Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Kell Brook rates Avanesyan so let's see if Kelly is potentially World level.
Kelly has superfast hands and throws punches from all angles and is great to watch if you've not seen him yet.
Brook told Sky Sports about Avanesyan: "I've sparred with the guy and he's a real handful. You can give him some big licks but he keeps coming and he adjusts.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
its good the boxing is starting up again
im looking forward to this one much more than the josh warrington fight on saturday
It definitely will be a good win for Kelly, if i'm dubious about anything with him going further its his power
hopefully this fight is the fight he really shows he has some

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Johnny Nelson said after the Warrington fight that Avanesyan busted up Kell Brooks ribs a few years ago in sparring.
Big test for Kelly this one.

Any indicator on a solid start time for this one tomorrow? Could be a real slept on must see scrap. It is baffling how little ranking Kelly has regardless of time off etc. Highest I can see is #15 by a single Alphabet group. That's just insane.

Maybe lack of fights and the draw on the record? There's a decent crop in the welters and a good numbr of unbeatens so not really a surprise. He might well be top 20, but he doesn't have the record to support that.

Will 100% start in London between 9.30pm - 10pm
No idea what part of the USA you are though
Got gut feeling Avanesyan is gonna walk straight through Kelly and bang him out.
Avanesyans last 3 performances imo are far better than Kelly's have been and he looks solid.
Kelly might have to box and move to win this.
Could be a Warrington outcome of he stands and trades.
We don't know enough about what Kellys really made of yet which makes this fight intriguing.

I know you rate him highly as I do, he's got all the talent and natural skills you could wish for and is a top prospect but let's not blow too much smoke up his asshole just yet 😁
For me that chin of his is totally untested and the Russian will 100% test it tonight.
If he can take a genuine hard shot he's on his way.
For me though Kelly is wide open for a beating 👊🏻😉

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Wondering if Valenzuela took a flight over with Lara from last week. Gave Davies Jr a beating that last round. Glad the judges got it right.

Josh wins first round fast hands and good accuracy against Avanesyan.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Avanesyan wobbled with a left hook in the 2nd round but fighting back now seems to have cut Kelly.
2 nil Josh

Although Kelly is winnig these rounds they are close and hard work. Avanesyan giving Kelly a hard time.

He could do with Mick Williamson in his corner.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Bloody 4th round this is hard for Josh but still winning for me.

Kelly leaves his chin hanging out too much.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Josh slowing down and fighting more in the 5th which may be bad for him. Avanesyan is constantly pressuring Josh.

Fuck me, I was just gonna post the longer it goes, the more Ava comes into it, then bang!

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Avanesyan stops Kelly in the 6th who looked shattered and battered.
-
Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Great stamina from Avanesyan and great advice from his corner to keep on Kelly.
I’m pissed off because I was pretty big on Kelly.
But Stamina seemed an issue. Benn will start saying he’s got the game to beat Kelly, but I still don’t think he’s in Kelly’s class.
-
Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Open now? TF. Fun while it lasted there Avanesyan came on like gangbusters.

Wow good work from the soviet, wasn't expecting that at all.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Simple over matched Avanesyan way to seasoned for Kelly Josh was over hyped bad matching by Hearn again.
-
Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Basically Josh Kelly is an over rated glamour pussy 🤣
No way he's going to anywhere near world level.
European level and upward, you can have all the skills in the world but it ALWAYS ALWAYS.. comes down to 2 factors,
You either have a granite chin or you can punch like a motherfucker.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
I wouldn't mind seeing Avanesyan again - well schooled pressure fighter, he just wasn't taking no for an answer.
Once upon a time British boxing was criticised for importing opponents to pad the UK fighters resumé.
Eddie's sacrifcing prospects like its not even a thing, he must really believe Joshua beats Fury :o

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
That didn't go according to the script, again!
Great to see Avanesyan so happy at the post fight. Very likeable guy!
That was a good card!!
Going for a nap now before Berchelt-Valdez

Eddie is not having the best of times with his fighters at the moment. Lost last week and now again with his other Josh.
Avanesyan could be a world champion on that form maybe for Wba title?
-
Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Avanesyan won’t trouble Crawford or Spence.
Josh kelly is talented but he should had x5 more fights before this one.
All that hands down low guard flashy stuff looks good against weaker fighters, but it wasn’t going to win him the fight against experience.

That's for sure Master, though one thing that was addressed was the judging tonight.
Valenzuela vs Davis Jr was pretty competitive and some rounds were close so I was happy it to see it scored justifiably.
Actually, I really enjoyed the undercard tonight.
I'm not saying it was anything spectacular, all undercard should be of this calibre... But I just found the fights pretty compelling.
Yeah Avanesyan has potential for sure.
I don't see Hearn going for a rematch here, so yeah the WBA route would be a nice idea.

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
A lot of people saying this was bad matchmaking or Avanesyan has got potential, but unlike last week, I’m not sure this was bad matchmaking.
This fight has been on and off for a good 2 years, so Kelly’s team clearly thought he was ready. And everybody has been saying he had the best camp and was in the shape of his life. So maybe it’s just a reality check.
I hope Kelly and his team learn from this and make the improvements needed because I really thought he was going to be special.
As for Avanesyan having potential, he’s a 32 year old ex World Champion that 5 years ago beat Shane Moseley.
Now we can say Moseley was past it, but he doesn’t go into any ring to be someone’s patsy.
So even to be of the standard to get in the ring with Moseley means you have something about you.

Actually this was good match making.
Lots of fighters put up empty records at 20-0 and then expect to be paid like a world level fighter (here's looking at your PBC fighters). Hearn is not like that. He'll overpay relative to other promoters but he has less patience than others. That's why other than Joshua, Hearn doesn't have a single multi-year or 5+ fight contract with any fighter.
Hearn gives more financial reward for a shorter period but the fighter better hold up his side of the bargain (i.e. that the fighter generates enough money for Matchroom to make a profit)
If Josh Kelly was a PBC fighter, he wouldn’t step up until he was 25-0. Hearn want to find if you're good enough or not and he wants to know quick. There are pro's and con's to this but that's the matchroom model.
As to the fight ? When I see a young British fighter using the shoulder roll, specially in round one, I'm like...Hmmm... Poor fellow! Kelly needs a change of style, that shoulder Roll Sh^t STOP IT! Not even Mayweather stayed in the Shoulder Roll for the entire fight.

Too much flashy crap, not enough solid basics and stamina. All that hands down crap is discouraged for a reason. Very few fighters have the reflexes and eyes to get away with it against top class opposition. Kelly should go down level and fight a Ted Cheeseman or Anthony Fowler or maybe even a faded Kell Brook or Amir Khan would be a good name to have on his record

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
if only id have gone with my gut instinct and put on some bets this weekend
i was sure valdez would win and right before the fight i was looking at odds on kelly getting knocked out
to be fair to the betting instinct gods id have probably gone for 8-10

Re: Kelly v Avanesyan - EBU Welterweight title - 20/2/21 SKY/DAZN
Tough loss that. Even when Kelly was having success he still looked like he was getting beaten up. Reddening up around the face, unlucky with the two cuts. All added to the overall picture that he was being busted up and drowned at some stage. Strange 5th round (I think) where he tried to impose his size and strength on Avanesyan and push him around. It worked, but he threw next to no punches so Avanesyan just went with it and allowed it.
Great job by Avanesyan and his team. Quality operator and a simple game plan executed perfectly. Drown him, don't let him breath. Eventually Kelly broke.
