Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Was seriously looking forward to Xander Zayas in the co main but he was forced to withdraw due to a viral infection. So Berlanga who is getting some guff after looking subpar in last couple and labeled a major hype train now is the whole show. I'm not ready to write him off just think the promotion went over the edge with all the KO KO KO KO talk and along the way Berlanga fell into line thinking it was all that mattered. They've done it backwards with him and now he has to learn on the job vs slightly capable recent opponents. Angulo tonight is a respectable step here in that he's been in with a few top dogs, losing 12 to Zurdo Rameriez and suffering a 10th round tko to David Benavidez. Also took a close decision W over undefeated Anthony Sims Jr. So, a good measuring stick of a sort for Berlanga and really like to see him box a little bit rather than swing for the fences.
Time wise this is airing really late, maybe 11-Midnight here. Guess they're trying to get behind the Ufc ppv :-X.

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Thanks for the separate thread, Spicoli. :)
Yeah... I'd like not to write Berlanga off just yet. Kinda reminds me of the start Juan Manual Lopez had to his career. String of impressive, quick knockouts... then he ran into Orlando Salido.... TWICE.

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Lebron getting after Lebron now. Really turning it up
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
So the co-feature is a spirited scrap.
I predict it'll be won by Lebrón, the Puerto Rican fighter. The one in the blue trunks. ;D ;D
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Lebron was moving and firing off combos but the pressure from Lebron has gotten to Lebron. Can Lebron make it to the bell? I’ve got Lebron with the lead, but will the judges see it for Lebron instead?

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Didn’t really watch these ESPN cards until recently, what is with these huuuuge breaks between fights?
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN

Yeah. It's not like the previous fight ended in the 2nd round or something like that.

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
And no 40-year-old man should walk around still answering to "Timmy".

It's a terrible shit trend now. Everything has to be fake "ppv massive". They stretched the Haney and Sparta George fella card to ridiculous heights. Feel like I'm watching MtV Spring Break with the crowd shots.
Makes you miss FNF cards ;D

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Angulo looks a bit chunky in there. Firing some good right hands, though. I think he got Berlanga's attention with one of them. Should be interesting.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Angulo's got deceptively quick hands and a good straight right hand, obviously his strongest punch. I hope Berlanga adapts.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Sounds odd but Angulo with the more jarring stuff in close. Berlanga checks the overhead clock. Oh nice close by Berlanga, he stood him still with that combo. Berlanga fighting smart but giving up room too

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Berlanga nose just went south ?
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Berlanga bloodied. Seems like Angulo's right uppercut could be a danger to Edgar. Berlanga's gonna have get some respect from Angulo.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
This is a tough fight here. Angulo has some Samuel Peter Merqui Sosa style happening. Crude but crafty hard. Berlanga backed to corners all on backfoot and his lip and nose are leaking :o. Good fight
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
That right shook him. He just gets caught way too clean
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Hmm... Berlanga's gonna have to land something of substance pretty soon. Angulo gaining confidence by the minute and keeping the pressure on.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
I hope Angulo realizes he might not get a decision win in NYC.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Have this around 4-2 Angulo. Berlanga being smart but physically Angulo is owning it and controlling the real estate...he BIT him WTF ??? :o
what the hell was that dirty twat
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Thats when replay needs to come in and dock points. Berlanga went full vampire on the man.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Yeah... Berlanga losing the fight on my card. But Angulo making a major mistake by not pressing the action more. He has to know Berlanga's not gonna lose a decision in New York.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
I think Angulo's gonna get screwed on the cards.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Angulo fought like a guy who knows he could kick Berlanga's ass but already accepted the pay off to lose.
Berlanga acts like a bitch after the final bell.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
97-93 Angulo for me. Berlanga went between two extremes :cwm13:. Full fledge bulldozer to this prevent defense watch the clock. Give him cred for keeping the legs and adjusting style but Angulo bullied him stayed in his chest and hurt
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Wow... the scorecards were even sh*ttier than I thought.

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Dude. I mean that's not ever screwed. That's fucking prison raped. 91x91 twice
This is why numbers in boxing lie like no others. Criminal

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Hometown decision... no doubt. I don't rate Berlanga at all by now. I think he's reached his ceiling, and will soon be eclipsed by the total package, Xander Zayas, as the island's premier prospect.
Angulo deserved the decision, but man..... how many times do fighters have to be told not to leave it up to the judges??
Did Angulo really think he was going to get the nod?
His corner should be flogged if they didn't ram it into Angulo's head that he had to go for the knockout.
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
He is crap and should get disqualified when the governing body see the bite .
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
edgar seems to regress each fight
-
Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
Judges should be suspended, Berlanga should be suspended

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
BOXER Edgar Berlanga is set for a hefty $10,000 fine and a six-month ban after biting Alexis Angulo.
The Brooklyn-based star, 25, attempted the chomp during his super middleweight showdown against Angulo at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
He would go on to win the bout by unanimous decision and extend his unbeaten record to 20-0.
But Berlanga looks set for an extended period away from the ring and $10k out of pocket following his moment of madness.
The seventh-round incident - which was missed by the referee - was picked up by TV cameras as the pair did battle in New York.
And after the bout, Berlanga admitted that he tried to "do a Mike Tyson" on his opponent - but only because Angulo was allegedly using his elbows.
He told ESPN: "He was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him.
"He kept throwing his elbows and pushing it out. I didn't want to get cut."
Berlanga's excuse doesn't appear to have gone down well with the New York State Athletic Commission.
He's reportedly been slapped with a fine of $10,000 and a six month fighting ban.
Berlanga apologized for his actions on fight night but will not be eligible to return to the ring until December.
He wrote on Twitter: "I want to apologize for my actions and what I said yesterday about the Mike Tyson bite.
"I was in the moment and I got a little ahead of myself. It doesn’t take away from the embarrassment that I have caused upon myself, my team, [Top Rank], and many others.
“I reacted poorly and take full responsibility.
"Moving forward, I am going to be more mindful and encouraging in my behavior. Once again, I do apologize."
Although his attempted bite failed to make proper contact on his opponents ear, Berlanga's actions drew criticism from across the boxing world.
Promoter Lou DiBella wrote on Twitter: "If you bite your opponent like you’re a rabid dog you should be disqualified."
And trainer Teddy Atlas commented: "Berlanga’s record is more impressive than his fighting. I’m going back to UFC fights."

Re: Edgar Berlanga v Roamer Alexis Angulo ESPN
If I criticized the 6-month ban on Canelo when he took Clenbuterol, it's only fair that I do the same with Berlanga's 6-month suspension for attempting to bite Angulo.
This sh*t has no place in boxing. It was a dirty, low-down thing to do. If the other guy's throwing elbows, complain to the ref... or maybe even throw a couple of your own, just to get your point across. But biting the opponent is a bitch move.
Six months is a slap on the wrist. It's the time it takes nowadays between fights for most boxers anyway... so it's not really like he's gonna miss any significant action.
That being said, Berlanga is going nowhere. He had his moment in the sun... and the record of 1st round knockouts, in retrospect, didn't help him any.
To me, he's done as a headliner.
