn't been outstanding. Their records were similar coming in. I thought it would be a competitive fight. I also thought Ito had moved to 135 and wasn't sure how getting back to 130 would affect him. Some good fights to be made at 130. Some of these belt holders need to start fighting each other.
