James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
A few cards on tonight and a needed distraction ;D. I like Jamal 'Shango' James and would love to see that 6'2 frame get in on the 147 action going around. Honestly though I thought Antonio DeMarco had retired and cannot see him doing much here. Helenius hasn't had many highlights since wobbling Whyte and makes his Stateside debut at the ripe age of 35 taking on fellow big man Gerald Washington. Bad news is Washington was absolutely battered by Kownacki last time out. At the least, hope for a mutual fire fight rather than two big hvys falling and mauling over each other.
Shakur Stevenson fights Alberto Guevara over on ESPN tonight too.

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Bryant Perella has Domonique Dolton in all kinds of trouble at end of 2nd. Fight of different levels here.
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Good stoppage by ref in 3rd. Dolton trying to argue case but literally staggering sideways.

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
It's still really weird hearing Charles Martin introduced as the former heavyweight champion :-X.

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Tough way to make a living for Daniel Martz who looks 28 going on 38. Works as a full time waiter at Ruby Tuesdays and has been KO'd by Parker, Ortiz, Jennings and now Martin. Along the way has beat ex spr middle contender Rubin Williams 4 times for easy pad wins. Martin calls out Wilder :-\

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Helenius opening up in 2nd trying to punch around the straighter shots of Washington. They have some airport hugging going on in 3rd, a couple big headbutts by Gerald leaping in.
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Under two tornado warnings and the lights are blinking. Oh lovely ;D. Like to see Helenius open up, Washington shuts down and rushes to clinch when the big shots start coming but in between getting off a few very sharp right hands.

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Good work from Washington that round. Helenius backing up head straight up and looking for wind. Washington pressing for what's left of that scalp!
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Helenius back in 6th and backing him off late. Washington cut over right eye. This has whoever wants it please step up written all over it. Washington shook by a hard jab
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Washington gives away most of 8th and comes back to hurt and flatten him! Helenius crumpled up on the canvas and can't beat count, still down.

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
The two main events on the other card might be pretty good, de la Hoya v Rony Rios and tomoki kameda, who's quite short but fun to watch v very tall but not very great rey vargas. Avilla just go stopped by joet gonazalez... Bit of a nasty beating by the end of the fight :S

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Interviewer is pushing Gonzalez quite hard to rip into Stevenson and Joel diaz, it's mildly amusing.
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
James getting hit way to much and obliging DeMarco just standing in front of him. Guy trying to be a slugger with a gift of that range.

Still trying to figure out what a WBO Global title belt is ;D. Probaly invented that last night. Hey is Kameda v Vargas main event?
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Yes, de la Hoya v rios now... De la hiya can be quick and skilled but he likes to let Ronny rios hit him with a left hook and down goes de la Hoya
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Missed last few rounds. All the damage is on DeMarco with both eyes muffed up but feels like he's very much in this, showing holes still exist in James in spots. Better mobile boxing from James in 9th.

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
And Ronny rios wins the vacant wba gold belt
-
Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Rey vargas wearing glasses reminds me of napoleon dynamite

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
James vs. Demarco was a very interesting fight. PBC has many interesting fights this year. Vargas is terrible. I think Kameda should have won

I’ve never thought that Vargas was that good but he definitely beat Kameda. Kameda did alright but didnt do enough to win

Vargas used too many holdings. If Rigo does not go pick him up first, Danny Roman hurts him badly
Kameda 114
Vargas 113

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Kameda doesn't even think kameda won, he had some nice moments early on and nearly had napoleon Vargas out in the 12th due to blatant cheating but this fight wasn't that close at all, kameda has good hands but he still can't deal with guys with a long reach.. Kameda was even trying and failing to out jab Vargas for a round :S......

It is a cultural thing. Most Japanese boxers politely accept the judge's decision. I gave Vargas only 5 rounds

Re: James v DeMarco & Helenius v Washington FS1
Just saw the Washington KO of Helenius.... it's like there's an epidemic of dumb boxers :shakehead:
There should be a rematch for certain, big props to Washington for making the adjustment on his punches, but holy hell did Helenius just give that away.
