Don't get hit on it.
Yea that about it just don't get hit on it. That is about all that u can do man.
if you really want you can get some specialized headgear to help that out. probably never get tagged on the nose again. the problem is it gets pretty clunkly around the head becoming more of a helmet really.
come on guys... we all know that it is impossible not to get hit. We all will eventually take a hard shot to the nose maybe even break it. But how can we minimize the damage? Personally I'm thinking that Calcium will strengthen the cartilage in your nose.
well, its the bone that breaks not the cartilidge.
Just keep boxing... ;)
There no supliment or special nutrient that builds up nose strength.
Sad but true: Your face gets used togetting punched
look at all pro boxers, they have noses that could land a boeing 747 on, they are as wide as they are long.
After a few tags on the nose and getting it busted a few times you'll not be worrying about your appearance lol.
it comes with the sport, like broken legs in football or tennis elbow in.....errrr.....tennis? ;D :P
if your too afraid about getting tagged then your boxing training is going to suffer as you'll be too busy trying to clam up when the going gets tough.
This is probably a real urban myth, but when I boxed (amateur), I would never ever blow my nose (ie when I had a cold or anything). I was convinced that blowing my nose would weaken the blood vessels at the back of my nose and make me more susceptible to nosebleeds when I was fighting.
I have never had a nosebleed in my life, and I have been punched very hard very many times on the nose.
Not sure of any scientific basis to this, but it seemed to work for me
Ew... :p
I don't think there is any link between blowing mucus out of your nasal cavity and the strength of your cartilage and bone... ;)
Could be wrong of course...
Getting your nose broke is one of them things like having a good chin. It's either going to be prone to it or not. You will (hopefully) get better at avoiding getting hit but if it's weak there isn't much you can do about it.
You are both just annoyed because my Ill Mitch/Missy Book title was better than your ones (!!!)
Why did I know that you would react to AdamGB's baiting by posting something disagreeing with me? (Whoops just realised that you didn't, oh well)
Seriously - I don't really believe that there is any scientific basis for what I said above about my nose, but I really believed it at the time.
It isn't a good idea to blow your nose when its bleeding- or soI've been told. I was superstitious that way too; never blow my nose while in the gym or in the parking lot or on the way there...
never had a bloody nose, had punches and headbutts...no blood.
Its been broken once (via the headbutt) but i just felt a dull thud.
blow your nose, i wouldnt want to spar a guy wiping his nose with his glove mid round :P
That's a fair comment, and if had a nosebleed I would have got rid of the blood. I just never did and (possibly mistakenly) attributed this to the fact that I never blew my nose.Quote:

if you were to push the tip of my nose it bends and folds all over the show, my ex used to laugh at this lol.
I say a big nose is a bit of an arse as it will soon be hammered flat sooner or later.
All pro boxers have flat noses if you look at photos

what causes the bulbous look of boxer's noses? are they simply flattened and have spread out?
I wish I had never said this now - it is quite disgusting nowadays that I am older and more 'mature' and refined.Quote:

Ew!!!
lol. I would imagine that it would be annoying to box with a stuffy nose.
:) cause it is, also increases the chance of a broken jaw if you have to open your mouth to breathe.
Plus if your noise is full of shite your probably ill... :P
Well - it worked for me anyway.
Don't want to argue the science any more
Sulk sulk sulk
get a lump of clay, model it into a nose shape then hit it a dozen times lol.Quote:

once i fell flat on my face on a hard floor and i mean flat i swung on a crossbar in football and ended up parallel to the ground b4 my hands sliped off and bang it bled like a fucker but still didnt break and other than tht its never bled from a punch, headbut or kick lol
