He is apparently in intensive care, in serious condition, after rolling his Ferrari.
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Sources tell CBS 11 News the driver of a Ferrari who was seriously injured in a rollover crash in Dallas is local boxing sensation Errol Spence Jr.
The crash happened just after 3 a.m. on Riverfront Boulevard near I-30 near downtown and involved one vehicle.
According to police, the vehicle was going at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes in the 500 block of S. Riverfront Boulevard. The vehicle went over the center median and flipped multiple times, ejecting the driver. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police say the driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition and is expected to survive. He remains in the intensive care unit.
His identity was not officially released but sources close to Spence confirmed he was involved in the crash.
Police are continuing to investigate what exactly caused the crash.
Spence, a welterweight champion from DeSoto, is currently 26-0 in his professional career and his latest match was against Shawn Porter on Sept. 28.
The local boxer made his professional debut in November 2012. He won the IBF welterweight title in May 2017 and has defended it since.
Spence defended his welterweight title twice in front of the local crowds at The Star in Frisco on June 16, 2018 against Carlos Ocampo and at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Mar. 16, 2019 against Mikey Garcia.

The car looks totalled, but they are saying being thrown free of it may well have saved him being killed outright. Not sure how they come to that conclusion although the roof does seem to have gone.

Puts things into perspective a bit. Hope the fella pulls thru, he has been a breath of fresh air for boxing.
Let’s hope he’s okay.
Crazy. We have no idea the extent of his injuries. There have been no reports about it possibly being fatal so I’m assuming that we are just waiting to hear how bad it is.
From what I've read he'll be OK. Whether he boxes again ? I don't know. Whether he even wants to box again ? i don't know

But presuming he survives then maybe Spence can be the new Kanye.

It was this car accident in 2002 that inspired Kayne's first song and major hit in 2003 "Through The Wire". It's likely without the car accident Kayne wouldn't have went on to become what he has become.
But if Spence can't continue his career, then hopefully he's done well with the money he's made and can manage it.
The first chance he can walk, he better go to church and thank God he’s alive and I MEAN that because for some reason he never wore a seat-belt and that saved him. He was traveling close to 200 mph in that Ferrari and was ejected b4 the car rolled over 5 times, had he not been ejected ? Would he have survived ?
Happen. Not. Gonna.

Ferrari's and most high power cars can flip or go out of control over a little pot hole.
Paul Williams, Diego Corrales (RIP) and Salvador Sanchez (RIP) must be thinking

And this is why you don’t marinate fights. You never know what might happen inside or outside the ring. It wouldn't surprise me if Arum is trying to put together Spence/Crawford now.
Boxer Errol Spence in ICU after Ferrari crash in Dallas
Welterweight boxing champion Errol Spence crashed a speeding Ferrari in Dallas early Thursday and was badly injured but is expected to survive, police said.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m., when Spence’s Ferrari crossed a median into oncoming traffic and flipped over several times, police said.
Spence was taken to a hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit. Police said they’re still investigating the cause of the crash, but they noted that the Ferrari was speeding at the time.
Last month, the former U.S. Olympian added the WBC welterweight title to his IBF strap with a thrilling split-decision victory over Shawn Porter in Los Angeles.
With his rangy athleticism and virtuosic skill, Spence (26-0) has captured fans with a series of crisp victories in recent years. He won the IBF title in 2017 by stopping Kell Brook in England, and he defended it three times, culminating in a one-sided thrashing of undersized Mikey Garcia in March.
His bout with the veteran brawler Porter (30-3-1) was Spence’s biggest test yet, and he emerged victorious from a fight that featured several wild exchanges of punches and had the Staples Center crowd of 16,702 on its feet throughout the 12th round, roaring for both fighters when they embraced after the final bell.

Sad to hear that, and I hope he makes a full recovery. He was very fortunate to have survived that horrible accident.
Seems amazing he would survive at all being thrown from a car that ended up looking like that, never mind making a full recovery.
Saw the crash, ugly, damn shame. Hope he ends up healthy to raise his daughters
I saw something that said he didn’t break any bones. That would be very nice if true
Crash looked pretty brutal glad he got out without a single broken bone ???. Man really needs to count his blessings and hope he makes a complete recovery.
Watched this about 100 times, still can't believe it. He must have been shot out the motor before this roll, right?
Check 1.15, a car flys by without stopping, like they were chasing him or something :D

He's definitely lost his no claims bonus.
Weird thing for me is that I was at work when I had a notification pop up on my phone telling me about this, at the time I was viewing dashcam footage in which the police were chasing our insured.
Our insureds vehicle rolled, he was thrown from the car and died instantly.
Spence is a fucking lucky lad.
THe thing I'm noticing and maybe the worrying thing is that there has been no official statement from his family or his team.
That's a never a good sign. All were hearing is secondary sources.
Did not having a seat belt on save him?
I think blind luck saved him. Or if there is a higher power picking and choosing who lives and dies then Errol is on his/her/it’s good side.
Really happy for him and his family
Boxing is a risky business and there's a bit of a thrill seeking adrenaline junkie part to the sport....that said there have been PLENTY of boxers ruined by their love of fast cars and motorcycles

There's the wreck....very lucky to be alive.
So not a huge surprise but he was drunk at the time of the crash. I’m a huge fan of Spence in the ring, but driving drunk is absolutely garbage. It puts innocent peoples lives in danger. I really hope that he can learn from this and get help.
It IS kind of ironic, isn't it. Spence at the very least should face the same penalties that would be levied on any citizen who recklessly endangers other human lives by driving drunk and flipping his car over multiple times.
Imagine that car goes careening into a crowd of people.
Pretty stupid thing to do and if Porter wasn't a wake up call this has to be. Lucky he didn't kill somebody and hope he doesn't have a bigger problem when the lights fade and the cameras go away. Screw your head on straight champ.
Errol Spence Jr. 'feels good' after car crash, eyes 2020 return
Errol Spence Jr., in his first public comments since a serious car accident in October, said that he feels good and is eyeing a return next year.
Spence, the IBF-WBC welterweight champion, lost control of his Ferrari on Oct. 10 in Dallas and the car rolled over several times. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and was not wearing a seatbelt. Despite that, he survived the incident with just minor injuries and no broken bones.
The 29-year-old said he could not comment on specifics due to the pending case, but called his fortune a “miracle from God.”
“Anybody else probably would have been killed,” Spence said on the Fox telecast during the Jermell Charlo-Tony Harrison card in Ontario, California on Saturday.
Spence said he has already been cleared to train and plans to be back in the ring next May or June. He said that doctors performed “all types of scans” on him and considered it a miracle.

“I can't explain it,” Spence said. “All I got to do is thank God that I'm here. I'm healthy, I can touch my kids and kiss them and I'm here with my mother and my father and I can give the fans what they've been wanting. They've been wanting me to come back and I'll definitely put on a great show when I do come back. The second time around I'm not gonna take anything for granted."
Spence ready for immediate challenger
Spence’s last fight was on Sept. 28, when he defeated Shawn Porter in a thriller to claim the WBC welterweight title, adding it to his IBF championship. He is an undefeated 26-0 in his career.
Spence claimed to be rejuvenated, and wants to jump right back into the ring against a top fighter such as Manny Pacquiao or Danny Garcia.
"I'm the top dog of the division," Spence said. "I am the king of the welterweight division. Those guys wish I wasn't back so fast but I am back and I want to fight the top names in the division.”

I watched his interview the other day. If you hadn't heard him speak before the injury you could easily say he seems like he hasn't recovered, but it also hasn't been very long at all since the accident, if he makes steady progress who knows. Would be quite a story if he doesn't take a tune up and really does go on to beat a top opponent next. Whether that's wise to attempt I would think definitely not, but what do I know.
No calling out Crawford of course. Would he ever do that?
He literally said “I want to fight the top names in the division, whether it’s Manny Pacquiao, whether it’s Terrance Crawford, whether it’s Danny Garcia”

Police footage emerges from night of Errol Spence car crash, loaded gun found at scene
Footage from police body-worn cameras has now emerged showing videos of Errol Spence’s car crash aftermath.
On October 10, the unified WBC & IBF welterweight world champion dramatically flipped his Ferrari in his hometown of Dallas, Texas.
He remarkably escaped without any broken bones and has since recovered significantly, recently reappearing in public to discuss the incident.
Now though, police bodycam footage has been published by TMZ, showing two clips from the night of the crash.
The first displays officers seeking a blood sample from those looking after Spence in hospital, while the second shows them finding a handgun at the scene of the accident.

It is understood that the blood sample was needed to test the boxer’s alcohol levels and he was subsequently charged with DWI (driving while intoxicated).
A police spokesperson has told TMZ that they could not link the firearm to the boxer and so he does not face any legal issues over the weapon.
