Troy Williamson v Josh Kelly 2/12/22 Chanel 5 Free boxing!

It’s title time on the Tyne, with the epic North-East battle for the British Super Welterweight Championship confirmed between Darlington’s Troy Williamson (19-0-1, 14KOs) and Sunderland’s Josh Kelly (12-1-1, 7 KOs) at the Utilita Arena, Newcastle on Friday December 2, live on Channel 5.

Kelly expressed his desire to compete for Williamson’s Lonsdale belt as the two came face-to-face in July after ‘PBK’ beat Lucas Bastida to claim the WBO International Super Welterweight Title on July 30 at Newcastle’s Vertu Arena.

With the champion equally keen to get the fight on, Williamson since added a win of his own to his undefeated record as he stopped David Benitez in the sixth round on September 17 at the University of Bolton Stadium live on Channel 5.

“We’re two fighters flying the flag for the North East, but only one of us holds that British title,” said Williamson. “Every fight is going to be a tough fight at this level, especially when belts are on the line.

“I’m the champ, I’m undefeated, and I don’t think there’s anything he can throw at me that’ll stop my reign as Super Welterweight king as I move on to bigger and better things. One thing is for sure, and that’s fireworks.”

“This is set to be one of the North-East’s biggest fights in recent memory, and you can see exactly why,” said Kelly.

“Troy is British Champion for a reason and he’s obviously a good fighter. However, he’s just another obstacle in the way of me achieving what I’m destined to achieve, and he’ll be taken care of on December 2.”

After producing a stoppage win over Ted Cheeseman to become the British Champion in October of last year, Williamson has since defended his title against Mason Cartwright to set up this hugely anticipated clash against Kelly.

“The last time we ventured to the North-East, the people clearly showed their passion and love for boxing,” said Wasserman’s Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland.

“This time it is on another level as we bring one of the most hotly anticipated domestic dust-ups available. Two of the North-East’s own battling it out to boast the title of Britain’s best. Newcastle is about to host one of its biggest nights in the sport, and I cannot wait to be in the arena for an electric atmosphere come fight night.”

very difficult fight to pick. both guys have the ability to beat the other. i think josh will prove the better

What was Williamson doing near 170 last out? If anything, in big picture he's coming down for this but admittadley have not seen Kelly in 2 years and he looked a bit labored.

i think either josh wins a decision or troy ends it late

Josh wins the first round with fast explosive punches from all angles. Williamson rocked and sluggish.

Better second round for Troy putting better pressure on Kelly. Hopefully tiring him out.

Kelly back in control in the 3rd landing good uppercuts and he is not tiring.

I have it 2-1 Kelly but the second could have gone either way.

Kelly fighting the whole fight with his hands down and relaxed. He is fighting at his own pace but Williamson lands the best punch of the 4th round with a big right hand.

Will he get tired?

Kelly rocks Williamson in the 5th with fast big sharp punches. Quality boxing from Josh making Troy look slow and pedestrian.

He's playing right into Kelly's hands chasing as he is.

Williamson hasn't invested in the body either, so going into the last 6 you'd imagine Kelly should have enough in the tank ro keep his nose clean.

Love watching Josh Kelly, but will he have the power to keep these guys off down the stretch?

Williamson wants to take Kelly head off with his power punches but he is not landing enough.

Josh stealing rests now and Williamson getting closer in the 8th round.

Williamson becoming frustrated, letting a few foul shots go in close.

This is the most impressed I've been with Kelly in quite some time.

Williamson needs a knock out to win and he is trying desperately in the 9th round. Josh still super confident and landing the better eye catching punches.

Kelly fast hands and quick foot work making Williamson look slow in the 10th he will not blow it now.

Very impressive from Josh Kelly.

Josh has his hands up now and does not mind staying up close when he needs to in the 11th.

Josh is cut but it should hold until the end of the fight.

Williamson going for the body shot in the last round which is way too late.

Josh should get the decision.

Great performance from Kelly, but as he goes up the levels I worry about whether he has enough power at this weight to keep bigger guys off him.
