Walrus and Brock? That one and Gandalf and Beanz have been pretty wild.
I wish him good luck on his paratrooping and I suggested he can get a GoPro to film The Thing and he told me to go to hell.
I have mentioned two or three times over the past 30 days that I have very fond memories of the two times we went out and we had good times together and lots of laughs and that he is a good guy and he told me that I am a despicable person
I mentioned on the public board this week that we were only victims of misunderstandings and how you cannot get the tone or the full meaning when you are just doing texting 4 months and months you can't tell when somebody is serious or just joking or a little bit of both. I think I have been pretty fair in all of these assessments
I then started a thread about The Melancholy of life and he tried to be really on the public board saying I am a terrible person inside and a spiteful and mean and nasty human being who deserves all of the emptiness that I am feeling and that you reap what you sow
And all that coming from a Christian a Roman Catholic no less
Gandalf I think we will have to put that last suggestion on hold for a while
My belief is that all too many Christians are in it for themselves anyway. They are scared of dying. They use it as a shield for their wrong doing. They fail to see that Jesus was just a peasant who wanted a Kingdom here on Earth. To shake off empire and corrupt temples. A Jewish man with a Jewish God who wanted a Jewish homeland. For them to buy into corrupt empire and newer corrupt temples is so not the way of Jesus. That is the real blasphemy.
100% truth but try telling that to a Muslim or a Buddhist for a Christian they are sucking on their pacifier like a three-week-old infant sucks on a pacifier and there's sucking on that thing so hard with drool running down their chin and their eyes screwed up in their heads that they cannot imagine letting go of that pacifier
Can you imagine these other gullible idiots who are born into a family for example a Muslim family and the parents simply hand the kid the poor innocent naive kid a book from God and they say this is the book from God and you better read it and you better believe in it because it's our whole family tradition going back Generations. And the stupid idiot just takes the book and reads it and believes it
The same goes for Christians and Hindus and Buddhists and everybody else. They just swallow the whole thing Hook Line & Sinker then when you try to talk to them about it it's like trying to pull a pacifier away from a drooling infant saliva running down his chin
You guys are both brave men. Your testimony will help others to come forward
It is the truth Walrus. Jesus was a human being who helped others, rejected materialism, and rejected occupation by Empire and corruption by a base religion. Do you really think Jesus would have been into the opulence of the Catholic Church considering he was the man that said if you have two coats then give the man with no coat one of them? He wanted to be a peasant king, to rule a socialist land where the rich are stripped of what they have and the poor be given a chance instead. This is why it is so funny that so many US Christians are on the right giving money to churches that have far too much money which are then given special status by corrupt governments. This is the opposite of what the message was. Challenging that resulted in his humanly death.
Show me just one piece of evidence to suggest otherwise. Show me one single person who can prove the existence of heaven. Show me one person who can prove the existence of an omnipotent God made in mans image. Show me one person who can prove Jesus returned from the dead. It's The Lord of the Rings style inversion of history. Show me one person who can say Jesus supported Empire and the corrupt Temple. The man was a socialist freedom fighter and as far as I am concerned that is pretty fucking cool on its own terms without the embellishments provided decades later to appease the Romans who had burned Israel to a crisp. He was given to the Romans and the Romans put him in the cross and he died the same as many other messiahs and people the authorities did not like. Is it so bad to actually believe in Jesus without all the bells and whistles on top. I am comfortable with my death and Jesus was too. That's how we should be living, like we are dead already. This is the closest to heaven we get.
Did u ever notice u guys who don’t believe talk about religion much more than I or anyone here who does believe? I always wonder why that is.
And Jesus might well have believed in a God too, but it would have been the Jewish God. In those times all you had was myth and folklore he got his mostly from John the Baptist. His earthly ambitions were earthly ambitions and no omnipotent being came down and saved him. He died like any other man. Like you or I or anyone else. There's nothing so bad about dying. The thing that made Jesus different is that he took on the system. Most do not have that kind of courage.
I am interested in the life of human beings who lived their lives and I have no doubt that Jesus existed. I find it interesting when people are willing to die for what they believe in. I also think a lot of his values were decent ones. It also makes it even more curious when generations later the story becomes mythologized and people internalize it as a guide to life by absorbing the supernatural over what in reality was a little bit different. Jesus was taking on the Temple and the Roman Empire, he was a revolutionary. That's something that gets played down a lot and I find that very interesting.
As you can tell I am not mocking Jesus at all, I think the message was an interesting one. Resist occupation and help those around you. However, it is also a very dangerous message. He was a man of 2000 years ago and likely thought his God, his Jewish old Testament God, would intercede and do something dramatic, but he did nothing of the sort. If only Jesus had a copy of The God Delusion and rifle technology. It could have been different.
It's a great story.
Ya it’s interesting I just don’t spend a lot of time speaking on it here. I believe but I’m not out to convert anyone, it’s not my thing. Do as u wish I just find it strange when the anti religious spend so much time talking about religion
My reading lately has been about the life of Jesus as it appears to have been and that is before Christianity even existed. Jesus wasn't even a Christian. He was a Jew fighting for his country and appeared to be telling people to share rather than bow down to a system of taxation and occupation. If people really took that message to heart then we would be living in a different kind of world. The money lenders have won. The Temples have one. Occupation has won. People bought into magic, rather than the real message. It's just interesting, that's all. It has nothing to do with God for me. God is religion, I personally don't think Jesus was about God, but that is because I see him as a human and nothing more, though he likely saw it differently due his times and indoctrination.
And again that is no slur on Jesus. You know that the earth is one of many planets that go around the sun, Jesus had no knowledge beyond his local environment and what he either heard or read and the book shops were not as good as today. Amazon was not around then and Jesus would have been angry about them actually too.
Well good on u. I, in the past talked with this guy who would always want to discuss how he didn’t believe and argue religion with me. I was like what do we do just keep going to and fro saying yes he does exist, no he doesn’t exist. Seems a bit pointless. Your point of view is fine. Lots of people don’t believe in anything. I just don’t talk about it here as that’s what it amounts to, no he does, yes he doesn’t. I don’t need to prove anything, we are all going to find out someday anyway.
Yeah, so what at the end of the day. You believe and I don't. It's one of those "So what?" things. Next topic. Nobody needs to be upset. At least Christians appear able to take it that way better than some other less enlightened groups.
Sorry, I meant no he doesn’t, yes he does, as in exist.
That sums it up miles. You won’t convince me and I won’t u. I will ask if u don’t mind, when you were going through your terrible medical issues did u even once call out to god? The most staunch atheists in my platoon would plead to god when the shit hit the fan. Afterwords they were back to god bashing, I always find it funny. Funny only in the ironic way not funny someone is suffering
Don't associate me with you nerds, the day i'm ever bothered by anything anyone says on here or need a truce is the day i'll top myself. I've never had an "enemy" and couldn't give a funk what anyone says or thinks about me. If you wanna talk, talk, if not don't. No grudges.
your point doesn't make any sense at all Walrus. We are not spending time talking about religion because it is not religion to us. It is historical stuff pure social historical humanistic stuff and not religion at all.
It is religion to you.
the other point about going back and forth about yes he does no he doesn't also doesn't make any sense at all. topics should be open to debate but you told me that religion was one topic that you will never debate. That is your right and that is your choice but to other people that seems very insecure and close-minded. plus there were a bunch of other topics the list of which just kept getting longer and longer that you said you did not want to talk about.
Again that is also your right but it is rather restrictive in a conversational perspective and after a while becomes a bit irritating in it's narrowness.
It's not a matter of trying to convince somebody one way or the other. It's just a matter of conversation at an adult level on complex topics

This is the best truce ever
You do have your doubts and your mind goes to a thousand different places, but what worked for me was to take it on the chin, accept that this happened because of the possibility that my diet and lifestyle choices had led my body to break down. I was so busy talking to surgeons and traveling up and down the country, I had to live in the moment, but for sure I had my moments when I wondered 'Could there be anything more?', but then the practical side of me had to say 'That is not a way to handle a serious situation. I need to find the best surgeon and to change myself. This is a test of my character and my body and with good human help and by changing a few things, I might be okay'. No doubt, you have these odd moments when you wonder if anybody or thing out there is observing, but logic would suggest not. You have to get through it on your own and it's down to surgeons and your own will in the end. In some ways, and I know it sounds strange with my body riddled with scars, but I am glad I went through the experience. I think some people do not realize they are alive and do not respect their bodies or appreciate what they have or have even contemplated their death, but I am sure you know what I mean having been on the battlefield. I have asked my wife 'Do you think about your death?' and she really does not and I think most ordinary people probably don't, but people, and there are a lot of them, who have been through really tough things like we have, you really do live as though you are dead already.
With the Jesus thing I am cool with a lot of what he seems to have stood for including standing up to authorities, being against unfair taxes, corruption, occupation, and wanting redistributing of resources and also being willing to die for a cause. I think that is a fantastic and brave thing to do, but I know a lot of ordinary people would probably say it was a bit silly and he should have lived a quiet peasant life and not stirred anything up. The whole Bible Harry Potter thing just goes too far for me. I do not believe in an omnipresent God who is looking out for everyone. When a fighter thanks God I find that insulting to not only himself but the valor of his opponent. It has nothing to do with God. It gets silly that way.
The interesting part is we are all going to die so we will all find out, it’s a cool thought. I look forward to it in a way
