Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 10/4 Espn+
The closest fighters giving the 160 division actual life are Janibek, Adams and possibly Sheeraz. What was once a glory division is now struggling along in some anonymity. Janibek managed to unify the ibf and wbo belts last year and it went largely unnoticed. Saturday he'll have another shot at making some noise facing his #1 ibf challenger Andrei Mikhailovich 21-0 out of New Zealand. In the co-main top 135 Raymond Muratalla has a big opportunity to impress v former Spr feather champion Tevin Farmer 33-5-1.

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
This fight is now off. Alimkhanuly fainted & had to have IV for dehydration. He was ruled unfit to fight

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Bad situation all around. Just as the division was looking for stabilization it presumably loses one of the better fighters. Janibek will likely move to 168 after this, leaving titles on the table and Mikhailovich who did everything right loses all that investment and life changing shot. Really sucks that they can't even find him a quick turnaround tba fight to at least go forward with. Raymond Muratalla takes the main event slot v Tevin Farmer.

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Talk about diversion needed. Nice upset on undercard with unheralded and hardly talked about in his own home featherweight Sulaiman Segawa taking a U.10 over #1 ranked Ruben Villa. Picks up a secondary wbc belt. Southpaw quick jab was a piston and Villa looked cooked by the final round.
Muratalla and Farmer into the 2nd round

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Farmer does some sharpshooting last 30 of 2nd but overall Muratalla 2-0
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Muratalla doing a solid job at neutralizing the movement of Farmer. Most of 3rd fought in a large corner of the ring and he's firing right after the flashier shots of Farmer who stays close half the time. 3-0
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Much better 4th for Farmer, chose his corners and picked shots well. Muratalla on the constant reset and misses bit end of round. 3-1
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
highly contested 5th, lean to Muratalla that one
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Muratalla 6th accuracy and bigger lumber. Got Farmer on the tail end of both hands there for a bit
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Farmer 7th very close round
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Ref deducts a point in 8th for holding on Farmer. Seemingly out of the blue. Should be the job of Muratalla to unleash both hands and dissuade that of a clearly smaller man but Farmer went full boa constrictor in there with the arms.

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Farmer getting roughed up and shook end of 9th
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Massive loop right hand rocks Farmer badly in 10th!
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Strong conclusion in final round for Muratalla and huge round. Guile and grit kept Farmer steady, but his eyes were rolling off a few hooks. End at about 97-92 w/ point docked. Muratalla

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
Scores 97-92...96-93...95-94 Muratalla unam 10

Have to feel for Andrei Mikhailovich. It's not often us Kiwi's get a shot at unified titles
Top Rank says they will pay him part of is purse :)
How is it a champion can faint trying to make weight & keep his titles?
Alimkhanuly needs to move up

Its definitely the right thing to do as far as purse. Not sure how it works with weigh in but technically if Janibek made it onto the scale (no idea if he was on weight ?) I think he would have been stripped if over.

it does seem like something that someone could exploit by faking fainting to get out of missing weight on the scales

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
This fight is set for October 4th
Only the IBF will be up for grabs
The WBO has ruled it a non-title fight
The IBF's 2nd day weigh in should be in play
Wonder how that will affect Alimkhanuly

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+
did the original date have both belts on the line? if so what changed?
-
Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 7/13 Espn+

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 10/4 Espn+
Sounds like a demolition job for Janibek but yet to watch. Better news is he kept the weight and a spark for 160. Janibek vs Adames would have main evented HBO by now "in the before times" :-\

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 10/4 Espn+
Janibek outclassed and totally destroyed Mikhailovich. It was domination from the first bell and should have been stopped after the 2nd round. That was a brutal round.
Andrei closed the distance and smothered Alimkhanuly to survive as long as he did but Janibek took his time because he was in total control and wanted to get some rounds in.
Ref stopped it in the 9th round.
“I have two titles and two titles are missing,” said Janibek, who intends to unify the division regardless. “Any of them, [Erislandy] Lara (WBA champion) or [Carlos] Adames (WBC champion), send me the paper and I’ll sign it anytime.”

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 10/4 Espn+
It looked like a man vs. a boy
Great heart shown by Mikhailovich
But his corner & the ref might have shortened his career :-\

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 10/4 Espn+
Andrei came across as a brat before the fight. He was outclassed during the fight and his corner were insane allowing that beating to continue. Alimkhanuly enjoyed punishing him.

Re: Janibek Alimkhanuly v Andrei Mikhailovich 10/4 Espn+
Wbo has been salty pre and post with Janibek but now orders him to fight #1 Hamzah Sheeraz. Apparently Janibek is all about it saying he's ready. Have to see how this plays out but a huge shot in the arm for 160. A case where Janibek could accomplish and gain more 'big picture' with a Sheeraz victory than say taking belts from lesser known Adames or a 60 year old Lara. We just desperately need a big fan friendly fight in the once historic division.
