Good move to smash it stateside I reckon š
Makes a fight with Ramirez likely, though I reckon he will fight Saucedo first.
Top Rank lands another big fish, brings unified champion Josh Taylor to ESPN
Top Rank now has both of the winners from the most recent World Boxing Super Series under contract after inking super lightweight Josh Taylor to a promotional deal, bringing the unbeaten southpaw to the ESPN platform in the U.S.
Top Rank signed bantamweight winner Naoya Inoue to a promotional deal in November after Inoue defeated Nonito Donaire in Japan. Inoue was chosen as the 2019 Yahoo Sports Fighter of the Year and his bout with Donaire was chosen as the Yahoo Sports Fight of the Year.

Signing Taylor, the IBF-WBA 140-pound champion, is a big move for Top Rank in a number of ways. Top Rank has promoted WBC-WBO champion Jose Ramirez since he turned pro out of the 2012 Olympics and the signing provides a direct path for a unification fight between the two. Ramirez is scheduled to defend his titles in China next month against Victor Postol.
There is also a lucrative rematch with Regis Prograis that could be made. Taylor defeated the previously unbeaten Prograis in the finals of the WBSS.
Itās important for Top Rank as well in its battle with DAZN, the online streaming service which has used majority owner Len Blavatnikās huge checkbook to land a number of the sportās top fighters to its platform.
But Top Rank has five of Yahoo Sportsā Top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in the world under contract ā No. 2 Terence Crawford, No. 3 Vasiliy Lomachenko, No. 5 Inoue, No. 8 Artur Beterbiev and No. 9 Ramirez ā with Taylor just missing out.
Along with lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, that gives it a deep roster of major stars and/or elite boxers to put on ESPN and its streaming service, ESPN+.
āA new year, a new decade with lots of new beginnings, and Iām starting this new decade with a big bang,ā Taylor said. ā2019 was a huge year for me, but 2020 looks set to be even bigger and Iām delighted to have signed a deal with Top Rank and ESPN and an advisory contract with MTK Global. I believe I am with the best team to take my career to the next level. I couldn't ask for a better partnership, and I know the future looks bright with this team [leading] the way.ā

hopefully taylor continues to fight the best, i'd hate to see this move slow his momentum
That is a great get and a star guaranteed to only grow bigger.
I see that Barry is not happy and may start legal proceedings.
Taylor v Ramirez is a nailed on FOTY contender š
Hard to argue with where Cyclone have taken Taylor but there's a pattern forming here with the McGuigans (Barry I reckon). Hopefully he doesn't spend an extended amount of time out of the ring due to legal bollocks. Will be the end of Taylor and Shane though, that's the pattern.
This is a smart move. Will increase Taylor's fan base and exposure and open the door to big battles
Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez possible in late 2020 ā Bob Arum

Top Rank with some major recent signings, hopefully Postol doesn't upset the apple cart. No reason Taylor and Ramirez shouldn't fight by the years end, only questions are, will the sanctioning bodies get in the way and how many belts will make it to the fight?
loma moving up from lightweight to fight taylor is also another great fight
Barry seems to be going down the same road when he fell out with his promoter Eastwood.
Only now the shoe is on the other foot ! Frampton first now Taylor what's Barry doing I wonder he's had the fighters but lacks the money of Hearn Warren and Top Rank to really get the money Taylor wants.!
Been thinking. What are the chances we get Ramirez unification and Arum looks to aim Taylor at Crawford? If he wins of course. Keep thinking Crawford really is in desperate need of super fight and bringing in Taylor really does add Top Rank momentum either way.
Taylor is listed as 2 inches taller than Crawford ???. That floors me.
Most likely Crawford Spence happens before Crawford Taylor. That way if Spence wins Crawford has a route back to the top of the pound for pound list and whatever fights that brings by beating Taylor. Or maybe Arum just finds a way not to make the Spence fight and keeps everything in house for a change. :)
And McGuigan is just a small operator. He's good at finding champions for what is basically a one man band but can't compete with the big promoters when it comes to making big fights, guaranteeing them so many fights with big purses and so on. He's in court with Frampton soon to sort out their dispute if I remember correctly. I have a feeling he'll win too unless he's done some obviously crooked stuff but if that had been the case he'd be under investigation for it surely.
It's great to have the anticipation of big fights resulting directly from big fights. Put's some pressure on Arum too and no excuses with all being under the same roof. The Spence return is huge and tell much. Ramirez really has come into his own and has proven a class act.
Prograis vs Hooker are in talks for an April date. I like this fight. Prograis generally seems like a fighter that will fight anyone.

But running from McGuigan to Arum.. because the latter is more honest ?

I bet Eddie Hearn is big mad! The only champs he has from 130 lbs to 160 lbs are Tevin and Andrade, and if he can't get Andrade a big fight he may be down to one. He probably needed Josh to use him as bait to keep Devin Haney on board just in case he moved up to 140 lbs, but the Bobfather threw a BIG monkey wrench into that plan.
Now what's the plan going to be for Devin over at DA-ZASTER? Devin needs to jump off the Titantic now because I can see the iceberg approaching real fast. Come back to PBC Devin so you can join in this potential new lovefest between PBC and Top rank. 130-135 lbs - Devin, Tank, Commey, Teofomo, Loma, GRJ, LSC, Herring, Tagoe, Lamont Roach, Abner, Robert Easter jr, Oscar Valdez (sorry Tevin and Ryan). Lets go!

Josh Taylor: Shane McGuigan feels 'begrudged' by split from Scot
Josh Taylor's split from Cyclone Promotions was "a huge surprise and a killer blow", says the Scottish boxer's former trainer Shane McGuigan.
IBF and WBA super-lightweight champion Taylor, who had been with Cyclone since turning professional in 2015, signed with US outfit Top Rank this month.
Shane, son of Cyclone head Barry McGuigan, will no longer train the 29-year-old and says his exit rankles.
"I feel a bit begrudged by it all," he told Boxing Social.
"It was late December and I got a phone call saying Josh was asking to leave. It was a pretty big shock. I didn't see anything coming.

"As soon as I heard that, my heart sank. Mainly because of the effort and time that we had put in to Josh. I felt we had managed him and trained him impeccably - 16 fights unbeaten, unified world champion, Ring magazine champion.
"To find out like that was a blow. I'm annoyed that I've invested four-and-a-half years of my time and energy in someone who just doesn't deserve it."
Taylor's departure has soured relations with the stable where he made his name.
Cyclone insisted he had broken an "exclusive worldwide contract" with them, while the Prestonpans fighter responded by claiming the company's "various breaches of contract" enabled him to walk away for a multi-fight deal with Top Rank.
In the ring, their partnership culminated with Taylor's World Super Series final triumph over Regis Prograis in October, making him the unified IBF and WBA super-lightweight champion.
"We were in regular talks with JT about a multi-fight deal with Matchroom USA and DAZN and Sky," McGuigan added. "We were constructing something really big for him. Obviously he chose to do his own thing.
"If he'd been a year into his career, fine, no problem. And if he'd have called me and talked to me and everyone and done it the right way, then that would have been fine.
"I train fighters that aren't necessarily managed by my dad. But with Josh, dad had signed him from the start and has done an amazing job with him.
"It's not right to do it that way. I'm not going to continue to train him when he has done that to somebody so close to me. I just feel it's not fair for that person to be cut out."

Bit of a head scratch ol Bob bringing Taylor to the States and getting shutdown in first defense promotion wise ???. I don't quite get his big picture thinking, wonder if Ramirez in China falling out played a part. Khongsong looks like a big frame and a bit lackadaisical and he's in for a hard knock life with Taylor. Great 'best of' sparkage of tough Kondo to get here but he was eating single jabs and giving ground with no idea inside until he walked onto it.
Just watched a interview with Josh on YouTube boxing social of course he could not say to much about the split with Shane and Barry it will come out in the wash no doubt.!
Well just watched Shane Mcguigan interview he seems bitter on the split which is natural! but all in all he got paid I imagine he done all right out of JT great pity I like Shane and Josh.
