Billy Joe Saunders slaps opponent Shefat Isufi at weigh-in ahead of title fight

The Brit seemingly wanted to get one last psychological edge over his foe

Billy Joe Saunders gave his opponent Shefat Isufi a small slap at the weigh-in ahead of their fight on Saturday night.

The pair will square off at Stevenage FC’s Lamex Stadium for the vacant WBO super-middleweight world title, and both made weight at the 168lbs limit.

After stepping on the scales, Saunders and Isufi were brought together for one final face-off in which BJS pushed his head against the German and then gave him a light slap.

It’s fair to say that this incident ranks fairly low down on the list of the Brit’s recent antics, as he endured a troublesome 2018 out of the ring.

Last year, the WBO middleweight champion was fined £100,000 by the BBBofC after uploading a clip in which he taunted a drug addict by offering her “£150 of crack” in exchange for a sex act.

He then told the woman to hit a random man who happened to be walking past while calling him a ‘paedo,’ which she did.

Not long after this, BJS failed a drugs test and vacated his world title.

Now he gets the opportunity to win a new belt in the division above and push on for a more positive 2019.

That was a quick blow out and impressive first round knock out for his first fight by McCann.

Lane v Foster on now at super bantamweight for British and commonwealth title.

Foster knocks down Lane in the first round, he is a quality boxer. Very impressive.

Foster is so relaxed and fluid. Boxing impressively and in total control.

Foster is so dominate in the 3rd that ref was about to stop it. Foster switch hitting, doing excellent body work and beating up Lane

Lane still in there in the 4th round but still losing to Foster who is dominating but still very professional and not losing his focus.

Forster work rate has dropped in the 5th and Lane taking the punches.

5 nil

Miraculously Lane wins the 6th round, he landed some big right hands against Foster.

Lane was winning the 7th round when Foster hurt him with a big right hand and nearly stopped Lane.

6-1 Foster

Foster back in control of the fight again and just winning the 8th. Lane is brave and strong.

Lane wins round 9, busier and more consistent than Foster who was just pot shotting.

Lane busier and wins round 10, Foster has slowed down quite a lot now but he does have a lead and the knock down.

Lane winning now who is stronger and has the better work rate.

Lane punched low in the last round and Foster immediately knocks him down and stops him in the last round.

Lane did well to get back into the fight.

Saunders outboxing this Isufi in the 4th.Billy does look a bit chunky.

Saunders hurt Isufi in the 5th with body shits but Saunders hurt in the 6th and now is running and trying to get his legs back.

Saunders back on top now and his corner men laughing in the 7th.

Saunders too good for his opponent but nice work out for him after being out of the ring for so long.

Saunders is now a 2 time champion ?

He wants Smith in the future

Saunders did well. He can be a joy to watch inside the ropes and if he had a bit more pop he would be a superstar. For once Barry Jones had it right when he compared him to past defensive greats like Whitaker but you have to assume his lack of firepower is going to make any fights up at SMW a bit of an uphill struggle. He can be hurt and fighters like Smith, Canelo etc up at the higher wait would jump on him when wobbled and make it count. Be interesting to see if he can get a big name again.
