How would you like the HWs to play out now?
So many scenarios out there...
Some say Fury should fight Usyk next. Some say Joshua and Wilder are done. No one knows what Fury will do next. Obviously, no more Wilder fights are necessary.
So here's one take.
I agree with @mikeod that Fury vs Usyk would be a dreadfully awkward and not fan-friendly fight. I've seen enough of Fury in the past that this is certainly a distinct possibility. Should Joshua get a Usyk rematch next? Probably not. The consensus is he'd lose just as badly. A second loss to Usyk would certainly jeopardize Joshua's future as a boxing draw.
I don't claim to have the best answer... but somewhere in there I think the public would love to have a Wilder-Joshua fight. Yeah, they've both been beaten, taking the luster the fight would've had if it had taken place before the 1st Fury-Wilder fight. But why should either of them retire just yet? Wilder has only been beaten by one man. Joshua by two, but he avenged one of his losses.
The styles of Wilder and Joshua would make for a great fight. Sure, they're both damaged goods. But one could surmise that from that fight, the victor could look toward greater things, while the loser would surely be one step closer to retirement. Usyk of course, has earned his right to dance with the big boys. But his lack of size in this current age of behemoths doesn't bode well for him. Call me crazy (please)... but a well-focused, "head-on-straight" Wilder would very likely take out Usyk within the distance. People like to rag on Wilder's lack of boxing skill, because let's face it... first impressions are hard to erase. But Wilder HAS taken some steps in the right direction since his Atomic Windmill days. He IS trainable, IMHO.
Fury will probably retire at some point before the current crop of big, dangerous heavyweights get around to where they can challenge for the title. So what does that do for his legacy?
I'm sorry to say this... but other than his great trilogy with the dangerous Wilder (who nobody wanted to face)... his resume becomes pretty thin rather quickly. Wladimir? Please. That wasn't so much a boxing match as it was a psychological contest, which Fury won hands down. The worst heavyweight title fight in history.
But let's say Fury defeats Usyk... then Joshua fights Wilder and comes out victorious. Ahhhh.... THEN, Fury could face Joshua and have the chance to defeat another championship caliber fighter convincingly. That would certainly help Fury's legacy. Odds are it'll never happen, though.

Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
I want an undisputed heavyweight champion and the quickest and most seamless way that will be achieved is if Usyk/AJ winner faces Fury/Whyte.
Whyte has to beat Wallin.
I do not think Fury will retire but he does not strike me as someone who is interested in defending his title against mandatories.
Wilder in the meantime can face Ruiz or Parker/Chisora to finally learn some boxing and stay busy.
-
Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
Fury will want to get undisputed then maybe call it a day.
Usyk his only real challenge left but think that would be fairly easy night for him. Wilder was his danger man because of the punch. Usyk can't hurt him.
-
Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
If I've learned anything through watching Usyk and Fury rise to the cream of the crop it's do not dismiss them and pick against them. I cannot see Wilder walking through Usyk and actually think Usyk would be a more accurate sharp short-circuiting type punching threat than Fury in some ways v Wilder. To me aesthetics and styles aside Fury and Usyk have very much arrived at the point of needing to sort it out between them. Both Joshua and Wilder have some inner and outer things to sort out within themselves before anyone one else. Wilder is on a six month medical suspension and to me he needs to get back his power is all dominance tower by dispatching a couple of decent though beatable top 10 or 15 types when he before stepping right in to another glaring all eyes stage. He's confident yes but let's face it he's not reinventing himself at this age. So go forth fresh come next May and get a mini streak going, as much for the fans as his own grey matter. Chisora, Ruiz if he's up or even..don't laugh..a resurgent Helenius. Likewise with AJ but differently as I honestly cannot even say he still has the mentality to step into the fire as he'll need to do with Usyk rematch should it happen, let alone anyone else. He went to war with Wlad in a fight where Wlad brought the war too. But real talk he hasn't been eye opening impressive in 3 years. I think if he goes for Wilder right off it will set up the glairing need to one up Fury who basically holds three winds over him. They both have to reboot and shine up the push again. Do it for best chance of a successful tail end career run. There's also a rotund fella named Trevor Bryan calling himself a wba world champ out there so if AJ or Wilder want to do the fans a solid they can start by stamping him out.

I keep forgetting about Ruiz.
Has he got anything scheduled.

Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
I think Joe Joyce smashes all but Fury and Usyk. Everyone else is avoiding him.

Joyce would destroy Wilder, overwhelm Whyte, stop Ruiz, too big for Parker and Chisora is nothing to him.

Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
AJ can beat Usyk in 6 rounds if his stamina can last in a fight.
AJ has lost the fighting edge since Ruiz and he’s mentally fragile under fire.
It’s his last chance if he wants that undisputed fight with Fury post Whyte.

Haven't seen a full fight of Joyce, but I've seen enough. He's easy to hit with either hand... and doesn't exactly have blazing hand speed himself.
A fully recovered and focused Wilder crushes him. Fury would toy with him. The rest I'm not too sure about.

Joyce chin is solid and Wilder will never recover from the losses to Fury. Cannot see Wilder keep Joyce off him but think Joyce will not get the chance to show how good he is. He is left in limbo at the moment.

I think a hell of a lot is being made of his win against a totally overrated Dubois. I have to admit, he was better than I thought. He must have serious power to cause the damage he did to Dubois just with pawing jabs. But it is a good jab, he does have good stamina, but there’s no getting away from the fact he is a plodder.
He could beat Wilder, most could, I don’t see Ruiz as a top HW till he gets in some shape, Parker would probably beat him on points, and Chisora is not a top HW.
But he could lose to any of Bakole, Ajagba, Sanchez, Wallin, Makhmudov or Gassiev. Maybe even Tony Yoka. Why not?

An undisputed match up is what we the fans deserve.
And that's exactly why boxing won't allow us to get it.

Tyson Fury identifies Joe Joyce as big threat in heavyweight division

Tyson Fury has tipped Joe Joyce to be a future heavyweight world champion, according to promotor Frank Warren.
Joyce is undefeated in 13 fights and could be in line for a title shot as the WBO’s mandatory challenger. Champion Oleksandr Usyk is set to defend his belts in a rematch against Anthony Joshua early next year which would force Joyce to have to wait for his opportunity.
The 36-year-old is coming off a knockout win over the previously unbeaten British heavyweight Daniel Dubois and a stoppage of veteran Carlos Takam in July, and WBC champion Fury has identified the ‘Juggernaut’ as a future threat in the division.
“Tyson said that he’s the best one out there,” promoter Warren told Sky Sports. “That’s what Tyson’s opinion was.
“Can he go all the way? Yes he can. He’s got good ticker, a big heart. He’s strong, he walks forwards, he is the ‘Juggernaut’.
“Him and Usyk would be a great fight. He could hurt Usyk, he's a big man. Could he beat Usyk? Yes. He fancies it and I fancy it.”
Fury is yet to announce his next fight following his knockout victory over heavyweight rival Deontay Wilder last weekend.
The WBC champion could face challenger Dillian Whyte if the London fighter beats Otto Wallin later this month, but the ‘Gypsy King’ has hinted at retirement after questioning the “need” to fight following his title defence in Las Vegas.

Of course he has. ;) I said as much before the Tyson-Wilder fight... and I wouldn't expect anything different.

I'd say Wilder. Fury's too unstable with his actions and his career. He's liable to just retire and go into either acting or wrestling. You also never know about his emotional state. For that alone, I think a Wilder victory would be better for the division, short-term. It would keep things moving.... titles being united... etc.
Either way... I'm looking forward to Saturday night.
Of course he's got no "need."
He can retire any time he wants.
But if he truly wants to be considered an ATG... I'm afraid he's going to need more than a trilogy with Wilder and a sh*tty victory over "Timid Wlad" on his resume.
-
Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
Fury does play the retirement card too much. He does need to beat more than Wlad and Wilder to be considered the best of this generation. I think he will do it and become the undisputed champion.

Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury may not be for undisputed - even with Oleksandr Usyk rematch win
The winner of Joshua's rematch with Usyk looks set to face Fury late next year, but may be forced to vacate the WBA strap with Robert Helenius looking to enforce his status as mandatory challenger for the 'super' belt.
Any potential showdown next year between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua may be a belt down with the WBA set to call Robert Helenius as mandatory challenger.
For the pair to meet Joshua must first progress beyond an uphill task against Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch early next year.
And Fury could be subject to a mandatory challenge from Dillian Whyte with the WBC set to rule on his interim champion status.
But any potential all-British fight between Fury and Joshua could be hindered further with Helenius next in the queue to receive his mandatory shot.
The Finnish heavyweight plans to act on his status according to his promoter Markus Sundman after he earned his title in an eliminator victory.
Sundman told Sky Sports : "Right now we are focused on the WBA mandatory position. Usyk should really be Robert's next bout.
"Robert fought a WBA elimination bout in March 2020 against Adam Kownacki, and he placed a stamp on that victory in the rematch on October 9.
"In the end, of course we have respect for [president] Gilberto [Mendoza] and the WBA, and we think that ultimately they will do the correct thing and formally order Robert as the next mandatory.
"We will do what is necessary to assure Robert's rightful position as Usyk's next WBA mandatory. The WBA mandatory is due next, and that must be Robert."
Joshua will need a much improved performance to stand a chance against Usyk who was oozing with class in a punch-perfect display last month.
Although the Briton currently faces a search for a new trainer in America and has drawn up a three-trainer shortlist for the resounding task.
Joshua has been backed by Lawrence Okolie to employ Fury's style during his rematch with Wilder to try and regain his unified world titles next year.
"He was in there with a world class fighter, a generational talent," Okolie told the Daily Mail. "It’s not just a case of you doing this and that happens.
"There’s another person in there trying to prevent that and knock you out. There’s stuff AJ can do to try and change the way the fight looks and feels, and I think he will.
"But in terms of his performance, he tried his best and it wasn’t good enough on the day. You have to just say Usyk was great that night and AJ has to work on certain things to beat that style.
"As you saw with Fury and Wilder, Wilder is an exceptional fighter, an exceptional puncher. But Fury decided, you know what, I’m 277-pounds and I’m going to let you know it. He pushed him back, he rallied through the hard rounds, ground him down and got the stoppage. I believe AJ can do something similar."
Fury is fresh off the back of an astonishing victory over Deontay Wilder and climbed off the canvas twice in a historic trilogy battle.
But he has hinted at retirement despite facing the prospect of a domestic return against Joshua's Matchroom stablemate Whyte.

Whyte does not have to face Wallin so is free to face Fury as his mandatory. Smart move.

So are we saying Dillian Whyte can pull out of a fight, and then fight for a World title instead? Fucks sake.

Yeah , and he had a chance of a shot against AJ and turned it down because the money wasn’t right. Can’t have it both ways.
He signed a contract to fight Wallin, HE pulled out with an injury. Therefore Wallin should fight for the title , and Whyte fight the winner next fight when he’s fit.
Why should Wallin be penalised for Whyte getting injured? Oh yeah, cos 1. He ain’t British & 2. He ain’t a big name.

So Wallin should get a title shot off the back of Whytes hard work? That makes no sense at all.
When Wallin beats top ranked opponents then he can have a case for being hard done by but until then get busy. He was offered an opponent to take the place of Whyte and he turned it down.

Wallin got his shot at Whyte because of his hard work. It’s not his fault that Whyte is injured. So now the whole division has to wait for Whyte to get fit do they ? Now that don’t make sense!

No life moves on and no one has to wait. Whyte is still the mandatory for Fury and he was taking this fight to stay busy and relevant. He does not have to face Wallin to get to Fury.
Wallin should move on.
-
Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
Wait... what?... Wallin?... title shot?
Is he ranked? By anybody?
The only reason I know of Wallin is because Tyson Fury dredged him up in that awful stretch of nondescript opponents in between Wilder fights.
Wallin "deserves" a title shot because... he was scheduled to fight Dillian Whyte and Whyte pulled out due to injury... so now Wallin gets a title shot??
What about the dozen-plus actually ranked fighters waiting in line hoping for a title shot?
TBH, I don't recognize any of the 20 fighters on Wallin's resume before he fought Fury.
Not an expert on who should get a shot at whom and when. But I'm pretty sure Wallin isn't the first name that comes to mind when I think heavyweight title fights at this point in time.

I agree, like options became illegal so should rematch clauses which are normally inserted in by the A side fighter and only applies if they lose.

100% . There should only be a rematch if there was any doubt or controversy in the first fight. Everybody putting Fury at #1, and probably rightly so. But all he’s done is beat the same guy 3 times .
If that guy is crap, it doesn’t prove a lot. What if Wilder were to start losing to everyone? Does that diminish Fury’s ranking?

TBH, I don't mind rematch clauses... but like everything else they can be misused and abused. What you just mentioned about clauses that only apply if the A-side fighter loses... that one that should be thrown out the window. A B-side fighter that accepts something like that is out to lunch.
Personally, I'm glad we had Fury-Wilder III.

Yes it would. But I would bet that won't happen. A focused, more experienced Wilder... even having experienced two bad losses... would most likely not "start losing to everyone." Especially surveying what is the HW landscape today. Wilder would still take 90% of them out.
I see your point though, about Fury only having beaten the same guy 3 times. I've complained about this regarding Fury's resume. It's definitely not enough to warrant ATG talk.

Fury has to beat AJ and possibly Whyte to be considered the best of this generation.

You serious ?
I think Fury has already proved it but there'll be demand for a Usyk fight after Joshua rematch - barring an unlikely AJ result reversal.
Don't really see Whyte fitting into the picture in proving the best himself the best of this era

I was assuming AJ wins the rematch. If he does not then Fury does not need AJ except for a final retiring money fight.
The biggest motivation for Fury is to become undisputed champion. The winner of AJ/Usyk will do that.
Wilder is not enough to count as the best of this generation. Wilder is a poor technical champion.
Whyte has fought and beaten the rest so a victory over him would count a lot more than the other fighters on Fury record outside of Wlad/Wilder.
-
Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
Winner of AJ Usyk - likely Usyk- then he doesn't need to do anything else for me.
Only one out there to beat him is himself.
Wilder was his danger.

deontay has weak skills & a weak record. tyson won most of the rounds in the first fight. dominated deontay in the second fight. the third fight diminished tyson's ranking in my view. deontay had no defense & nothing left after a few rounds

Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
Andy Ruiz Jr eyeing up Tyson Fury fight as he reveals plans for January ring return
Andy Ruiz Jr has set his sights on Tyson Fury and the rest of the world’s top heavyweights as he looks towards a return to the ring.
The Mexican is weighing up his options for a January fight, with his original target of Adam Kownacki now looking unlikely after back-to-back defeats for the Polish fighter.
Ruiz though has insisted he has plenty of options for his next bout, and is eyeing up some of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.
The 32-year-old name-checked Fury, Deontay Wilder, Oleksandr Usyk and Dillian Whyte when speaking about his options on the Last Stand Podcast, as well as suggesting a trilogy fight with Anthony Joshua.
"We're still looking but the door is open and there's so many opportunities right now," Ruiz said.
And following on from Fury's knockout of Wilder in Las Vegas, Ruiz is backing himself to come out on top against the Bronze Bomber.
On the possibility of fighting Wilder, Ruiz said: "Yes I do, and I think that would be an amazing fight, me against Deontay Wilder.
"We're both part of the same team, and it's just business.
"I wouldn't mind getting in the ring with him, I'm sure I could beat him."
Ruiz is unlikely to land a major heavyweight bout anytime soon, with the WBC set to order Fury to take on the mandatory challenge of Whyte, while Joshua and Usyk will face off in a rematch in the spring.
And having laboured to victory against Chris Arreola in May in his first fight since his defeat to Joshua at the end of 2019, Ruiz may well have to take on other opponents before getting another shot at a potential title fight.

Re: How would you like the HWs to play out now?
I don't think it would be in Wilder's best interests to face an Andy Ruiz fresh off his KTFO defeat at the hands of Fury. Wilder needs a "get back into it" fight first.
Ruiz right now would present a problem for anyone (save Fury), unless he shows up to a fight again approaching 300 pounds.
