What should Usyk do next?
Oleksandr Usyk wants 'three more fights' before retiring, including heavyweight unification bout with Tyson Fury.
Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk says he wants "three more fights" before retiring, including a heavyweight unification bout with Britain's Tyson Fury.
Usyk, 35, retained his WBA (Super), WBO and IBF titles against Anthony Joshua last month while Fury has the WBC belt.
He also wants a lucrative "freak" fight with super-middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez before ending his career at Kyiv's Olimpiyskiy Stadium.
"I only need to beat Fury and then it is time to retire for me," he said.
Usyk called out Fury after beating Joshua for a second time before Fury's promoter Frank Warren said the fight "will be made".
But earlier this month Fury, 34, offered Joshua the chance to fight for his title later this year and the 32-year-old has now "accepted all terms" for an all-British bout on 3 December.
"The unification of all the belts is much more important than just a fight or another defence," Usyk said in an interview on his YouTube page.
"I want to outbox Fury and I don't want to work that much just for another defence. There's much more than that and I can achieve it."
'Canelo' Alvarez claimed a dominant points win over Gennady Golovkin last weekend to settle their trilogy with a second win for the Mexican, 32, after a controversial draw in his first bout with the Kazakh.
"I can have three more fights at the very most," Usyk added.
"It is the most realistic to be in my top form. With Fury, Canelo and a farewell fight at Olimpiyskiy.
"With Canelo he said that he wanted to fight me. It would be a freak fight just for the sake of earning money."

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Anthony Joshua's sparring partner Frazer Clarke has backed Joe Joyce to beat WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk following his brilliant 11th round KO win over Joseph Parker.
The win means Joyce is now the WBO interim heavyweight champion and mandatory challenger for Usyk and the 37-year-old made it clear that is the fight he wants next. "Usyk, let's get it on," said Joyce in his post-fight speech.
And Clarke believes Joyce has what it takes to beat Usyk, telling iD Boxing: "You know what? I'm going to regret this. I think he beats Usyk you know.
"I think he does. Usyk would do a little bit better than Parker because he's a bit more cuter. But 12 rounds I think Joyce beats him now, I really do.
"I think he loses a lot of rounds, I think he loses a lot of rounds, but I think it'd be similar to that. Everyone slows down, no matter how good you are, if you're a heavyweight you slow down.
"Even the man over there Fury, he does so much moving and he slows down, it's just the way it goes. We're big men. So yeah, big up Joe Joyce, over the moon for him."
Joyce faced Usyk in an amateur bout at York Hall in 2013 and was outpointed by the Ukrainian. However, the Juggernaut is confident he has improved enough to beat Usyk if the pair were to fight again now.
"I think if it had gone a few more rounds I think I could have done something in the fight," Joyce told the Mirror when asked about the 2013 fight. "I was landing shots and I was well in the fight but he was just a bit more slick and cute with his shots.
"I also feel like I could have had better preparation with southpaw sparring and things leading up to the fight, but we have both come a long way. And I feel with Ismael Salas coming up with the game plan and setting the techniques for me to work on, I think he can come up with something for me to beat Usyk now."

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Oleksandr Usyk has declared that he is open to fighting Joe Joyce but only after he has squared off with Tyson Fury. The Juggernaut called out Usyk following his eleventh-round stoppage victory over Joseph Parker on Saturday night.
With that win, he has secured his mandatory status for Usyk's WBO title and could be next in line to face the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. The Ukrainian can be ordered to face Joyce at any time by the sanctioning body but is set on getting the undisputed clash with Fury over the line first.
Talking about the possibility of facing Joyce, Usyk told Parimatch: "I can probably do it. But after Fury."

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Usyk has revealed that he would be open to a third clash but only if it is staged in the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv. “If Fury doesn’t agree I think we could try to have another fight," Usyk told Parimatch when discussing a potential third fight with Joshua.
We already had a match in London and in Saudi Arabia as well, so the next one could be at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv. He has powerful potential for his development, but he just needs to get rid of people who prevent him progressing. These extra people around him who want to give the best piece of advice, who all want to share his success, he just doesn’t need them. He has to think about his team. But above all he is such a great guy and I wish him good luck.”
And Usyk believes that Joshua struggled to defeat him due to his "one-punch" gameplan, which left the Ukrainian able to regain control in the final rounds. "He was really well-trained," Usyk said. "But for some reason he focused on delivering one heavy punch.
"During the ninth round he had successful combinations and I admit I didn't manage to dodge some of them. Yes, he was better prepared for the rematch if we compare it with the first bout."

I think Usyk will want to face someone easier like the US fighters Wilder or Ruiz. Especially since he said he wanted to face Canelo.

i also think deontay & andy are easier for oleksandr than juggernaut joe & deontay is probably the bigger fight. i just think joe is the bigger challenge

Hanging onto little sound bites like “wanting to fight Canelo” to try to discredit Usyk. He said he wanted Fury first and then Canelo would be for shits, giggles and money. He wanted to clean out the division first and take care of business.
What’s your hero Fury’s reason for bottling Joshua and wanting to fight Charr?

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Deontay Wilder has made a bizarre attempt to call out three of the top heavyweight boxers.
The American, who hasn't fought since back-to-back defeats to Tyson Fury, has targeted Fury, Antony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk after claiming he is still a 'big fish' in the division.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilder said he expects to fight Fury a fourth time, challenged Oleksandr Usyk to offer him a title shot and criticised Joshua's stamina.
'I think that there's definitely a chance of a fourth fight [with Fury],' he said. 'Boxing is a business. Many people call it a sport but it's not a sport.
'The heavyweight division is very small. I'm still a big fish in the business, especially here in America. As long as we're all in the same division and all still currently fighting, why not? It only can lead to that. With all that being said, it's definitely a possibility.'
'I just think Joshua was very cautious in what he did as far as exchanging punches [with Usyk],' Wilder said. 'I always forever said it, as I see it he has a big stamina problem.
'I think if he can correct that, you will see a different Joshua. You won't see one that's so hesitant to throw punches and do things especially when he was close to getting him [Usyk] out of there.
'I think he was just a little fearful of running out of gas too quick and too fast and he held back a little bit.'
The heavyweight champion has however since made it clear he has no intention of fighting Wilder, claiming he wants to face Fury and Canelo Alvarez before retiring in his home country.
'I hold Usyk to be a man of his word,' Wilder said.
'If Usyk's saying he wants to give me an opportunity for the titles then that's what I'm holding his word to.
'I always tell people that I don't look past fighters but I do look through them, there's nothing wrong with that, being confident in yourself and looking ahead.'

I was actually discrediting the US fighters not Usyk.
Fury offered AJ the contest after Usyk said he would not be ready to fight. He is the next best available contender. If it is not agreed then both are to blame.

Joshua has no blame whatsoever. All he has said was he accepts. He hasn’t shouted his mouth off and if Fury, the promoters and the TV companies can’t sort it , that’s not on AJ.
It’s on Fury because he was the one saying HE Was offering AJ the opportunity.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
"After I get rid of Tyson Fury, I'm going to talk to Wilder," said Usyk to ESNEWS when told that yesterday was Wilder's 37th birthday.
It now appears that, should Usyk defeat Fury, he will face Wilder in his next fight. He has already defeated Anthony Joshua on two occasions and the American may be deemed the next step.
However, one of the sanctioning bodies could order Usyk to make a mandatory defence of one of his belts against a chosen challenger, so Wilder could be left waiting. The 37-year-old could be a frustrating matchup for Usyk thanks to his 6'7" frame.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Oleksandr Usyk is eager to agree an undisputed clash against Tyson Fury before March next year.
After successfully defending his IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight titles against Anthony Joshua in August, the undefeated Ukrainian insisted he would not rush back into the ring, ending hopes of the Fury fight taking place before the end of the year.
But a shot at the WBC heavyweight title to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis remains his top priority.
Talks are underway between both camps but Usyk insists a fight must take place before 4 March or wait until later in the year.
‘Right now my team is seeking conversations with Tyson Fury, and he is really an unpredictable person, so we can’t guarantee when,’ Usyk said at Web Summit in Lisbon.
‘For me, the idea would be to fight maybe early February or the beginning of March, like March 4, because I am an orthodox Christian.
‘During the great fasting before Easter I do not fight, so it should be all before or then after orthodox Easter (April 16).
‘I want to fight with Fury because I need the fourth belt, and I don’t want to fight with anyone else until I have the fourth belt.’
February had been suggested as a possible date for Fury vs Usyk, with the former set to defend his belt against Derek Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 3 December.
Usyk returned to Ukraine following the Russian invasion in February this year to enlist in defence forces, temporarily delaying his rematch with Joshua.
The former cruiserweight king would like to bring the Fury fight back to his homeland, but admits Saudi Arabia is a more likely destination.
‘The organisers are trying to figure out where they can earn more money. For me, yes, I would really like to fight in Ukraine. The country is really capable of hosting this kind of fight.
‘I would be really happy to see it happen in the Olympic Arena in Ukraine. But it is not me who chooses the venue, so I guess it will (this time) be Saudi Arabia.’

Re: What should Usyk do next?
I wouldn't even venture to guess as to what Usyk or any of these guys should do next.
One thing for sure is that the merry-go-round that is heavyweight talk, nego- (cough) "negotiations", posturing, and calling out of others... will put a glaze over anybody's eyes.
But let's look at the champ and top contenders (at least as far as The Ring is concerned), and see what they're saying today:
Joshua has said he wants: Dillian Whyte (whom he knocked out in 2015), plus the fearsome Otto Wallin and the household name Filip Hrgovic. No mention of Wilder or Fury.
Usyk has said he wants Fury and then Wilder, although it is reported that instead of Wilder he would probably be forced to face a mandatory.
Wilder has said he wants: Fury (forget it, Deontay), Joshua, and Usyk.
Fury is off to face Chisora, who he's already beaten twice... is a retread... and has 12 losses to his record. After that it's anybody's guess.
Side note: Fury gets pissed off when his upcoming slaughter of Chisora is called a mismatch. Of course he does. Hell... Fury's got one foot out the door of boxing anyway.
So what does all of this mean, other than we'll probably never get the fights we want?
I like Usyk and Wilder's attitudes (other than Wilder wanting Fury again :vd: ). Let's go get it, and dispense with the nonsense.

When did Joshua say he wants Whyte, Wallin or Hrgovic? I’ve seen Whyte mentioned just because he’s probably one of the biggest names that’s available.
No mention of Fury? Fury offered him the fight, Joshua agreed to everything, Fury started putting deadlines in , the fight never got made. JOSHUA WAS THE ONLY BLAMELESS PERSON IN THE WHOLE FIASCO.
No mention of Wilder? In the last 2 weeks, all I’ve heard from Hearn is that he’s been in contact with Finkel and Finkel is dragging his heels replying. And when he does , it’s very negative.
We must read different sources I suppose.

We must.
Quoted an article from The Sun. They may or may not be reputable, who knows.
I stand by my point about the heavyweights being more a soap opera than a boxing division. Too much blah blah blah... very little action. Particularly at the top 4 or 5 level.

Yeah, @TitoFan had already pointed out his source and I liked it .
ok , he's said the names of the people who are available and who people are making out to be relevant in the division. he didn't mention :
Fury - why would he? been there , done that , everyone knows who that fight not getting made is down to.
Joyce - is Joyce available? if so, then yes that would be a good fight to make because he's flavour of the month at the minute.
Wilder - It has been made clear SO MANY TIMES that they don't want the fight , and Eddie has been on record in the last couple of weeks saying he's contacted Shelley Finkel about the fight. Again, if they don't want it , they don't want it .
My Burning question is , why is it ALWAYS down to AJ to make the fights , offer the purses, yadda yadda yadda ? He's not even a World Champion ffs.
If Joshua had made a fight with Chisora , or someone of his level , even though he's not World Champ, he would've been completely ridiculed, and rightly so!
but someone else gets away with it................
-
Re: What should Usyk do next?
Fury is rightly getting a lot of stick for facing Chisora.
You have said yourself that it works in Eddie's interest for AJ not to face Fury so soon after back to back losses.
Joyce is dangerous for both Fury and AJ but sure Warren would not want him to face his own fighter and much prefer him to beat his rival's top fighter.
Wilder will probably want to face Ruiz before AJ.
AJ is the money fighter so everyone wants to face him.
-
Re: What should Usyk do next?
team tyson were happy to outline feb/ mar for oleksandr, they were also saying they didn't won't to fight aj on dec seventeen because they were looking at oleksandr in feb/ mar. tyson was also talking shit about a fighter not being able to be ready in three months, he'll have three months before the march fourth deadline

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Warren will not allow 2 of his top heavyweights to fight one another he will try and get Fury v AJ in summer and Joyce v Wilder/ Whyte /Ruiz anyone except Dubois.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Fury will not fight in December and then again in February/March. And that part isn’t a dig, it’s just fact. No top HW or any other weight to be fair would fight that regularly. But it’s just the bullshit element that makes me laugh.
Why even say it if there’s no chance of it happening?
Talk is cheap.

I bet you Fury faces Usyk in February/March because he wants to retire as undisputed champion and this is the best chance to do it.

I bet they don’t fight in February/March. I wouldn’t believe everything you hear from team Fury.
Giving purses, to the homeless , eating dodgy wild boar, £10k donation to charity, negotiations with AJ going to the wire before realising he was legally bound to fight Wilder. Then more negotiations with Joshua only to not happen again.
Retirement, non retirement, yadda yadda yadda.
More bullshit than Valencia Bull ring!

Heavyweight Anthony Joshua says he wants to fight 'good opponents' like Otto Wallin and Dillian Whyte
"I like fighting good opponents," Joshua told DAZN. "Yeah, I'll fight Otto. Yeah, I'll fight Dillian. I'll fight Hrgovic."

Yeah, @
TitoFan had already pointed out his source and I liked it .
ok , he's said the names of the people who are available and who people are making out to be relevant in the division. he didn't mention :
You make some good points. It SHOULDN'T be only up to Joshua to make the big fights. Again... I'm not dumping on Joshua. Why indeed... would he mention Fury? Fury is only the most unpredictable fighter on the planet in terms of what he's going to do next. In fact, I'm convinced Fury enjoys toying with the fans and the media. He likes to keep 'em guessing. About the only thing I give Fury credit for is stepping into the middle of the Wilder-Joshua negotiations back then, and fighting Wilder himself.
I think our only point of disagreement is on Joshua and Wilder. Not that I can claim any inside information any more than the next guy... but I would have to genuinely ask why on Earth would Wilder "duck" Joshua, if that's what's being implied. Wilder thus far hasn't shown he's the "ducking" type. Not saying Joshua is either, but for some reason that fight hasn't happened yet, and to me... that's the white elephant in the room. It would be a hell of a fight, regardless of the fact that both have already suffered knockout losses.
I'm not a Wilder fan per se... but I do stick up for the guy when he continues to get dumped on. Sure... he started his career with a conga line of bums. Sure... his technique has always left a lot to be desired. Sure... he (used to) talk a lot of shit about dead bodies and crap like that. But he's gradually changed a lot of these things (opponents have gotten better... he's made an honest effort to improve his techniques... he's a little more quiet nowadays). He tried Fury three times and failed. Give him credit for that. Fury's not easy for anybody.
In a nutshell. Wilder's lost twice to Fury. Joshua's lost twice to Usyk. I say, hell... let's just get it on.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Tyson Fury's plans to fight Oleksandr Usyk have been thrown into disarray after Filip Hrgovic's team announced that he will challenge the Ukrainian next.
Fury had hoped to finalise an undisputed world heavyweight title fight early in 2023, but the IBF have ordered Usyk to make a mandatory title defence against Hrgovic, according to the Croatian's promoter Kalle Sauerland.
Hrgovic climbed off the canvas to defeat Zhilei Zhang on points in a final IBF title eliminator on the undercard of Usyk's rematch win over Anthony Joshua in August.
Sauerland tweeted: "CONFIRMED: El Animal @Filip_Hrgovic is next for @usykaa for the Heavyweight Championship - by official order of the @IBFUSBAboxing. Let's get the show on the road."
Usyk confirmed this month that he was holding talks about defending his WBA, IBF and WBO titles against WBC champion Fury.
The British star is currently preparing for a WBC title defence against Derek Chisora on December 3.
"Right now my team is seeking conversations with Tyson Fury, and he is really an unpredictable person, so we can't guarantee when," Usyk had said.
"For me, the idea would be to fight maybe early February or the beginning of March, like March 4, because I am an orthodox Christian.
"During the great fasting before Easter I do not fight, so it should be all before or then after orthodox Easter (April 16).
"I want to fight with Fury because I need the fourth belt, and I don't want to fight with anyone else until I have the fourth belt."
Fury's US promoter, Bob Arum, had also told Sky Sports that he intended to reach an agreement for an Usyk fight.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Lightning does strike twice. This is exactly the situation Fury was in which fucked the Wlad rematch.
I know a lot of people are crying about it, but at the end of the day Hearn has a job to do. And that job is to get Joshua a fight against the winner of Hergovic Ruiz for the title Hergovic a shot at the title.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Krassyuk insists that Usyk won't have to make that decision and will instead box Fury next with all-four belts on the line.
"At this stage, I can anticipate that it will not influence the undisputed anyhow," he told Sky Sports. "We expect his next fight to be for the undisputed so most likely it will take place in the Middle East."
Usyk was in preliminary discussions with Fury's US promoter Bob Arum for a date around February or March next year. Arum revealed that talks had been positive but that he wouldn't be securing a date until after Fury's next fight against Derek Chisora on December 3.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
It's no wonder the ibf always have 'vacant' literally ranked in the top 5 in most divisions :-X. They just don't want the wbc having all the shine after ordering a buffet of matches. But I think this goes the way a few of the ones ordered go and that's by the wayside. Be it by strip-vacate or step aside clearing the way for Fury. If he doesn't retire 24 times by next spring.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Whatever Usyk does, I sure as hell hope it doesn't involve Canelo. STOP giving this guy so much unwarranted importance. We already saw how he fared against Bivol. 'Nough said. Let Canelo concentrate on the white elephant in the 168-pound room... namely Benavidez. Usyk has fared well as a heavyweight. Let him continue his campaign undistracted.

Re: What should Usyk do next?
Sulaiman told Sky Sports: "There has been real interest in having Fury against Usyk take place, that would be a great possibility and then the winner would have to fight the WBC mandatory once that is confirmed."
"The WBC has been extremely supportive of unification bouts," Sulaiman explained.
"We supported back then Wilder against Joshua, it didn't happen. Then we supported when the time could be for Fury against Joshua again and then we support Fury against Usyk.
"If it happens it will be a tremendous fight for the world and the WBC is supportive of that as long as the rights of the mandatory contender are not infringed. So the timing right now looks very good for that to happen."
"We did a tournament with Ruiz fighting [Luis] Ortiz, Ruiz won, with Wilder fighting [Robert] Helenius, Wilder won. Now they will both meet to determine the mandatory contender of the WBC heavyweight division," Sulaiman said.
"It's a very promising and a very interesting scenario in the heavyweights with so many fights that can be done."
It means that should Wilder win, he would put himself on course for a fourth fight with Fury.
"Wilder, he was world champion of the WBC for five years, very dominating. He has the highest knockout percentage, his last outing was very impressive with a one-punch knockout, a dramatic punch," Sulaiman said.
"Ruiz has a great following. He made the world stage when he defeated Joshua by knockout and he's a fighter that you can never rule out.
"So that fight should prove to be a great, great match and then a very solid mandatory contender for the WBC."

I think Usyk vs Joyce could be a massively fun fight.

Agreed and I may be in the minority but think Joyce can beat Usyk over 12 rounds.
