Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Read this on a few sites today; Joshua gets a huge slice of the pie $$ for the rematch and Ruiz point blank won't fight anywhere but the US/Mexico.
Ruiz team seem to think there's "another contract" they've yet to sign for this rematch.?
Long story short if Ruiz refuses to fight he'll be out of action and lose his belts.
I don't think this fight will happen 😉

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
If Eddie can do press conferences to announce fights without fighters the next step is obvious. Eddie can do the fight without fighters.
Let’s not be silly, if the IBF just granted him an exemption to fight Joshua then Ruiz is doing his proper paperwork. It’s evidence he intends to fight Joshua otherwise he wouldn’t bother filing with the IBF. Eddie, and more importantly the wildly inept DAZN people, need to step up and make the fight happen. They desperately need Ruiz, so pay like desperate people pay and everyone is happy

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Yup rematch clauses are insurance policies....you didn't realize this? This is all a part of the game.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
I think that Ruiz is going to accept. He just said that he wanted it to be in the US or Mexico. He wouldn’t turn down that big of payday. He also went into the first fight knowing that in case of a rematch, he has no say in the venue.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Used to be I didn't care who won. Now the more I read the more I'd love for the 2nd fight to end just like the 1st fight or worse.

I agree, I think Ruiz wants a bigger slice of the pie and I think he will get it.

I was rooting for AJ to win the rematch destructively because I want the AJ/Wilder fight to happen. But Eddie is such a constant lying dirtbag.... Hard not to root against all his fighters. In the end I will root for AJ, but phony AJ and Eddie make it hard.

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Lewis had to sue Rahman to force him to honour the rematch clause. The fact he won, which cost Rahman millions, would suggest Andy/Al Haymon will be doing this fight. ;)

One of Lennox arguments for the immediate rematch was that he was near the end of his career and had Manny Stewart go on the stand to explain that to the judge.
Ruiz is just playing hard ball and I think eventually have the rematch once he gets paid an even huge amount than what is in his contract.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
For sure, Ruiz - well, his army of managers/advisers/lawyers - is merely playing the game. Those figures ($9 million/$60 million) are clearly guesses made by the media, the actual contracts are never seen by anyone but the tiny group it concerns.
It's laughable to think multi-millionaire ruthless businessmen air their real business in public.
Lewis's courtroom victory was instantly hailed as a landmark judgment by his New York-based lawyer, Judd Burstein. "In years to come Lewis v Rahman will be the case cited in all such hearings," said Burstein. Moments after the judgment a shellshocked Rahman was asked his views as he made his way down the courtroom steps. "If I don't get the purse I want, I won't fight," he fumed. This, however, is one rematch the champion would seemingly be wise to avoid. "If Rahman doesn't fight Lennox I'll hit him with a lawsuit for $10 million damages," warned Burstein.

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Aj getting nearly 7 times what ruiz is getting?
This pisses me off. I'm all for rematch clauses but no way a challenger should get more.
I like AJ but not a huge fan, and I'm liking the way ruiz is coming across. I also want to see fury school Joshua but it could be I start to root for Ruiz here - who I do expect to win still.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Ruiz can't start bitching now because he's already signed the original contract and agreed the rematch split $$ which is why I think he'll pull out and be stripped.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
The figures are nonsense (unverifiable), click-bait, AJ won't be getting close to that amount.
1st fight - it was reported AJ got $35m to Ruiz $5 million (7-times more).
2nd fight - it is reported Ruiz will get $9 million, it doesn't take a genuis to multiply 9-by-7 - $63m. If Ruiz purse was reported as $20m these same fake guessers would be reporting AJ's is $140m.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Didn't know rematch clauses had purse split agreements in them. That should be negotiable.
I do get it that hearn gave him the shot mind.
If this fight falls through its another major fuck up for the sport.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
The Saudis have pumped a SHITLOAD of dollars into this fight, they're building a brand new outdoor open air arena just for the fight so i reckon the figures are easily about right.
Ruiz would be a fool if he does refuse to fight.

I think Whyte turned down the bout against AJ because they were dictating what Whyte would get if he won and there was a rematch which I agree is wrong as your earning/power goes up considerably if Whyte won. These contracts are wrong and unfair.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Yep. It's like you've got to beat the guy twice to be the big earner. Yet if you lose the rematch you'd be frozen out and no chance of a rubber.
It will be silly money though and ruiz should take it but I'd have a problem accepting less money than AJ. Let alone significantly less which it looks like - though not confirmed.

That would be a tough one, for Ruiz to ask for parity against AJ but no harm in getting a fairer proportion of the crazy money being offered by these billionaires.

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Does anyone remember the last Matchroom/AJ negotiation that wasn’t a $hit$how?

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
I don't quite understand why Hearn and AJ are not bending over backwards to salvage his career and right this wrong :scratchchin:. Ruiz knows he belongs and he's been paid and will be paid again, I can't fault him for playing some hardball and glad it sounds like they are opposed to Saudi zzzzzzz Arabia. He also has the options. First thing I thought before the dust settled is he'd be stripped over the politricks at some point.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Regardless of the exact numbers or the math, who someone else here correctly said no one else is privy to......... the underlying fact is this:
How is AJ going to look if his chance to avenge the guy who beat the stuffing out of him goes by the wayside because the parties involved can't come to an agreement?
Shit.... I'd hate to be in AJ's shoes.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Perhaps Hearn & AJ are attempting to buy time so that he can get his mind right :dontknow: If anyone wants the fight immediately it should be Ruiz as he's feeling fully confident after having knocked out AJ. The dragging of the feet in making the rematch happen will PERHAPS deflate Ruiz, maybe allow Ruiz to get a bit full of himself with TV appearances and all, all while AJ focuses and attempts to rebuild his confidence.
AJ (or perhaps it's Hearn) is acting like a pro (in a bad way) he's being cagey with the contract and it could work to his advantage it could also piss Ruiz off. Who needs the fight more? AJ is still a former champion so he's got his brand already and he could build it back without fighting Ruiz again. Ruiz could fight someone else and at the top level he could lose, he could win and not be impressive, his style is a burnout style too AJ's is a long haul style (easier to change into a long haul style at least).
Do I want to see the rematch? Sure! Am I interested in the minuscule details regarding the rematch? Not so much. Business is business AJ is trying to make sure he's paid, if he loses it could be the last fight he ever has (depending on his heart and severity of loss) and Ruiz is trying to get paid likewise.

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
If I was Joshua I'd be telling Hearn to STFU and just get me that rematch.... I want to reestablish my image ASAP. I don't want my lasting impression with my fans to be my getting beaten senseless by the Pillsbury Doughboy.
All of Hearn's headgames are making Joshua look like a wuss.... not exactly an image befitting the former heavyweight champion of the world.
If this lasts too much longer, Ruiz should just say F it, start looking for greener pastures. He's the one with the belts now. Let Team AJ do the groveling.

Pure speculation on my part of course....just trying to reason out why he'd take his time. But yeah both guys want that big $$$ next fight is never a guarantee

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Sky sports news are saying AJ has called Lennox Lewis a clown. Not a good PR move for AJ.
-
Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Heard that but not sure I believe he'd say that about Lennox.
The truth will out..

AJ's unraveling I tell ya. Maybe Lennox quietly said the same thing I said in my last post.
I don't remember/don't care what the financial/contractual ins and outs were when Lennox got ingloriously knocked out by Rahman and McCall. All I know is Lennox came right back and avenged both losses.
Joshua's letting Hearn speak for him.... he's talked about wanting to get motivated again :-X ....... and he's looking more and more like a wuss on a daily basis.
He should be chomping at the bit and demand Hearn STFU and be a bit more flexible. That is.................... if he really thinks he'll win the rematch. ;) ;)

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
I believe AJ is done , he will have a few wins for sure. Any fighter with a good chin will now just go for AJ, he isn't sound around the whiskers.

Do you have a source for this AJ $60m/Ruiz $9m?
The first reports came from twitter, that Saudi Arabia paid Hearn a $40 million site fee (Hearn laughed, saying "we wish").

Another excuse for refusing the Joshua rematch was they gave Whyte just 13 weeks to train instead of his ideal 14 weeks.
That was his final excuse, anyway.

not sure what was in the original contract regarding the rematch clause, ruiz may be sat on the shelf fighting in court rather than the ring, i'm sure uncle al will happily try to get wilder in matches to pick up stripped titles

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Is this the same Lennox Lewis who works for PBC (Al Haymon)? The one who called Joshua a coward? And constantly slates his team, training camp, decisions etc?

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
Another twist!
Speaking on Thursday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Warren said: “Eddie has a point that he’s got a contract with him, but he’s got a real problem in saying he’ll be stripped of his titles.
“That’s not up to him at all, the titles belong to the governing bodies.
“The bottom line is, the US State Department advises its citizens not to go to Saudi Arabia for many reasons – the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, human rights issues, they’ve got a long paragraph on torture, cruel and inhumane treatment, women’s rights and it talks about the risk of going to airports where terrorists may attack – that’s all on their official website.
“His own government is telling him his life could be in danger.

Interesting. From the article - In the past year, the Middle Eastern nation have delved into boxing, hosting two notable bouts with relative success. The World Boxing Super Series super-middleweight tournament final between Callum Smith and George Groves all went to plan in Jeddah last September, and Amir Khan’s last fight against Billy Dib took place in the same city.
Does anyone know why there wasn't such an outcry over these fights?

Re: Ruiz $9 Million / AJ $60 Million - Ruiz to be stripped of belts
The speculation over AJ's money rumbles on, all sorts of experts claiming this and advising him to do that.
Anyone here willing to drop their wage considerably because the last job they did went tits up? Fuck off ;D
Person who's business is to make as much money as possible in a short period of time, tries to make as much money as possible in a short period of time. Shocker.

It's not Joshua's true colours that are being revealed though is it? Lewis for all his amazing achievements outside of the ring, HAS acted like a clown in being so threatened by a current British Heavyweight. He is shown little class and Joshua could not have acted any more like a gentleman if he had been written as a character in a book. He was more than magnanimous in letting Ruiz take all the credit he was due, and yet now Ruiz is acting like a spoilt brat then people are lining up to rag on Joshua. If they already believe that this one loss will define him, you have to ask yourself, what kind of fan where they anyway.
I know that you were never blind to his faults in the ring but I really do not think AJ has done much outside of it for people to be lining up to make the former champion who put everything on the line. in another country, to a non-mandatory challenger, into some kind of Prima Donna.
