Mayweather to fight in MMA
http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/i...ing-federation
He has signed to fight on December 31st in Rizin. It’s in Japan. The main problem is that they haven’t decided the exact rules for the fight. It looks like it won’t be a full MMA fight but it won’t be just a boxing match either.
I know that @Master is very interested

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
It will be almost exclusively boxing, or basically a fix, is my guess. The guy he’s fighting appears to be a good kick boxer, and although hes fought at 126 pounds and never above from what I gather, there is no way Floyd signs up to let a guy kick him at will. This will probably be more pointless than the Mcgregor fight.... If it Is more or less boxing, he’s fighting a featherweight novice this time. It will no doubt be a huge financial success as Japan is a massive and loyal market for their fighters, and it can be passed off as legitimate because they aren’t wise to Floyd’s act, and this kid he’s fighting is in his own right(sport). He will make a killing as well and his career won’t be any worse for it once he goes back to doing what he does against guys his size.

No interest in this at all

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
I wonder if Floyd is broke?
I just do not understand why Floyd is doing this, maybe he is being blackmailed.
Why would you put yourself through this?

Because he loves you talking about him and realized you had a few days not posting about him. :master: ;);D;D

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
How many hangers on does he still have around him?
This is a bit silly but I always wondered how much these yes-men actually cost per month and where do you "recruit" them. Do they get weekly wages with a proper contract?
And he isn't bancrupt. It looks like he just likes (needs) the attention. Plus 100 million Dollars for turning up.

He might be allowed 5 kicks per round or something.

Well I hope he breaks his leg in the process.

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
The epitome of boredom. You can only live off of visiting pubs with your entourage and burning $10,000 bills for so long before you itch to do something different, I would imagine. Don't think the networks are knocking at his door to offer any commentator jobs, so that's out. Public speaking is out as well, as Floyd would probably engage a public's interest for about 4 minutes, and speaking engagements are usually longer than that. Now he has to see Canelo getting all the attention and that has to hurt. Must be tough when you're 41 and you've got another 40 years of boredom and uselessness to look forward to. I can see wrestling bears in his future.

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
There's nothing about it on his twitter. He's always said that if he's not announced it, then it's not happening...

Yeah you're right. Who cares that there's an article, a news conference, and a video of Mayweather himself announcing it.
Twitter of course trumps all that.

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
The problem is that it’s going to be PPV. I would probably tune in if it were free, but I’m not even going to waste my time finding a stream. If it’s full on MMA then I might, but it won’t be.
-
Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
Maybe it’s true, but how likely is it that Floyd agreed to a fight before the rules of the fight had been decided? He’s all about location, catch weight, gloves, A-side vs B-side...
-
Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
My god ;D. Now that's just kind of embarrassing. Poor guy is one severe IRS tax audit away from fighting professional sports mascots.
-
Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
Not even for FREE.
Now.... if paid to watch, I might consider it.

he can take on the one that wilder knocked out :S
i find this fight fairly interesting if it is indeed kickboxing or mma, normal boxing match v this youngling seems a bit pointless though.

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
Floyd is not broke.
Imagine..just imagine how much he is getting paid for this.
It’s a circus..a joke and Floyd doesn’t care..why should he?
He retired beating all the best and this is another 9 figure payday.
9 figure payday..what real estate or business he owns can pull in 9 figures in less than 36 minutes?

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
This is really weird
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news...ather-10902024
TOKYO: Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, who aims to make history by defeating boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr, claims his left hook is like a "bolt of lightning" that will "change the world".
The baby-faced southpaw with a blond quiff, who is only a few months out of his teens, was barely known outside his home country before the shock announcement of his New Year's Eve fight with the unbeaten Mayweather.
But the 20-year-old from Chiba near Tokyo is considered something of a prodigy in Japanese fighting circles and began learning karate at the tender age of five.

Which would make sense, if only ESPN didn't see fit to put it on their sports news coverage.
Was watching First Take and sure enough... they covered it on their show. Granted, it was only the last 2 minutes of the show but really?
Again. If I was paid to watch, I might consider it.

Manny Pacquiao v Floyd Mayweather: Rematch a 'big possibility' says Filipino
https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cp...-472121406.jpg
Manny Pacquiao says a rematch with Floyd Mayweather is a "big possibility" as he "cannot retire with peace of mind" following his 2015 defeat.
The Philippine great lost to American Mayweather in Las Vegas by unanimous points decision, although he has since regained a version of the world title.
The two met in Japan at a concert, where they talked about a rematch.
"I told him 'I've got the belt and I am a champion' and he said he would get my belt," Pacquiao said.
The 2015 fight between the two multi-weight world champions was billed as the 'Fight of the Century,' but following a tame defeat, which saw Mayweather add the WBO welterweight title to his WBC and WBA titles, Pacquiao said he had been suffering with a shoulder injury.
"It's different - this time there are no excuses," Pacquiao, 39, told BBC Radio 5 live boxing correspondent Mike Costello.
"I cannot retire with peace of mind with that defeat."
In January, Pacquiao will defend his WBA world welterweight title against American Adrien Broner, himself a four-weight world champion. The belt is a secondary title, as the holder of the 'super' title, Keith Thurman, is recognised as the champion of the division by the WBA.
Pacquiao, who also said he would be "happy" to take on British fighter Amir Khan, added: "We met in Japan - we met accidentally. He said he wants to have a rematch and we agreed, but not this time, maybe after the January fight."
Mayweather, 41, has not fought since he beat Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor in 2017, but will make a return to the sport on New Year's Eve against Japanese kick boxer Tenshin Nasukawa.
Mayweather posted about the encounter with Pacquiao on Instagram. "Another nine-figure pay day on the way," was the American's assessment.

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
Floyd will never lack for money nor attention.
He's got plenty to do. Fight some Japanese kickboxer in Japan.... give Pacquiao a rematch.... maybe MMA's Khabib will want a shot to do what McGregor couldn't.... the possibilities are endless.
And with ESPN happily covering his every venture, the casuals will flock to whatever event in which Mayweather decides to perform.
Actually, the conversation between him and Pac probably didn't include anything about belts..... just money.

Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
You think he's going to just allow himself to get James Toney'ed? You think he'd just let that happen? It would destroy his ego.
He's not fighting MMA, he's not going to fight anyone he could possibly lose to although it would be REAL HA-HA funny if he got sparked out by an MMA fighter which is exactly why it's NOT going to happen.
-
Re: Mayweather to fight in MMA
MMA guys with boxing rules. ;) ;) The kickboxer will have to learn how to box really really really fast. ;)

I would love it if Floyd does get flattened. Just love it.

Mayweather statement
Now that I am back on U.S. soil after a long and disappointing trip to Tokyo, I now have the time to address you, my fans and the media in regards to the upcoming event on December 31st that was recently announced.
First and foremost, I want it to be clear that I, Floyd Mayweather, never agreed to an official bout with Tenshin Nasukawa.
In fact (with all due respect) I have never heard of him until this recent trip to Japan.
Ultimately, I was asked to participate in a 9 minute exhibition of 3 rounds with an opponent selected by the "Rizen Fighting Federation". What I was originally informed of by Brent Johnson of "One Entertainment" was that this was to be an exhibition put on for a small group of wealthy spectators for a very large fee.
This exhibition was previously arranged as a "Special Bout" purely for entertainment purposes with no intentions of being represented as an official fight card nor televised worldwide.
Once I arrived to the press conference, my team and I were completely derailed by the new direction this event was going and we should have put a stop to it immediately.
I want to sincerely apologize to my fans for the very misleading information that was announced during this press conference and I can assure you that I too was completely blindsided by the arrangements that were being made without my consent nor approval.
For the sake of the several fans and attendees that flew in from all parts of the world to attend this past press conference, I was hesitant to create a huge disturbance by combating what was being said and for that I am truly sorry.
I am a retired boxer that earns an unprecedented amount of money, globally, for appearances, speaking engagements and occasional small exhibitions.
Fight is off...well it wasn't on to begin with
