Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
OLEKSANDR USYK'S mandatory clash with Daniel Dubois is set to take place on August 12, it has been announced.
The heavyweight champ will defend his WBA, IBF and WBO titles with the fight set to take place in Poland.
Fans have been left surprised by the choice of location which was entirely in the control of Usyk's camp.
But that is currently the plan of the Ukrainian after his promoter, Alex Krassyuk, won the purses bid.
One baffled fan said: "Out of all places Poland?"
Others have suggested the location made sense given the difficulty of holding a fight in Ukraine given the ongoing war.
It is set to be Usyk's first fight since last August when he beat Anthony Joshua for the second time to retain his heavyweight belts.
The 36-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant rise to the top of his weight division and holds a 20-0 record.
He will be the favourite to triumph over Brit boxer Dubois, whose only defeat came against Joe Joyce in 2020.
Triple D has otherwise won all 19 of his other fights, with his last victory coming against Kevin Lerena in December last year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Reports have also suggested that the fighters will be taking home very different pay packets after the clash.
According to respected boxing journalist Dan Rafael there will be a 75/25 split in the fight purses.
It means Usyk is set to pocket just short of £5m while Dubois will take home around £1.6m.
The potential fight comes months after the negotiations for an undisputed bout between Usyk and Fury fell apart.
Between them the pair hold all of the belts in the heavyweight division and fans had been licking their lips at the prospect of seeing them in the ring together.
But after much social media name calling, the negotiations came to nothing.
If Usyk beats Dubois, speculation is likely to begin again.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Meanwhile over on Bondi beach, your mate Fury is being linked with a fight with some unknown surfer or a Cruiserweight that wouldn’t lace “lickle middleweight” Usyk’s boots.
And you still can’t see it yet?

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
They didn't magically teleport Wilder to the #1 spot for nothing. Well, he has only 1 win in over 3+ years but when has that stopped prepositioning. Sure would be a shame to see Dubois come down with a sudden injury in camp :-X. But I'd bet on it.

I do not see this fight happening. Respect to Usyk if he takes it but I got the feeling he will wait for the Saudi money and not fight until December.

No guarantees this Saudi circus happens.

Possibly a tad harsh, but He beat a 38 year old Breidis. Might as well be a different guy. Unquestionably Usyk wiped out the division.

a thirty eight year old mairis who was the current ring, lineal & ibf champion & you could make a case he could still be unbeaten. i agree oleksandr fought the best opposition at cruiserweight but no one has wiped out mairis

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Oleksandr Usyk’s next fight has been made official, as the Ukrainian defends the unified heavyweight titles against Daniel Dubois in Poland in August.
Usyk, 36, will put the belts on the line against the 25-year-old Briton at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw on 26 August.
In any case, Usyk’s focus is now on Dubois, who is the mandatory challenger to the WBA title, which Usyk holds alongside the WBO, IBF and IBO belts.
“Ready for my chance!” Dubois wrote on social media. “I hope you are @usykaa.” Usyk simply wrote: “See you 26 august.”

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Actually looking forward to this one. Usyk clearing up a mandatory while Greedy-belly who should be eager to claim the belts of Usyk makes more ranting vids and does not defend his strap rather taking a circus event with a 0-0 boxing novice.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Good fight. Not the best we could have, but it is doable.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
“The knee is fine, that’s all cleared up now,” said Dubois, as the rivals came together in Warsaw on Monday for the first press conference. “I’m in a training camp, I’m running and everything is going well. I’m grateful for this opportunity and I’m ready to take it with both hands.
“This has been a long time coming and I’m ready to take it on. Usyk has been a great champion but everything with a beginning has an end and I’m ready.”

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
British heavyweight Daniel Dubois says he is "bringing Oleksandr Usyk's titles home" as the pair prepare for their fight on 26 August.
"I'm 100% ready. We're ready to rumble - this is it," said Dubois.
"I'm bringing the titles back home - they're coming with me. It's my time. Usyk has been a great champion but everything with a beginning has to have an end."
Usyk, who has won all 20 fights and will make a second defence of his unified title, was in a playful mood at the media conference, saying he feels "happy" and "hungry" before the bout.
"I think highly of my opponent. He's a nice man, a nice guy, a nice athlete," said Usyk.
"He's the mandatory challenger so he deserves it. All the respect for him, his team and people around him, but let's stop talking and see each other on 26 August."

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
If a shot presents itself, take it, props to Dubois for that. But he's going to find himself horribly out of his depth here and I can't see anything other than another damaging defeat.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
"The guy is going to earn some decent money," Usyk said. "For Francis Ngannou, this is a great opportunity, but for Tyson Fury, it's definitely not."
The unbeaten Ukrainian believes Fury's choice to face Ngannou is driven by financial considerations rather than a genuine desire to test his skills against top-rated boxers in the heavyweight division.
Usyk added: "Doesn't it seem strange that instead of choosing a top-10 guy, he is choosing someone who has never boxed before?"
When asked if he believes Fury is scared of facing him, Usyk did not hesitate with his response.
"Yes, of course! Of course," Usyk said. "Greedy belly [Fury] is afraid of me."
"Let's make it happen," Usyk said of a potential bout against Fury, adding: "I am ready.
"After I fight Dubois I am ready to go, [but] my main focus now is August 26."

Dubois may as well just go out slugging with controlled pressure and try for the KO.
He isnt going to outbox Usyk.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Dubois has already been bounce around the ring by a lesser former cruiserweight
Usyk could end this fight in a round

Stop it. I think it goes the distance. At least. Usyk is not the hardest hitting HW. It's amazing how just a year or so ago, Dubois was stopped by Joyce and is now on the cusp of fighting for the title, but now people are questioning if Joyce will come back to do anything in this sport.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Dubois will win and stop Usyk to cause a massive upset. He is bigger, stronger, hungrier and younger.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Warren told the PA news agency: “It is a massive opportunity and it has not been given to Daniel. He’s had to fight for it and become mandatory by winning the WBA regular belt.
“Now he’s in there and he could have stepped aside if he wanted to, but he didn’t want to.
“He wants the fight and I believe sometimes in boxing the biggest and best punches are all about timing. I believe his timing will be right for this fight.”
While Warren did attempt to bring the world title fight to London, it will take place in Poland and Dubois (19-1, 18KOs) will find himself as public enemy number one.
A number of Ukraine natives have resided in Poland since Russia’s invasion of their country last year and support for Usyk (20-0, 13KOs) inside Tarczynski Arena, which can host up to 43,000 spectators for a boxing match, will be strong.
“He is going into the lion’s den and that is why the temperament will be spot on,” Warren pointed out at Bermondsey Boxing Club on Tuesday.
“We did try get it here. It went to purse bids in the end. We made an offer but they had 75 per cent of the purse bid as champion so that is why it is where it is at.”
A knee injury contributed towards Dubois going down three times in the opening round against South African southpaw Kevin Lerena, but a devastating upper-cut in round three secured the 19th win of his career.
“Yeah, what an ending to that one. I need to pull out something like that again,” Dubois told PA.
“For that fight, I didn’t get enough southpaw work, I was dropping my hands when I shouldn’t have been and not looking out for the right shot.
“But I feel like this time, I’ll be more aware of what is coming back at me.
“It is all about leading up to now. Those are the moments you need to call on to change history, change your life and here we are now.
“If I didn’t get through that, I wouldn’t be here, so it is all part of the journey.
“Camp has been very good. I went to Spain, was out in the mountains and I feel like I have come out a new man, lighter but stronger and ready to do the business.”

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Just saying...if ever there's time for a major letdown on the elite level, this is one :-X. But can't see it at the end of the day. Dubois is and I'm sure he knows it but this is now or never for him. Man has a legit punch. Fury has managed to take one of the most necessary mega fights today and turned it into an afterthought with the carnival act. But he gets away with it and sanctioning bodies just laugh along. It's clearly on the mind of Usyk calling for the belt etc. Usyk is the case of not being asked or tempted to come up a division...or three but just walking into the heavyweight house and spanking a top dog. Twice! But it really feels like Fury, Wilder and company are just hunkered in the spare bedroom waiting for him to go away. Rather than kicking him out. Dubois will stand in and deliver before it's done but Usyk should gradually carve him up pulling away. Great to have an afternoon and primetime card for the weekend.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Who does Buffer have a contract with or who does he have some serious dirt on? He's got it made hasn't he? I can't see the value in having him pop in for the main event.
-
Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Lets see if we can get a nice upset tonight. Slim chance of it i sense but its a HW fight and its happened before. :mr-t::box3:
I love the idea of the devaluation of a Fury-Usyk future matchup and would pay homage dearly to Dubios for that.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
I do like to see how a fighters son fights. Some are very similar to their fathers. Eubank, Tszyu, Hatton, Benn etc. But i dont think Aadam will be even close to his dads style and abillities.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
That was a terrible first opponent. He just quit in the corner. Awful.
-
Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Yeah nothing to see here lol.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
That was the co-main event? Naz son fighting the first time ever in a boxing ring stopping a pathetic opponent in the first round!
This is ppv at its worst.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Dubois looks relaxed with some reggae music as he enters the ring.

Re: Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois
Strictly the main event in States ?. Fair enough let's get at it! Wonder if AJ got around to the ear of Dubois to offer some insight.
