Well the 168 division is very weak apart from Beyer and Kessler, and they are not available.
I dont think it's the worst match up in the world with Calzaghe's exposure and the Contender factor where the show was popular on both sides of the pond, i can see both men being paid well and it being a good spectacule with Calzaghe winning in 6/7 rounds.

Since the july 8 date is set, and no one's available maybe it makes a little sense. I just don't think Calzaghe needs any more warm ups. Much prefer him to fight Clinton, but I don't think Clinton's manager is really serious about the fight only if it is on his terms, and he knows Warren won't allow that.

Joppy is a washed up Middleweight who should be thinking about his pension rather than boxing.
Manfredo is a young up and coming guy who has the exposure to make Calzaghe take note.

Have you seen Calzaghe fight?? I think he has knocked one guy out at World level in his career, Calzaghe will not end this fight in round one,he doesn't have 1 punch ko power it will at least go 5/6 then i feel Roach will throw the towel in knowing his man is out of his depth.

Its like he loves Kessler for some strange reason and instead of telling us what he has done to make him so great.... contsantly says what Calzaghe has or hasn't done as if it some how makes Kessler a better fighter...

to say Joe doesn't have KO power when his record is 75% ko's in all fights & 60% in Title fights is a bit much mate.
If it wasn’t for his dodgy hands JC would have Ko'ed a lot more of these guys IMO
The match u still sucks though. JC needs a challenge to perform well, Lacy case in point. I don't want to see another mediocre performance from a man who has probably no more than five fights in him.

Moggzy chill my friend, i was stating that it is highly unlikely Calzaghe would knock Manfredo out in the first round, he hasnt got 1 punch ko power mate i know clazaghes record better than most.
His Knockouts are more stoppages than KO'S so that was my point as the jerk babbling on about Kessler was saying this wont last one round vwith Manfredo.

I agree that it would be an interesting fight and a huge coup for the Contender people but I think Manfredo would be in way over his head. He would better fighting at 160 lb.
Plus I really like Manfredo and wouldn't like to see him get hurt.
I notice a slight irony here though Skel. A few weeks ago I said that Manfredo would be a good choice of opponent for Howard Eastman and you said that was a stupid idea and that Eastman was way bigger than the reality boy Manfredo. What changed? ;D

Good point Bilbo i did say that you are correct, i think Calzaghe is a good few levels ahead of Manfredo in terms of skill and i also think Eastman would beat him maybe not after we saw his level against Miranda, but a couple of years ago defintly Eastman would be to good for "Contender boy" as i put it!! ;D
But looking at the posotives over the negatives this fight will be good for Clazaghe because of Manfredo's exposure and his well known status in the States, that is the only reason i would take this fight, as this would increase Calzaghes stock in the States and possibly give him more negotiating powers against your Tarvers and RJJ.
I think it will be a total shutout for Calzaghe but this fight would make better sense than a guy ranked say 3/4 at 168 but who the Americans dont know.
It's more the exposure value rather than the skill level of " Contender Boy "

I really hope this fight doesn't happen. Calzaghe would have absolutely nothing to gain and I don't think Manfredo is ready for such a challenge either. Plus I really like Manfredo and want him to have a genuine tilt at a world title. Unfortunately I don't think Calzaghe is the guy he should go up against. I think Manfredo needs to beat a genuine top 10 ranked fighter before he can challenge for a world title, Pemberton really didn't count.
Although I have to say I'm not even sure why we're discussing this. This fight ain't going to happen. Last week Roach was saying he envisaged an Autumn bout between Manfredo and Lacy! I guess he's just throwing Manfredo's name around to reinforce to the fans that Manfredo is a world class level fighter, rather than just some kind of manufactured 'pop idol' style fighter.
I really do like Manfredo and he think he is underrated, but to suggest he can go from fighting most of his career at 154lb and then dropping back to 5 rounders for the Contender, to now challenging for a world title at 168lb is just stretching credibility a little bit.
Let's see Manfredo fight somebody like Calzaghe victim Mario Veit first. That would be an interesting matchup. Veit has only ever lost to Calzaghe and beat Charles Brewer recently.
