Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Let's hope he goes straight for the KO and is true to his word.
On a media conference call, Joshua stated: “I’ve just gotta focus on Povektin, go in there and have fun, don’t be cautious because it’s ruining my aggressive style.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Well IF Povetkin is fully prepared for the fight that COULD end up coming back to bite AJ in the ass.
I don't expect AJ will have trouble since Povetkin is older and slower, but dude can still punch even if he isn't on the juice and his fighting from a crouch could draw AJ in and off balance....that is what Povetkin needs. AJ overreaching, AJ getting in too close and then attempting to back straight up instead of circling out.
I think AJ will win, but if an upset happened I wouldn't be terribly shocked.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Little Tony Joshua the squared up stiff mannequin in a department store so rigid and so stiff and so mechanical quite like a Frank Bruno or Michael Grant.
little Tony thinks it's good to fight a 38 year-old hahaha this is really funny little Tony

Fuck off with your Anti Joshua posting and stop posting the same shit as you've done in other AJ threads.
We get you don't rate him but your becoming boring now yeah.

Yup wouldn't be so bad but every post he makes tends to be in Brocklish, it wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't just obsessively trolling.

You do both realise that you’re biting on a guy who thinks Tyson Fury is a big KO Merchant ?;D;D;D

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
I'd say Povetkin at this stage still KOs Wilder. I think this is AJ's toughest fight since Wlad.
Brick just bringing down the main board with his usual bs, contradicting himself left, right and centre.
Maybe we should treat him like the WBA and all ignore him.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
I think Joshua is robotic too. Put him in there with someone awkward and can punch and keep punching and he is in deep waters. He is fine when it is measured and orthodox, it makes him look in control.
Boxers say a lot of things. Thing is if he can just turn on and off this 'aggressive' style then why turn it off for an entire year? He will do what he can to try and win the fight and I can't blame him. You get reckless and you will likely get caught, so I get it. I think he fights the way he does for a reason. He is hardly Joe Calzaghe.

I don't think anyone is comparing AJ to a young Cassius. He is fighting solid opposition and winning.
Sure we want to see big fights but he often do they come off when fans want them to?
I hope we get to see them all fight each other.
Anyone brave enough to say where they rate Povetkin heading into this fight?
I have him at #3.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
True, few can be like Calzaghe or Ali or Tyson. This is where I consider Joshua just a solid professional in a very weak division. He is very steady, but I was actually not impressed with his performance against Wlad. Nobody should be struggling with a 41 year old coming back off a long lay off and a performance where he couldn't land anything. The spin is that Wlad was somehow inspired, but I think it more showed that Joshua is limited. Fury, though boring, did it with far less bother.

I think most fans accept that AJ is flawed/ limited (outside of AJ fan boys obviously).
Personally I think the Wlad the fought AJ, beats the Fury he fought. And if he came back now, I'd pick him to beat both Fury and Wilder. I would have picked Wlad in a rematch with AJ if he had enforced it at the time. But right now I think AJ is the only one that would beat a come-backing Wlad right now. So I disagree that no one should be struggling with a 41 year old coming back off a long layoff, as Wlad is now 42 and everyone in the top 10 would still struggle with him.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
I rate Povetkin no.1
There's gonna be a million idiots saying "I told you Joshua was a bum hype job" when Povetkin irons him out.

Damn, you have him above both AJ and Wilder?
Thanks for posting your rating of Povetkin.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Well technically i'd make AJ no.1 considering his victory over Wlad, however, Povetkin is no.2, Fury no.3, Whyte no.4 and Wilder 5.

OK so that's 2 of us that consider him in the top 3. I'd have Fury lower, but the main guys are there.
The Ring are not recognising this 1 vs 3 fight as for the title.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
AJ might make the mistake of feeling the pressure of 2 back to back fights where he hasn't looked good and play right into Povetkins hands getting suckered into a phone box fight.
To be honest if he can't beat an ageing and steroid free Povetkin then he's not what we thought he was.
I personally think AJ is gonna absolutely destroy Povetkin inside 6 rounds by a Brutal KO.
He'll be seriously pissed off about his range rover still 👊🏻😎

Rule number 1 promise nothing. Stop trying to be everything to everyone. And if you have to bring back an aggressive 'style' because the talk is getting to you..don't! Great way to get knocked out and wake up on your face. Keep your head, do your work.

He could just be baiting Povetkin into something as well, but who knows? I don't like it when fighters lay their strategies out for all to see or even SEEM to do so. I guess they feel as though they owe the press some comment and you want the fans to be interested in the fight but to what point?
I think Povetkin will give a good account of himself, I suspect AJ will win by KO but anything could happen especially since AJ is a young champion who has never lost, you never know how having the titles can change someone over time it's a big responsibility and trying just to appease your fans is a good way to lose everything.

I think AJ is faking this going back to a more aggressive style. AJ is sensible and he has the height, reach and weight advantage. He will use it early on and if he sees an opening in Povetkin mid way through the fight he will take it otherwise, he will accept a comfortable UD.

Landing the uppercut is the key to success for him because of Povetkin's style, however....then it's Povetkin's left hook vs AJ's uppercut which is faster?

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
If you’ve listened to the interview it’s one lie after another. Verifiable undeniable bold faced lies. Like saying Wilder had never called him out until after Takam, bold faced lie. He even responded to Wilder calling him out long before that telling him to ha e patience. What, we are supposed to believe he forgot that? Get the .... out of here with that nonsense. I started to write down all the lies in the interview but I don’t have the time because it’s one after another. I see no reason to believe this after listening to the rest.
I left room to get back on the AJ bandwagon if he just made the right fights but listening to this interview has ended any opportunity for me. The dude is completely FOS. He lies constantly. He is the ..... all these heavies keep saying he is. Great fighter, complete .....

Ron, your jotted down notes are greatly appreciated, don't let them off the hook mate.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
I'm fully expecting another safety first AJ I think that he will be all to aware of what a defeat on his record will do to his potential future earnings.
The UK Sky boxing fans are a fickle lot, they will lap it up whilst he has his 0 but as soon as that is gone so are the crowds.
I don't agree with it but that's the way it is, even if the crowds still turn out for him after a loss the hype won't be there.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Crowds?
Wembley still hasn't sold out yet 😉

Wow that's a great analysis.
Wow.
I think mine was better though and I think that Little Tony is a hype job, fighting 39 year olds and oh wait a 41 year old fighter before that.
Meanwhile Deontay Wilder is fighting a giant of a man in the absolute prime of his career in Tyson Fury.
So who's the pussy?

People use the word trolling too much to describe when people criticize a topic. I am criticizing Anthony Joshua. I believe he is overhyped. I believe he is no different than a Frank Bruno or a Michael Grant. I believe two out of his last three opponents well over the hill in Wladimir Klitschko and now this thirty-nine-year-old povetkin. I believe he is a managed and pampered fighter and will not make it outside of his little circle. I just call it criticizing
I'll give you this however: I am such an avid and rabid boxing fan that I should have kept that type of criticism to a one shot deal. I probably have mentioned it too many times so for my redundancy I will agree with you, I should have kept my one vicious and rabbit criticism of Anthony Joshua 2 a minimum and not gone so vehemently into multiple criticisms
I will not criticize Anthony Joshua anymore

Rabid criticism brockton......rabid....rabbit criticism would only be used if Anthony Joshua was stealing the lettuce and carrots out of my garden.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Lyle, good points but now that I think about it you better let Little Tony the Rabbit take as many tomatoes and as much lettuce out of your garden as he can,the little Peter Cottontail, because when Florence comes in that place could be a-swimmin

There is nothing wrong with criticizing a fighter but you are literally fucking spamming the place at the moment and just repeating yourself over and over again, we get it you don't like 'little Tony Joshua' you think he is robotic, you think he is like Bruno, you think Klit was over the hill, you think Wilder will kill him, we get it...and not you think he is a fucking rabbit for some reason which is pretty funny (we all know your brain works in mysterious ways) but you don't need to repeat that 8 times on the next page.
put forward an argument, get into a debate, don't just fucking spam the place, it smacks of Denilson style desperation, keep the spamming to off topic.
-
Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
I'm glad you are the judge of what's spamming or trolling is because I don't think that's what I'm doing. Just get on with your posting man and post whatever you want I don't tell you what to post I wouldn't care if you posted the same thing 10 times in a row

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Tyson in the prime of his life? GTFO, he wasted that, turned into a fat, drugged out, depressed slob, and retired rather than face his doping ban.
We really don't know what he had left at this stage, it's great he's getting the weight down but it's debatable if Tyson should even be considered a top 10 heavy at this stage.
If Wilder or Tyson were set to face Povetkin next, it would be considered a huge risk for both of them. As Fenster and myself have mentioned, we both consider Povetkin a current top 3 heavyweight. If AJ should lose, there's no shame in losing to another top contender, but if he wins he deserves the same credit for defeating a top contender. His 2nd straight top 10 contender in a row. No one else has been brave enough to post where they currently rate Povetkin.

Have to bud it just sticks out...weren't you just comparing Deontay Wilder to Michael Grant a couple of weeks ago until we agreed he was a more complete fighter with stiffer comp ;D. Poor ol Grant doesn't even realize the legacy he has left.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
Worth remembering of course that at a certain level, it's hard work knocking over someone that doesn't want to be knocked over. Compound that with a couple of great chins and anyone would struggle. Despite a few brief glimpses of aggression, Takam and Parker didn't want to fight.
Provided he gets the W the Povetkin fight is win win for Joshua. He either chins Povetkin in which case he's a monster again. Or, he controls him in a snoozer, beats his chest roaring "SCIENCE" and waits a few years to be called a genius like Lewis was for staying 10 feet away from Tua at all times.

Re: Anthony Joshua promises to bring back aggressive style against Alexander Povetkin
I would rank povetkin at number five just now. I have followed his career for some time and he's one of my favourites but I think the last few fights(hammer, price and rudenko) he is looking less vicious and a bit slower which would make sense and he is 39 soon :S... I'd rank joshua Wilder whyte and fury ahead of povetkin, not on boxing skills but more due to their youth and height advantages... Povetkins never really been that hard to hit either so I think this older version will not have a good time with joshua and I would tip Wilders to KO him too. Fury is just too tall and older povetkin would be smothered to a wide decision.. Povetkin would have a chance to beat anybody though, he had a great amateur career and is still at the top of the pros after all these years.
