Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Former world champions square off as former lightweight champion Brandon Rios battles former super featherweight and lightweight titleholder Humberto Soto in a junior middleweight affair on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Municipal Auditorium Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Mexico.
Rios (35-4-1, 26 KOs) rebounded from a ninth-round loss to Danny Garcia in February 2017 to stop Ramon Alvarez by ninth-round TKO in a high octane battle in November last year.
Soto (68-9-2, one no-contest, 37 KOs) returned in 2018 after an 18-month layoff and defeated Joel Juarez and Edgar Puerta.
When Rios and Soto step through the ropes, expect nothing less than a brutal battle between the two.

Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Not confident, but backing Soto in this one.

Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Ok this is bad. Hearn is scrapping the barrel in a battle of recyclables with this hoping to fatten Rios up to be massacred at 154 to follow. They just don't belong anywhere near 154+.

As past their best as they are, both will be in much better shape than Mr Stiverne.

Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Some fight on just now, Cordova v steve corino. Cordova stands weird, pretty much square to the guy, sort of working for him here but someone will ko him pretty easy... maybe even corino.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Bloody hell they are playing daddy Yankee at a Mexican boxing event..... they need to fire the dj..
Also some boxing going on. Cordova got the decision, now hector tanajara fights a geezer who I think makes.makes his money with ms13 by the look of him.....oh fight over, I think it's stopped due to a head but cut
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Some strange goings on, ref takes a point off for a headbutt. Doctor stops it due to cut by head but, so they call it an accidental head but and it goes to the scorecards. Guy who was head butted won anyway so it's just a bit odd.... all judges score it 40-36 so no point deduction given :S sergio mora claims he doesn't know what the score should be as he doesn't have a calculator
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Started watching Dirrell card and forgot this. Soto has logged some quality years. I see Bam Bam has packed his bags :-X
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Sergio mora is highly amusing... sort of... "soto looks like someone's father.... well he is someone's father"...
I hope soto wins this, his balding head is an inspiration to everyone
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
It has to be said but Soto looks like some old Tim Conway character with that magnificent hair. Soto really putting punches together
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto looked to have some good success at he end of the second round... maybe enough for him to win the round, rios was landing more in the previous minutes though... rios looked a bit damaged there though
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Can't help but have that feeling of eventually it catches up. But Soto is working his arse off and was daring Rios sticking his head in and slipping punches.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Y interesting fight. Rios is doing more but soto is landing the better punches for sure I think, rios started bad in his last fight and came on strong later on and soto and is pretty old. Could be interesting. .. rios will have brain damage before long.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Rios had brain damage before he started boxing. Anyone help me to watch this? Can’t find it.....
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto fighting with a chip on his shoulder! Same 3 punch combo ending in 2 huge left hooks to cap round. You couldn't hit a guy any cleaner

It's one of those streams we're paying 9.99 for ;D
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Rios is certainly going to get kod badly in the coming year when he gets gifted a title shot... soto did the same three pnches combo at the end of the round and whacked rios good with the third punch left hook both times :S he's tough for sure and fit and hard working but this git is heading for brain damage

He's headed for brain damage upon the brain damage then.... try googLing reddit boxing streams, it usually pretty good for finding stuff. I'm watching on dazn though
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto really likes punching after bell... I approve.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto is a crafty fox.. he's exhausted but always manages to turn it up for the last seconds of the round... close and fun fight, I'm not scoring it though.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
I've only given 6th to Rios, close. I'll always go for a guy who can land at will. Case of two different skill levels clearly but I keep waiting foe the roof to collapse ;D.
Pretty impressed with Soto punch selection
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto is picking some very good punches... I think rios is landing quite a lot more than him though.. soto certainly the best punches though... soto seems really tires though and rios keeps coming and rios seems immune to soto power.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Rips off 5 punch combo, walks away..Rios stands there heavy on front foot, motionless and with mouth open. Man. Soto 8th for me
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto just going for it with ten seconds left every round is pretty funny to watch... I really want soto to win this one..
And whoever put rios in v a competent Mexican in Mexico is a masochist. ..
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto is fighting this fight as bravely as he is fighting against baldness..... Mon the soto you can do it! Don't shave that head
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
9 feels like a substance over style sort with Rios getting much closer and working inside to body. Another top finish to round for Soto but consistent strong round for Rios.
so PBC now using the old HBO theme music? That just feels weird
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Soto is tired now, I suspect the scores might be wide if it makes it to the cards... will be in favor of whoever the judges ae indebted too.... soto is the home fighter and rios is the promotion boy... will be interesting scorecards
Really like soto sitting down as long as he can too..
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Good end of the round from the crafty fox there, rios might have won it though...soto has definently landed the better stuff all fight.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Tough call on 10th Rios felt stronger and did work. Soto ends round hitting him like a piñata full of gummy bears. Rios effective 11th with pressure on. Soto running on rims a bit but thinking his way through well.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
Gave Soto 12th. I think he won this fight with early investments, maybe 115-112 but more cleaner and consistent work by Soto. He earned it.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
I guess it was rather predicate soto seems to have saved something the last round and I think won it, only round I scored.... no Idea who won that, it was fun to watch soto is old but a crafty git. Rios looks bad though, if they give title shot at this weight he's going to sleep.
-
Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
119-111 honestly didn't see that coming :-X. Great get back fight for Soto..Alpha you got it. Good scrap

Suspicious scorecards I think... not that I actually scored it.
Good work from old git soto, hopefully if he continues he gets paid well.
I'd like to see the pnches stats for this one :S very happy soto won though good for him some I'm not going to complain.

Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
I didn’t watch, but I had it 120-96 for Soto. Excellent work.

Really good fight. I'm happy for Soto. Rios should hang em up.

Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
I only found about this fight Saturday night. Excellent scrap. Happy for Sotto. Kinda happy for Rios too, since he should know now to never set foot in the ring again!
I love these fights though, as bad as they appear on paper, I think they are what boxings all about. Kinda reminded me of the Tua Barrett scrap a good few years back.

Yea these guys may not be elite, but if matched evenly they can provide entertaining fights.

Re: Brandon Rios vs. Humberto Soto
The beauty of boxing is that it is all about levels. Most of the best fights are between undercard novices or over the hill veterans.
As long as people are well matched, they produce good fights. It doesn't matter what level they are
Promoters are now so scared of a loss, they produce terrible mismatches - which bore fans and don't help their fighter improve!

Well said X. Can't deny I look at Rios and his career missteps with a bit of bias, meanwhile many myself included overlooked a constant true professional who arguably saved one of his most disciplined performances for one last big shot. Soto has earned everything he has and younger softer ranks coming up now could learn much from old pros.
And Joe Cortez still screwed him over in bogus 'DQ' ;D.
