Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Munguia getting another showcase type fight tonight. Not sure what the holdup is with Oscar letting this kid wear some big boy pants and finally stepping up but this isn't it. Munguia has shown some improvement sure but he also just swerved aka ducked at least 2 much more qualified fighters in Zhanibek and Carlos Adames to wind up facing fairly unknown unproven Kelly out of the U.K.
40-0 should he win tonight and without slagging too hard it's a test to name 3 of his biggest names. Rosado? Spike O' Sullivan and Liam Smith? Dennis Hogan maybe...and Kelly lost to Liam and Hogan :-X

Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
I don't have DAZN, but that should be fairly entertaining. Munguia rarely gives spectators a boring fight.
Meanwhile, I'll be watching Edgar Berlanga over on ESPN.
I'm not too high on Berlanga, nor was I making too big of a fuss when he was amassing all those 1st round KOs.
I think a much bigger potential star from P.R. is Xander Zayas... and have high hopes for him.
Hopefully Berlanga has come off his Cloud 9 fantasyland of being able to knock out everyone he sees. The last fight wasn't too impressive.

Great minds think alike ;D just said the same. Really hope Zayas heals up quick and get's back in. Kid was genuinely crushed in the video he released announcing fight cancellation.

Damn... yeah. I just saw the vid myself. Xander was tearfully apologizing to everybody for not being able to fight. Seems he caught some viral infection or something.
Ah.. don't be too rough on yourself, Xander. We'll get 'em next time. :)

Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Mark Bernaldez 20-5 v 22-1-1 Oscar Duarte..Jr Welters in co main.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Duarte really punches off of the frame well, straight and hard and doesn't neglect the body. Had Bernaldez buzzed in the 1st.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Smart thinking puncher is Duarte and keeps a high guard. Bernaldez getting put into corners now and being touched up! Hurt again to body in 3rd
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Bernaldez having a decent start to 4th more committed punching but by second half he's back along ropes and soaking up body shots. Guy has a solid chin and apparently ribs too. Ohhh massive combo rakes Bernaldez in the corner but stays upright. Up and downstairs by Duarte.

Hopefully for Moby's sake Jaimie doesn't break his glass or he won't be able to see :S
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Duarte absolutely unloading in 5th and ref getting closer. Guy punches like a Spence as far as putting power combos together but varying them. Not all turned over well though and no not a Spence of course ;D. Corner needs to watch out for their man he's sponging up damage
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Bernaldez has some yard dog in him for sure. Trying to answer right back in 6th. Duarte taking a little breather here bit slowed. Late surge at the bell for Duarte. Bernaldez had a semi decent round up to that point.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Oh couple of lowish digs to beltline of Bernaldez and ref ignores them. Bernaldez having a mini resurgence wonder where the gas tank of Duarte is at. He's def off the gas a bit and more choppy with shots. Can make a case Bernaldez took last two rounds but he's in a huge hole this late.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Stabbing jabs beginning of 8th from Duarte snaps head of Bernaldez. Bernaldez hung up on ropes and Duarte goes hard head and body almost goes between ropes and ref waves it off. Eh bit odd timing for me but see it, he had managed to reset and steady. Left to gut to end that combo froze him too and Duarte cleaned up. Nice little scrap
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Didn't even realize they made this a catchweight :vd:. Says a lot and bit pointless. The rehydration when this starts will be nutso. So another young middle leaving 160 before they fully arrive. Never assume blowouts but feels like Kelly is merely a bug on the windshield early.
Nice final 10 for Buthelezi who passed from injuries this week. End of that fight was some rough stuff. Just punching into the ring post, very scary
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
"165 lbs" :mwink:. Ok Mr. ring announcer whatever you say. Munguia just warming his food in 1st. Kelly needs a bat
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
;D Kelly snaps Munguia back in 2nd with a three piece. Munguia caught looking sluggish
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Jimmy Kelly 2nd :thinking2:. Even tagged Munguia again at rounds end. Munguia seriously looks slow and sloppy. This weight man..he's unmotivated
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Ref warns Kelly for fook knows what.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Munguia harder on the front foot and letting them go last minute of 3rd finally. Kelly slipping and sticking clean shots back but he felt one of those. Into the 4th round...
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Kelly is a shifty scratch n sniff type guy. Keeps moving but controlled and ffs..he's sharpshooting Munguia here in 4th. Picks his spot and gets the f out! Munguia needs to get his head out of his arse. Best round for Kelly.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Munguia lands behind the head in a crouch and Kelly steps in headlocks him and uppercuts him back :-X. Ref warns both but hey. Oh Kelly gets dropped hard in 5th
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Kelly dropped 3 times in 5th..last in corner was Munguia raining punches half behind head ffs and Kelly goes down. Munguia meh
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Calls out Charlo while going in another direction division wise. Just need to see something meaningful from Munguia, they're talking like this was a statement fight ffs. I think Charlo has way too much for him.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
Munguia is fun to watch but he shouldn't mention Charlo, they should just cash him out v Alvarez, i don't think he's beating a real champ.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
jamie looked terrible before the knockout
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
The scheduled 12-round super middleweight fight started off slow as Kelly maintained his distance and waited for Munguia to attack, a strategy he continued throughout the fight. Happy to be the aggressor, Munguia - a former world champion at 154lbs - landed strong power punches as Kelly tried and often failed to counter. By the fifth round, Kelly, desperate, began a display of holding; Munguia attacked, dropping him three times to be declared the winner by knock-out at the 2:57 marker.
"It was difficult in the beginning since he's a slippery, tough fighter, and he could take a punch," said Jaime Munguia. "He was trying to do his plan of attack, but I had to do my thing and work the body. My mentality was that I was losing the first three rounds. So I had to follow my plan of slowing him down by attacking the body.
"I figured out that I had to work through the middle and throw punches like the uppercut. I think it was the punch that I knocked him down with." Munguia continued: "I think this fight helped me out a lot. I'm ready to go back to 160 to fight for a world title or move to 168. "I'm ready for any challenge. There are a lot of people who are supporting me.
I want to say what Oscar said for Charlo to grow some balls and stop hiding behind Haymon. I think it would be great for boxing. We hope that by the end of the year we can get a big fight." "My strategy was to move and try to frustrate him," said Jimmy Kelly. "He's a strong, patient fighter. But, he just stayed calm and found the opportunity. It was my daughter's birthday and I missed it which broke my heart. I thought I would win but now I have to go back and explain why I lost."
Duarte overcomes test
The pride of Chihuahua, Oscar Duarte (23-1-1, 18 KOs), returned to fight in the US for the first time since 2019 against Mark "Machete" Bernaldez (23-6, 17 KOs) of Cotabato, the Philippines. The 10-round co-main event was a crowd pleaser as fighters willingly exchanged blows.
However, Duarte proved to have more power as he knocked out Bernaldez at 2:05 of the fifth round. "It was a tougher fight than I expected," said Oscar Duarte. "I followed my team's plan and got the results I was looking for. My opponent was very resilient, he took a lot of my shots but I stopped him in the end. I look forward to fighting more this year. Thank you to everyone who supported me." IBF minimumweight world champion Yokasta "Yoka" Valle (25-2, 9 KOs) of San Jose, Costa Rica, successfully defended her world title for the fifth time in spectacular fashion when she defeated Los Angeles' Lorraine Villalobos (5-4, 2 KOs).
Valle was relentless the 10-round fight winning all rounds with three scores of (100-90) via unanimous decision. "I feel very excited to be defending my title in my US debut on the great platform DAZN," said Yokasta Valle. "Thank you to everyone that supported me; I'm representing all Latinos tonight. [The fight] was last minute for me as well, but like a true champion, you have to be ready. "What I've always said is that I want to fight against all the other champions. I want to unify even if it's against Seniesa [Estrada]. I want to fight all the champions."
Carlos Ortiz (13-5, 13 KOs) of Torreon, Mexico, put on a great performance and scored an upset victory against Evan Sanchez (11-1, 6 KOs) of Parlier, CA. The fighters went toe-to-toe in their 8-round super welterweight event, but the fight didn't go the distance. The fighters were exchanging blows when Sanchez got caught and Ortiz put the pressure on, dropping Sanchez on the canvas and ending the fight at the 2:59 marker; winning the fight via knock-out. "I feel extremely happy and proud of my team," said Carlos Ortiz.
"I never imagined winning that way. I have no words to explain how happy I am. I'm not going to retire, I'm going to continue. My plan was to be smart, get in the inside and make sure I take him to the ropes. He would throw a hook, I would throw mine and that's how I got him. "I knew he was courageous and I knew he was going to go toe-to-toe with me but I was the stronger fighter tonight. Thank you! I will be here for a while. Long live Mexico!"

Duarte looked slow and cumbersome who I can see a top class fighter easily out boxing him.

Munguia should be embarrassed with that performance and for calling out Charlo. His trainer, the great, Eric Morales should kick his ass for turning up unmotivated and walk away from him.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
The Charlo call out is the same fake call out a few Golden Boy protected fighters are doing. Asking for shared platforms, no way the networks agree. But his protected fighters can say “I asked for the fight” and continue being protected. Oscar learned too much from Bob.
At least PBC will make fights and Matchroom

He made 2 million for that CW set up. Think we've answered why he and Oscar refuse to sack up and face a viable decent challenger.

Giving all indicators he's going up 168. Hey get paid, but he has one of the thinnest records for someone 40-0. Avoids the big fights definitely doesn't make them. Winner of Canelo v Golovkin maybe? At least a Plant ;D

jaime is weak, i thought he already lost to dennis hogan, i think ideally if canelo v ggg three wasn't happening next, jaime would be cashed out against one of them. can they hold it all together until they win the lottery?

Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
That some nice Pesos for munguia, no wonder they've kept feeding him these guys,l he's fun to watch so I wouldn't really care if he went on like this until the end of his career but surely once he goes up to 168, it's going to be really hard to find a minor belt and then even challengers on someone like yildirims level(underpowered guys who make him look good)... A whipping from Alvarez could be on his way fairly soon.
-
Re: Jaime Munguia v Jimmy Kelly on DAZN
I have an idea.
Maybe Mungia and JJC Jr. could meet at some catchweight and beat each other senseless.
I'm sure it'd make for good theater.
