Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
After seeing James Braddock's real fights I realize that they must showed just the action in his fights and nothing else because IMO compared to Ali's fights they were boring... Also I think that they could have made Ali so much better, and that it was pretty boring. I also don't understand why they stopped at the Foreman fight, and not the Thrilla in Manilla.
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
I like the story behind Braddock better...the guy goes on welfare, wins fights, PAYS BACK welfare which no one does now. He had it tough, and he kept it together and had respect for his opponents.
Ali was a mouth and he was fucking boring and a prima donna to boot. Yeah big fucking deal not going to Vietnam, that's his whole story "I'm Ali, I'm a muslim, I'm not going to Vietnam" the end.
The more that is talked about Ali the less I like him
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
... Wow ... I didn't you could actually stereotype one person, but Lyle did it... There was alot to the background of ALi, but instead of droning on about it I think they should have also focused on in what in the end made him and that was his boxing.
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
cinderella man--was better
cuz ali has will smith--the whole time i was watching the movie -i was like the fresh prince beating sonny liston ...i dont think so
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
Cinematically, Ali was a nice looking movie.
The whole structure of the movie was HORRIBLE though.
I mean you could probably make like 5 full-length feature films about significant events in Ali's life.
Instead of focusing on one or two of them, they just ran through event after event so hastily.
There was no significant point in the whole film.
I mean they spent like what, 5 minutes in total about Joe Frazier? What's up with that?
Nice idea, direction looked pretty beautiful throughout, but the storytelling/structure was just horrid.

lolol
I tried so hard not to think I was watching Will Smith but I admit it wasn't easy.
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
I liked Ali better. Because it showed James toney getting knocked out by Charles Shuffurd ;)
But I really liked Ali a lot better. Because Will Smith impressed me with his portrayal of Ali. Cinderella man I think was alright, but it didn't do it for me like I thought it should. And they didn't end it in the Thrilla in Manilla because the Foreman fight was Ali's greatest accomplishment inside the ring because people gave him no chance.
Why didn't they end the Braddock movie with him dooming Joe Louis to his future as a casino greeter? ;)

How did Braddock doom Louis to a greeter at Caesars, when Louis made 25 title defenses. but both movies were bad IMO, first of all Will Smith did a horrible impression of ALI, he sounded nothing like him at all, to me it was a joke. And Cinderella Man was okay until they showed the Baer-Braddock fight as a war, Baer clowned the entire fight, basically giving the fight away. By all acounts that I have read over the yrs Baer was never big on training in the first place, but after the death of Frankie Campbell he never fought with the same feirceness again. I seen the fight on classic espn a few times and Baer was acting like a clown.

I enjoyed the Cinderella Man as entertainment but I too hated the typical American Hollywood 'lets just chnage how it was' revisionist crap.
They potrayed Baer as an absolute animal, a sadistic cruel man who had nothing but contempt for Braddock. I've actually seen Max Baer being interviewed before the Braddock fight and he says of Braddock 'He's got a great punch and I'll have to be careful. If he catches me it could be good night Maxy!'. Hardly the kind of talk the cinematic Baer would have said.
Like you said, he actually had the reputation of being a clown, and not taking boxing too seriously, preferring to always be a joker rather than seriously knuckle down to training. I guesss there is no point moaning Hollywood's portrayal however. I mean if they can completely revise the History of World War 2 and have Ben Affleck single handedly winning the Battle of Britain, or American scientists cracking the enigma code then I guess trampling all over Baer's history is small fry by comparison.
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
Yeah Baer was a funny guy who might have been a little crass in real life and Hollywood portrays him like he's just a horrible mean person.
And of course Ali was revisionist as well, everyone liking him? What the hell is that about some people didn't like him AT ALL. There was a lot more to the Ali-Frazier I than they showed, also no one shows how Frazier slipt into a coma after that fight???

They didn't stop the Foreman fight, George was counted out in the act of rising. Eddie Futch did stop the fight in the 14th in the Thriller in Manilla.
... I think I'm right there?
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
he meant the movie stoped at the foreman fight
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
Why not show him gettin his ASS WHUPT ON BY KEN NORTON?!?!?!
At least Braddock lost with class and didn't make excuses! "As you can see I'm not hurt, only my jaw is a little swolen"...yeah Muhammed it's the size of a beach ball because Joe Frazier hid a bee in his glove.....what a jackass...skilled as hell but he was such a jackass

Sorry Lyle, getting myself confused there!
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
i prefered Cinderella man, Ali was the exact same as one of the earlier films made about him, can't remember the name of it, but the difference was in the other one the actor was much better playing Ali than Will Smith(it wasn't the one where Ali played himself either, before some smart ass makes that joke!!)
Re: Movies Ali vs. Cinderella Man
I know this is kinda off the topic but you know what was a good boxing movie was Price of glory I liked that one.
