Any fan who thinks they're paying for a competitive matchup between a hot prospect and professional loser/journeyman is an idiot. And if new to the sport will quickly learn how it works.
These fights happen every single week on every single show all over the world. Every single one of your heroes have records built exactly the same way, full of fighters paid to lose. It's not cheating or conning it's about self-preservation and doing a job. The promoter, prospect and pro-loser all benefit from padding records.
Boxing is the easiest sport in the world to fix (as proven by history). Anybody throwing a fight for serious financial gain would never make it so obvious, plus there's a money trail which can be easily traced in this day and age. And certain commissions (the good ones) all over the world suspend guys for non-efforts like this all the time, it doesn't go unnoticed. As Grey said, he just cost himself a few quid by wimping out before he earnt his dosh.
Oh ok you got hung up on the word "competitive". Figures.
Let's just say then that fans expect the opponent to throw meaningful punches, and stay there for a legitimate conclusion.

Fan A: Knew going in that Kostya's son was going to win, but wanted to see just how dominant he'd look. Expected the other guy to at least put up a fight.
Fan B: Clueless about the fighters and thought it would be competitive.

Still.... Fan A paid good money and has a right to be outraged. Or is he an idiot also?
Let's not lose sight of the fact that Kostya's opponent went down from a missed punch.
When the fight is a complete mismatch, where one of the fighter has no right to be in the ring with the opponent, then what do fight fans expect? The over-matched fighter to fight bravely and risk injury for the $200 he is getting paid? Its up to the promoter to find fighters who can challenge his prospect, not fly in the cheapest binman he can find.Quote:

Tszyu's opponent had a 27-15-1 record coming into the fight. Atrocious, I know.... but by no means the worst record in the history of professional boxing. He was ranked 2nd among Indonesian super welters (never mind it's out of 12). He had beaten 2 out of his last 3 opponents via KO. What on Earth was supposed to tell fans "Pssst.... don't pay for this fight. Stevie's gonna take a dive from a missed punch." The guy was overmatched, so what. He wasn't the first, and he certainly won't be the last. But fighters who accept payment to step into a ring know what they're getting into.
Yes, the promoter's at fault. But stop blaming the fans who paid to see a fight. I won't use "competitive" as to not ruffle any feathers. But a FIGHT. The definition of which is two guys in the middle of a boxing ring exchanging punches. Stevie went down from a swing and a miss. He took a dive. Not only should he get suspended. The promoter should get docked any money he made as a result, and the fans should get their money back. That'll hopefully discourage future repeats of this type of sham.
