Was waiting for my day off but cool ;D. It's the 101 time Fundora fights for the wbc interim 154 belt and Mendoza is coming off a pretty sound demolition of former champ Jeison Rosario last Nov. Though he's unranked by the body. wbc gonna wbc . Undercard bit all over the place and may change but announced are Brandun Lee v Pedro Campa and Luis Nunez 18-0 v Christian Berreda 20-0-1. For some reason Boxrec took the undercard down, so maybe it's changed.
I was only reading the article about Fundora and this fight yesterday on Saddo. It’s gonna be really interesting to see how far a 6ft 5in LMW is gonna go. Clearly has talent and isn’t just a “freak of nature” . Very highly World ranked.
Depending how much talent he has, he could blast through the weights in time as well.
Limitless opportunities if he’s the real deal.
They've really visited the bone yard for the prelims. Chris Arreola and Devon Alexander vs Gabriel Maestre, has to be one of the oddest 'name' match ups in a while. Frank Sanchez should have an easy touch.
Really has a great attitude and personality about it too. Comes off as a genuine likable kid and then there's the physical force part. As with every single guy we see of this height and volume it would be great to see him fight his range. Think Mendoza gives him a hard night tonight but overall, he'll be a very interesting ride going forward.
Brandun Lee is getting really worked over to body here. Campa took it ring center and to ropes. Big hole for Lee
Ref Jack Reiss inserting himself for a chat or two. I'm just shocked ;D
brandun lee in a mini war here
Little zip on what Lee is putting out here. Getting by on some bluff. Campa fully on the gas. Body is brutal
Savage exchange mid 9th, face of Campa falling apart but much heavier shots from him. Lee has some grit to him. Timing inside counters well to end round.
really good fight
Think Campa won this 1-2. Honestly, be best for Lee. Awesome scrap by both.
i have it a draw
brandun gets a wide decision by all three judges
No no no and no. People talk nonsense...but this was a clear cut robbery by those wash judge cards. Big load a shat.
Well... just watched Shakur easily dominate in HIS fight over on ESPN.
Now let's see what happens in this freak show.
Nah... j/k.
Still... I very much dislike these freakish height differences.
gave the first to sebastian
Did they hire a pro ring side screamer for this? Girl sounds like she's riding a dragon into battle ffs.

I didn't like this one either.
gave brian the second
Mendoza looks like a Hobbit trying to mine uphill. Fundora being smarter picking spots tonight. The shriek banshee in the audience needs a muzzle.
gave the third & fourth to sebastian. the fourth was close
:o ohhhhh
YEAH BABY!!
Strike a blow for the little guy!!
big knockout from brian in the seventh
That was absolutely fuckin epic :smash:
Jim Gray is such a crappy interviewer.
Will have to watch this properly, but Back to the drawing board for Fundora by the looks of it.
Having the night to digest it... it WAS fuckin epic. ;D
I very much dislike fights with such a height difference. It's like a freak show. But think about it. Mendoza kept plugging away and plugging away. At first Fundora was doing little with his power hand (the left). But at some point he loosened up and I've got to admit... Fundora is pretty good on the inside fighting for someone with such a ridiculous height and reach advantage. Mendoza was looking the worse for the wear... and at one point it looked like maybe a late round stoppage if the fight would've kept on like that. I think the judges had Fundora winning every round up to that point, which IMO is a bit harsh, because I think Mendoza has sneaked a round or two in there. Admittedly, I was losing interest in the fight, and saw the result as inevitable. There was nothing Mendoza could do to stem the tide.
But like Mendoza himself said after the fight... he never gave up and just kept plugging away. In the seventh round, I think it was... BOOM. A left hook out of nowhere. I think Fundora's legs caused him the fight, because they kept him upright. Just long enough for Mendoza to come back in and finish the job. No way was Fundora getting up from that devastating left hook, and then the one-two flush on the face before he went down.
In a way it was "Mike Weaver-John Tate -ish". All is lost until one big punch and then... TIMBERRRR!!
Hearing Fundora speak after the fight... he's a likable kid and all. I just think he needs to eat a few more cheeseburgers, and get on up to a division that better suits his height and reach.
That is why you don't throw jab(ish) type punches in close, especially if you are going to drop the jabbing hand. Mendoza threw a hook as the tall guy was throwing the left uppercut- after he pawed with his right- so the tall guy was turning into the hook.
That's how you beat a southpaw- every time he throws a left you throw your left.
Night of upsets
Mendoza didn't even need that final right
Wonderfully nasty stuff
Really a solid night of fights, and still need to catch the Bam Rodriquez card. I just love some upsets. Keeps the boxing world revolving. It does look like Fundora may want-need to make that move but it can also have as much to do with him in the middle of adjusting styles and leaving too many windows open in defense. You have the frame of a praying mantis and the wingspan of a condor but desperately needs to fight his height. At least in spots vs a compact plugger like Mendoza. Unfortunatley as we see with so many fighter, you cannot learn backwards though. You have success you reach a higher level and that level will exploit mistakes. Yeh he looked fried after the two piece and in fairness it looked like his head slammed pretty hard off the canvas too.
having ismael salas in the corner is gold for brian
