Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez set to face Israel Gonzalez on Oct. 23 in Mexico City
The legendary Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will headline an Oct. 23 triple-header in Mexico City that will feature four of the world’s best super flyweights.
Gonzalez (49-2, 41 KOs) will meet Israel Gonzalez (25-3, 11 KOs) for a version of the WBA super flyweight title in a card that will stream in the U.S. on DAZN.
Juan Francisco Estrada (40-3, 27 KOs) will defend the WBC super flyweight title against Carlos Cuadras (39-3-1, 27 KOs). And in a flyweight bout, Julio Cesar Martinez (16-1, 12 KOs) squares off against Maximino Flores (25-4-2, 17 KOs).
Chocolatito won the first 46 bouts of his career before losing a pair in 2017 to Sor Rungvisai. He’s rebounded with TKO victories over Moises Fuentes, Diomel Diocos and Khalid Yafai.
Chocolatito and Estrada will face each other in a rematch if they win their fights on Oct. 23. They met in a memorable 2012 slugfest for the WBA light flyweight title, which Gonzalez took by unanimous decision.
First, though, Estrada has to get past Cuadras, whom he defeated by decision in 2017.
“I am excited to return to the ring,” Estrada said. “It has been tough months for the whole world and we want to give a great show to all the fans of this sport. The first fight against Cuadras was a good fight, and without a doubt, this will be, too. Also, we are going to share the show, Chocolatito and I, and if everything goes well, we hope to see each other again soon.”

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
There is a bit of justice here, I felt Isreal Gonzalez did enough to beat Yafai. So getting a shot at the title now is fine with me.
Chocolatito although not prime anymore should still be able to handle this assignment.
Wins by Gonzalez and Estrada will hopefully lead to a rematch between the 2. Even after 8 years I would still like to see it.

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
I'll be rooting for Chocolatito, as I'm a big fan. Yes, he is past his prime but as you said @Alpha he should be up to the task.

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
This is a very solid card. Chocolatito looked throw back brilliant breaking apart Yafai last out. Both he and Estrada are pure pleasures to watch navigating a ring. Estrada v Cuadras not a bad rematch at all but ol Carlos wasn't looking so good prior to his odd wbc imposed alcohol 'suspension' before covid hit. Looking forward to these.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
So Cuadras and Maximo Flores both tests positive for covid ???. Julio C Martinez gets a new opponent in Moises Calleros. I really would hate to see them scrap Estrada fighting of all the fights :-X.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Trying to get this stream going but it drops literally every 5 minutes :p. All other apps and vids flowing nicely...but ol DAZN is just sitting there timing out after another refresh. And another. Annnnd one more :furious2:.

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
I didn't realise this was on, dazn Canada is working fine.
Looks like only two fights left but they're not bad...
I see tall git Pacheco was on earlier, I ll rewind and watch that later, can't miss Mikey Vargas and his awkward babbling.

people wrote gonzalez off too soon I think, big Wang sor rungvisai is a massive git and I think gonzo won the first fight, he did look bad in the rematch though.. Hes looked good sever since he got warmed up after a few rounds v the Mexican guy who just wanted to buy an uber car...

Totally agree, I was one of them :p. Granted Yafai isn't exactly p4p material but I was prying my big fat foot outta my mouth right off during that fight ;D. Hate to miss tonight but gonna try quick cache drop and clean up hoping it doesn't start to soon.

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
This is taking forever to start
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Gonzalez on the way to the ring now.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Smooth so far. That wide sweeping left Gonzalez is repeating is going to get him into some trouble.

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Pretty good second round, the mexican is strong and landing some good stuff but other gonzalez is starting to get into it too and getting good stuff in too... Mexican gonzalez is big and should be getting the better of. It damage wise... Good fight though.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Nice work from chocolatito in the 3rd round, he looked in control there but the Mexican gonzalez does look like he has power in the body punches, they could add up on the older guy as it goes on..
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Nice start to 3rd for Gonzalez when he throws in bunches but Chocolatito walks him back with that accurate volume and shines on ropes. Nice pace this one.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Gonzalez getting better of it in some of these exchanges, has shortened up inside and clipping Chocolatitio well to the body. Both guys warming to the mix ups but when Gonzalez gets along those ropes Chololatito shuts him down, just too many angles.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
I love these central American boxers, it really is a fight, its great to watch but probably not good for their health :S... Roman gonzalez is sort of taking control but Mexican gonzalez is getting some stuff in too and he looks bigger to me too, it could add up but chocolate should be winning thins from now on..
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
I don't think chocolatitofan is as quick as he used to be but he's pretty good at moving this guy around the ring and getting him on the ropes, he still has his brain functioning well.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Don't usually associate the word workmanlike with Chocolatito but full control in 9th. Gonzalez rips off a few combos and breaks through occasionally but so far might as well be throwing snowballs at a tank. Chocolatito on that body now
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Huh. Thought it was a better 10th for Gonzalez. Have to remember this is in Meeheco too. Sure the judges are on the up and up though :wisesmilie:.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Tale of two styles in Gonzalez. Does slightly better when throwing combos close than Sergio Mora giving him credit for, but on the ropes he might as well have his feet up beer in hand like riding a couch. He needs a punch he doesn't have into the final round, tough fight strong close for Chocolatito. Leaving nothing in the account.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Pretty good from little chocolate, Mexican gonzalez looks(to me) a bit bigger and stronger and other gonzalez handled him well and made him look pretty discouraged in the last few rounds... I don't think chocolatitofan is near the top of p4p lists anymore but he can still be the best in this division, he moved the enemy around the ring well and hit him from everywhere... Fun fight
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Very nice finish to a gritty one by both. Gonzalez came on for a solid minute, peppered him but missed more than a few. Chocolatitio counter 1-2 and a left to the gut visibly backed him off, mouth open.
Sorry but Mora is shatting on Gonzalez here. In with a great at this age he fought his arse off
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
118-110..116-112..117-111 for Chocolatito numero uno. Everything in line for Estrada rematch but let's see what Cuadras has to say.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
I didn't score the fight, from my estimations chocolatitofan won fairly comfortably but Mexican gonzalez had his moments too, especially in the first few rounds.. Made for good watching either way.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Just noticed all judges wearing headphones ???. Ear muffs whatever. But that's almost as iffy as a O'Conner looking at another form of device.

Well they are clearly worried about the deafening silence affecting their judging :S...

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Cuadras's back looks the same as ever
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
:o Oh Estrada dropped on his wallet by a crisp uppercut-left hook. He looked legit hurt end of 3rd and Cuadras all business. My stuff is running slooooow :p

Mosquitos have to be fierce down South eh. Wonder how he likes his steak.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Estrada has him rocked in 5th fighting on his front foot. Estradas corner right eye pretty muffed up. Helluva scrap
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Estrada doing damage in 6th, half pace and half punches and Cuadras visibly reeling around in spots. Strong round Estrada
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Fun fight, cuadras puts him down but Estrada starts taking control since then, both guys like to fight, got to like this, Estrada is winning but cuadras is getting in some good punches too...
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Brutal fight, Cuadras back in that last round. Network signal dropped twice :p. I feel like I'm back on dial up with a Toshiba tha size of a phone book. Jesus I just went double 'boomer' :D
oh shat Cuadras down hard in 11th.
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Oh dear, the ref really wants cuadras to survive here... He fell down pretty bad there...

Can't see through the pixels but his face is turning all 12th round Provodnikov
-
Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Oh good ref stopped it, good choice, the delayed fall by cuadras for the second knockdown was a bit worrying and he didn't fall the third time but he was mashed, a deserved stoppage... Fun fight, God bless the Mexicans for giving each other brain damage for our entertainment, great warriors...
I think Estrada will persevere over chocolatitofan in the unification fight, it'll be close but I think he has too. Much.

Maybe I'm wrong but the second knock down in that round was pretty bad, he hit him and then a second after the punch land he falls down hard.. And ref let's him go on.

Re: Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez v Israel Gonzalez
Chocolatito is just such a good boxer. He does everything so well. Even at a higher weight than his best and being old, he just does what he needs to to win.
Estrada was very impressive. Other than getting knocked down, he controlled the fight and stopped a good fighter and extremely tough fighter in Cuadras.
I’m super excited for the Chocolatito and Estrada rematch. I think Estrada takes it at this point but I can’t count Chocolatito out completely because he has proven that he is still a high level fighter. Both of them are probably top 10 p4p fighters.
