Richard Commey v Ray Beltran ESPN

Pretty solid styles match up with two who always bring it. One of a few cards this weekend. Not good to see Beltran miss weight though but don't believe it's the first time. Seems like a quick turn around for Commey who just had a busted hand cost him a date with Loma but has done very well to put himself in the top mix at 135 and cements it with an impressive win Friday night.

Carlos Adames 17-0 fights Patrick Day 17-2-1 at Jr middle. Heavyweight Junior Fa goes against worn and torn gatekeeper Dominick Guinn 37-12-1 who hasn't had a significant win since the Bush administration.

Just watched Easter vs Commey again to get psyched up for this matchup. It backfired. I had forgotten Commey held on like an octopus to escape being stopped. Now I just think “Easter beat Commey and beat another man who beat Commey, recently” why is Easter not getting a shot? Because he lost to Mikey? If you fight good fighters you lose sometimes.

And 5 seconds later I remembered the Bartholemy fight. Easter had another crack, are they running that back?

I think this is a solid fight. I have no problem with it. Commey was supposed to fight Loma but got hurt. I think that Beltran is a good tune up fight to fight Loma next.

Don't be a buzzkill Ron ;D. Yeh that was actually a very good scrap, I had Commey edging Easter. And truth be told Easter arguably lost to Barthelemy and Fortuna too. If anything these two have gone in two different directions, Commey up and Easter down. Real shame Commey was ordered mandatory for both Garcia and Easter II but both declined.

What time does this start, got tsn for the cop america this month and they are showing this.. Beltran is fun to watch, hopefully the commentators aren't still rambling about how he needs to win to stay in the country :S

Be interested to see how Commey deals with the bodywork by Beltran. I've got 9pm Central, hour and a half.

Commey up, but he lost to a guy Easter beat AFTER Easter beat Commey. When did the up start exactly? The 4 opponents he beat since those consecutive losses I only know from fighting him. Tonight would be the fight to tell us something if Beltran wasn’t 140 years old. All just looks like someone is being built to be a lamb to slaughter to me. But I could just be a buzzkill haha

Pretty tactical first five rounds from Adames and Day. Day bit busier picking his spots but Adames beginning to sit down on his stuff and needs to do so. Adames would do well to up his activity level but clearly the bigger puncher when he does open up. Day really getting clipped by a nice short upper-hook more than once.

A split decision to Shafikov, in Moscow. Haven't sat through the 12 rounds but Commeys up basically kicked off from the disputed Easter fight. Follow up 2 eliminators, minor title and then signs to fight Mikey who opted out, Easter does the same so Commey caps Chaniev for the belt. Fan familiar Beltran now serves as bit of a main event break out if Commey keeps his head on straight, then Loma and he can get talks back on track. Def an up. But first Beltran who should not be slept on at all. He knows this is it basically and rather than drain down comes in heavy, win over top champ outweighs a trinket I spose.

Adames a strong fighter, decent win. Feels a little bit Lacy though but early to tell. Day did well to remain upright when he was catching down the stretch. For some reason I still want to see Fa v Guinn ;D.

They are really pushing that Teofimo Lopez train haaaard.

Must have said it 20 times but I sure would like to see Mikey Garcia pick a definitive career path. He just went on about 135 to 147 but seems to always go back to "I just don't know right now".

Both these guys look fresh coming out good atmosphere. And here's to short shorts and tennis shoes. My goodness.

well there ya go. Beltran takes a seat off a long right hand.

Commey beating up a spent shell with two KDs..and here comes Beltran with a solid hook backs him off. Beltran hammers like a nail stuck in the corner end of 1st but stays up.

Poor old Beltran, this is looking really bad for him.... He misses weight hands over some money then commey rehydrate to be heavier than him..... Ohoh a bit of a comeback from Beltran at the end of the round. And then commey starts whacking him good again.... Not a bad first round

Ref helped Beltran by calling the second one a knock down, don't Think the ropes were holding him up he was just leaning into himm so ref helped him or just set him up for a longer beating

Commey needs to smarten up that close in. Beltran cuffing him up breaking his pace and has steadied. Commey right hand is on point but Ray looks totally clear now.

Both of these gits are pretty tough but Beltran is old and commey looks to get tired after his assaults they might make it 12. If I didn't lose all the Canadian quids betting on Venezuela today I'd bet on Beltran corner removing him later on

Commey fighting Beltrans fight in 3rd, has back seated the jab right and giving up ground.

That headbutt/clash of heads looked to have force behind it, that could swell up pretty bad.

Head smack together. Beltran taking Commey right hand well now which has lost that snap. Oh late round Commey unload has Beltran reeling across ring. Tough round with Commey needing that rally.

This is a fun fight, commey isn't the best or smartest boxer around but he can hit and likes to fight.... West Africans v mexicans is a good style match up

Free fire zone this 5th round. Fun stuff. Both clipped hard and Beltran small rally to end. Commey just needs to stay straight ffs but can't resist.

Another headbutt and Commey is glaring like Forest Whitaker.

Commey is a bloodthristy madman/idiot, makes for great viewing though.... Bloody hell good headbut by Beltran there..... Commey really can't resist going for the kill and tiring himself out... Commey getting the better of it but maybe those headbut will add up :S

1st thought is ref shouldn't allow 30-second clinches. We lose too much of a good round.

Bradley calls intentional headbutt tactics from Beltran then says he's not ;D. I have Commey well up but seriously he's making this too hard. Basically he's not to good inside. Beltrans legs look much better than the Pedraza fight and needs to mash the gas here in 8th. That eye of Commey is bad

Ohh nice, ref stops it, probably for the best, 4th knock down of the fight I think... He could have gone on in sure but that's aot of damage to take... Commey is good fun to watch.... He's doing push up's now :S

TBH I didn't see anything in Beltran's body language that merited a stop. I know refs get second guessed all the time, but the ref asked Beltran if he was ready to continue and Beltran clearly said yes.

Yeh felt like a case of patterns repeating themselves and accumulation. Beltrans old as dirt but he's always dangerous and will ride a standing stoppage to yet another top fight. Guy's like the Friday the 13th series

Good main event. Commey will be a great win for Lopez to prove that he is legit

That would be a solid match up and a proving ground for Lopez. Between Lopez talking up Loma and Commey I can't see Arum baby stepping him along. Tremendous promise and early reflex. Need to see him do that to someone who is at the top of what they do and upcoming eliminator with lanky Nakatani may do just that.

Comey has a strong right hand. Bertrand should think about retirement. The fight with Teofimo will be fun. I still have a question mark on the Teofimo jaw, so it might be interesting
