Emmanuel Rodriguez vs Reymart Gaballo, Dec 19, on Showtime

Most of the boxing action this weekend's gonna be on DAZN, with GGG fighting tonight and Canelo fighting tomorrow night.

But for those of us without DAZN, there's gonna a pretty good boxing card Saturday night on Showtime.


Title fight: Emmanuel Rodriguez vs. Reymart Gaballo, 12 rounds, for the vacant WBC interim bantamweight title

Jaron Ennis vs. Chris Van Heerden, 12 rounds, welterweights

Antonio Russell vs. Juan Carlos Payano, 10 rounds, bantamweights

Brandun Lee vs. Dakota Linger, 10 rounds, junior welterweights

I’m excited to see how Ennis does. The issue with the main event was that I was very interested in Donaire vs Ouballi. One Ouballi dropped out, I was interested in seeing Donaire vs Rodriguez. Now the main even completely changed and I’m not too excited. I’ll for sure watch, but it’s just not the fight I was hoping for

Absolutely. An undefeated Filipino fighter who can bang. Should be a good main event. The rest of the card doesn't look bad either.

Well I think the main event they ended up with is every bit as good as the main event that was. I'm excited to see Manny back in the ring.

This should be a pretty solid card I think Ennis is the real deal. looking forward to it. Tonight is pretty much the last live cards Stateside for a crap 2020. All in all you have to appreciate how different networks clawed back into big and not so big live fights for fans over last half of the year.

Yeah... looks like a solid card. And yes... I'm very appreciative of the networks' efforts to maintain fan interest with the different fights they've televised. Still one of the last DAZN holdouts... so of course I won't be seeing the Canelo fight but of course I'm looking forward to Manny's.

Gary Antonio Russell vs. Juan Carlos Payano coming up first. Hoping for three excellent fights. ;D

I’ve never seen this Russell fight. I don’t know how good he is.

They just said that his 26 year old brother suddenly died 9 days ago so that could definitely affect him. Payano is a solid and crafty fighter so we will see

Spirited 1st round. Both are southpaws. I think Russell's reach and good jab gave him the edge in Round 1.

Payano's overhand left is a bit slow and misses the mark most of the time. Lots of clinches and potential clashing of heads. Russell's round again, I feel.

Payano with the ballerina toe dip to slip the punch. That was interesting :-X. Real rough and tumble fight this early.

Now it just became a clinch fest. I gave the round to Payano... but it wasn't pretty and was fairly close. 2-1 Russell

Clinch fest continues. The ref is busy... but he needs to be a LOT busier. I gave this round to Payano also although I feel like I'm judging a wrestling competition.

Lots of mauling. Refs looking in only one direction after he lets it go for a bit. Solid 4th Payano minus the Greg The Hammer Valentine headlock.

Geez... what a mess. Bring on the octagon.... lose the boxing ring. Ref's useless. 3-2 Payano

Thought Payano edged 5th. One of the more really ugly but interesting fights ;D

So they FINALLY got into some exchanges and I thought Russell got the better of them. He seemed to slightly stagger Payano at the end. I see it 3-3... obviously not agreeing with the commentators, one of whom has it 5-zip for Russell.

Russell getting off real well. Rocked Payano at end. Wth Doctor stops it?

For a fight ending cut it's not exactly a faucet at all in the corner.

I agree. I've seen a lot worse cuts get waved on. I wonder if the lack of a crowd played into the stoppage. UD for Russell.

Yeh Felt insurance policy odd. Has his best round, gets him rocked and then ref and Doc talking about what cut might do rather than what it was doing. If anything like to see Russell build on that lead get clean tko maybe.

Ennis vs. Van Heerden up next. Hoping for a bit more punching and a bit less grappling in this one. Geez... I was expecting more out of the last fight... but what can you do.

He was being absolutely battered up until that hb. Shame another premature ending

Ennis was looking great in the first round and then a headbutt. His cut looks bad

DAMN! There's the faucet you were referring to, @Spicoli. Wow what a shame. Fight's over... but it wasn't even worth scoring it. Ennis was going to make short work of Van Heerden. Wasn't even going to go 4 rounds.

Concentrating on Ennis...... what are your thoughts? Undefeated up and coming welter. Is he a threat to the big 3 or 4? Nice to have another welterweight coming into the mix. Too bad this one ended this way.

That cut is huge. It’s like in the middle of his forehead too

The commentators are talking about feeling bad for Van Heerdan but I feel bad for Ennis. He could have stopped this fight in impressive fashion but got that taken away.

I think that Ennis is the real deal.

Place Ennis among Spence, Crawford, Pac, Thurman, Porter, and Danny.

It’s always hard to place a fighter like this among the top guys until he actually beats someone good.

Just watching his speed, movement, and power, I'd put his ceiling above Danny's, Thurman's, and Porter's already. Lotta things could happen... but right now that's what I see. I think he'll crack the top echelon of the division.

Main event coming up. Should be the best fight of the card by far.

1-0. Good round for Manny.

Rodriguez easily won that first round. He is obviously much better. The question is can Gaballo end up getting to Rodriguez? I would guess that Rodriguez will avoid Gaballo’s big shots and win by TKO

Another clear round for Rodriguez. Gaballo doesn’t have much for him.

Early but checks all the boxes so far. But you shine against who you're supposed to shine against too. Interesting about 140-147. Pbc takes some stick but they really do have another deep tier right around the corner to mix with. Lopez, Figueroa Jr, James, Ugas maybe Lipinets for Ennis before massive jump. Couple dozen starts never been beyond 6. One to watch fo sho.

Not much action in Round 3, but I have it 3-0 Manny.

Gaballo is going to be in trouble once Rodriguez starts throwing that right hand

Gaballo is having some moments but he isn’t really landing too much. Rodriguez isn’t landing a ton but he is landing sharper and better shots
