Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Card kicks off on Fox in a few hours. Stay busy fight for Santa Cruz in a division with some good matches to be made in the future..let us hope. Not sure what Figueroa jr is doing with his career and potential but he's doing it slooowly. Style wise this has the makings of a real shoot. Molina always makes for an honest scrap but he's going to need to get off to a faster start here. Carlos Lincona defends his minimumweight strap v DeeJay Kriel also :dJ:. Not sure if he's really a DJ but when else is there a chance to us that one :-X.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Interested in Figueroa/ Molina (I was a big Figueroa fan awhile back), this should be a war while it lasts. Funny that Figueroa requested the fight at 140, then had to request a higher weight not far out from fight day. Surprise, surprise.
Licona is decent (although I thought he lost a close 1 to Barriga), but I think this is Kriel's coming out party.
I lost some respect for Santa Cruz after he failed to give Frampton a fight in the UK, and since then he's been coasting. Him and Russell need to unify already.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Didn't realize that, so basically he couldn't make the weight. Kid likes to eat and he just hit 30. Not good. I can't fault Leo for playing hard ball in rematch. He showed another side with solid disciplined boxing but both Santa Cruz and Russell jr are in idle. Loved how he came out of the gate with first title win and huge activity level. A fighting champ. All four at 126 are top notch talents but they have to sort it out!

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Ah man thats a tough watch. Forgot about Leos Father fighting that fucker Cancer. It doesn't get better than the support he can give him right now.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Donnie Marshall v 6'7 Sebastian Fundora jr middles to start off. I like Joe Goosen on the mic again.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Fundora has the Paul Williams bug. Great tall freaky frame but fights to get it inside and swings away. Marshall absorbing a lot in 2nd hoping on brick. Able to land rights but Fundora takes it well.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Big uppercut drops Marshall beginning of 3rd and still staggered. Fundora is a gangly buzzsaw and gets leverage on his uppercuts. Ref waves it off for tko.

126 is a division I should love because I love how they fight but I can’t get over how many of them(like Frampton) openly admitted the would and were ducking Rigo.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Likable young man but not ready to be rushed into title shot by years end. Guess you have easy options with a frame like that but like to see him eat some sammichs. Molina and Figueroa at the bell already. Yep Omar has that mid section paunch :-X. Oh great Jack Reiss, at least they got rid of that silly head cam he was wearing for a while.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Smart boxing round for Molina to open. Omar looks a bit odd ducking away like that again. Molina takes a low blow and Omar gets in a left. Good combo from Omar at rounds end and Molina ties up. Lennox calls Omar a bit messy ;D.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
I just don't like that look away thing Figueroa does. Bit surprised Molina looks so much naturally bigger. Better pressure from Omar in 2nd and working the body. Goood left upper hook to the belly of Molina as the round ends. 1-1 at the moment
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Turning into battle of body shots in 3rd, Molina boxing early and digs in a couple lefts downstairs. On the outside Omar really looks out of sorts momentarily but gets in his own right hand. Molina ends round with Omar trapped in corner and unloading. Good mix by Molina that round.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Again Molina starts round boxing off jab and keeps Omar shut down a bit. Ohh long right hand by Omar catches Molina clean, couple of big left hooks catch Omar coming in. Didn't think Molina would keep this pace and Omar digs the gut with Molina in the very same corner at rounds end. Very solid scrap lots of ebb and flow. Have Molina in front 2-1-1
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Both easing off in 5th. Molina steady boxing and clocks Omar with wiiiide right hand. Some of this stuff he does is bad body language but surely he's still watching Molina. Slower round but like to see Omar get something consistent going. 3-1-1 Molina and I didn't think that would be the case if I'm honest.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Ohh nice right by Omar gets Molina in Corner early 6th! Annnd Molina comes back, spins him and uncorks hooks of his own. Why no jab..at all..from Omar? That left to the body is best for Omar but scattered here. Some tough rounds! Molina ends round with big right hand to Omar who is basically sideways looking away. WTH is that. Have to go Molina again 4-1-1. Just more consistent and cleaner hits that move Omar.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Good start with rights by Omar and backs Molina to ropes. And another. That was clean and Molina sponged it. Good job by Omar keeping him smothered this round. They take turns going to body. Tough round to Omar, Probaly his best. 4-2-1 Molina
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
8th and Molina focused on the body and getting out. Omar smothering and whipping rights. Molina lands double right hands and he takes it well. Really some hard work by both guys along the ropes with mutual abuse to the body. Omar starts talking to him as round ends. That was a coin flip round and I hate even rounds ;D. 4-3-1 Molina
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Molina out boxing in 9th shooting right off the jab. Omar smiling after taking a left hand. Nice little stab jabs by Omar 5,6,7 in a row move Molina back. Where has it been. What this fight needs is a clean KO because these judges are screwing someone tonight ;D. Another close round, edge to Omar with cleaner work! 4-4-1. Someone must have a huge final round.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
I’m not seeing the same fight as the announcers. I had Figueroa winning
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
I saw Figueroa Lansing like the punch stats said, far more than Molina
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Molina trying to box gets in some long right hands. Omar comes back and gets him in corner with 3 punch combo. Omar coasting juuust a bit when he needs to unload. Omar was shaking out his right hand near end. Jebus Christmas I have no idea, going Molina barely that round. Goosen says Omar thinks he lost but I'm wondering if he's going to say his right is hurt the way he's looking at it. 5-4-1 at end so basically a draw with the even round :p. Neither won wide at all but we're seeing some of those weird scores lately.

Way I ended can see that too. Good scrap wish it was 12.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Evening chaps. Just missed Figueroa and Molina. How could that not have been a good fight? :)
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
And punch stats are done by humans prone to error Ron ;D. Ok judges in but they're taking some time :wisesmilie:. Man. They are really dragging this out....
Unanimous 97-93..98-92..99-91 Omar ???. Told you. Fookin told ya. This was NOT a wide score. Bull crap.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Showing replays “trading right hands” announcer says while they show Figueroa land repeatedly, same as the fight calling different than what was happening
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Poor Figueroa been hurt hurt hurt and now he will sit with another injury
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
any day now. How long can it take to count 10 rounds?
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Well that’s far too wide but I agree with them

The Jim Lampley syndrome. But announcers don't screw fighters judges do. Had it razor thin.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
How long has Lennox been completely bald :cwm13:
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Not sure about Rivera but he's approaching it like he came to fight. Go time!

Didn't he have some kind of weird hair/beard combination a few weeks ago? I seem to remember a few comments on here. This definitely looks new.

Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Santa Cruz doing work to the body and right uppercuts. Have a feeling that gap in levels will really start to show soon. Spence and Garcia ringside! Mikey has to get at least 2 inches with that hair alone ;D. Rivera no slouch he's trying to get to Santa Cruz mid section
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Santa Cruz is an interesting fighter. So quick to get that guard back up every time. Sounds so simple but you don’t see it
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Wonder how big that new sports arena is, looks like a huge turn out. Leo really whipping that left to the body but Rivera is a hard nut. Fires right back
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
This is turning into one way traffic
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
Watch..this will be one where scores are 115-112 territory ;D. Santa Cruz looking to slug and Rivera obliging him but Santa Cruz in full control. Basically both guys cannot dent the other. Final round!
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
If they counted how many times Leo hits himself on the thighs and shakes his hands he's be near 2000 punch range.
-
Re: Leo Santa Cruz v Rafael Rivera - Figueroa Jr v Molina Jr
119-109 across the board for Santa Cruz. Now get some unifications going!

At this point in his career with the fact he's Mexican-American and from LA and with his fighting style he should be much bigger than he is.
