Jack Catterall v Regis Prograis

“The 140 division is stacked with a lot of great fighters, so I find myself now fit and well, past the periods of inactivity and ready to fight and be involved in these big fights.”

Catterall targeted a world title shot against American Teofimo Lopez, who currently holds the WBO belt, after he avenged his controversial defeat to Taylor in May.

Australian Liam Paro is another option for 2025 and he puts his IBF title on the line against Richardson Hitchins in December, but southpaw Catterall knows what is required first.

He added: “That is the motivation and part of the motivation behind fighting Regis. Outside of the world champions, he for me is the biggest fight to have.

“I believe a victory against him will put me right at the top of the list and ready to challenge the names you’ve mentioned. They are all the fights I welcome.”

Catterall had previously talked up a bout with Ryan Garcia, who beat Devin Haney in April, but subsequently had the result changed to a no-contest after Garcia tested positive for Ostarine on the day of the fight.

Garcia, who claimed to not knowingly have taken the banned substance, is currently suspended and also embroiled in a lawsuit with Haney.

However, Catterall would take on the American and stressed the importance of a clean sport after opponent Prograis tweeted at the start of October he had only been tested once by VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association).

I want to put that message across for other athletes and young fighters coming through that it should be a clean sport.

“I have not followed it too closely over these last weeks and months whether Ryan has got his licence or not got his licence,” Catterall explained.

“Obviously he is a big name in the sport of boxing and if he’s got a licence and is a clean fighter, then I would love to fight him.

“I agree with (Regis’ tweet). If he’s had the one test, it’s not enough. I replied I’ve been tested three times and I was actually tested the day after he sent the tweet, so somebody is listening… VADA’s listening!

“I want to put that message across for other athletes and young fighters coming through that it should be a clean sport.

“It’s a serious sport, you can get seriously hurt and we all need to be on the same team when it comes to drug tests.”

Absolutely love Regis Prograis. Hometown bwoy and ran himself into bad management imo. A very shifty cagey reflex style. His volume and punch output has been wanting though. I'm just not fully convinced at this stage he gets around that hellish jab and momentum of Catterall.

jack fades in the later rounds so that could give regis a chance but regis has only been throwing an average of three punches a round his last few fights. hoping for an upset but i think regis is faded

Just watched the Campbell Hatton Vs Flint. Easy to kick a man when he's down. But Hatton Jnr is the Scrappy-Doo of boxing. He showed 0 improvements after moving to the Ben Davison Performance Centre. If I was Campbell Hatton I'd start a beef with a few YouTubers and get the misfits bag. He just really isn't any good, and that’s OK and for his own health he needs to find a 9-5 job that keeps him safe

regis down twice in the nineth. looked badly hurt at the rounds end

Catterall is one of them boxers that is better than he actually looks. He’s never gonna be box office, but will beat a lot of good guys.

regis recovered well in the tenth

looks like regis hurt his leg by slipping on the canvas. yeah leg is gone. i have jack winning by one round

Didn’t properly score rounds but I felt Catterall won by at least 2-3 rounds.

jack gets a unanimous decision. one judge had it by nine points, the other two had it by seven points. terrible scores

So the 117-108 card effectively means Prograis won the 5th (the knockdown round) and one other. That could be a tad harsh.

Jack got the win and should get a title fight next but I do not find him exciting to watch.

But this is the thing. Give me one Catterall against 10 Whittakers or Yardes or Benn or Eubank.
They get all the hype, but none of them has as good a chance of becoming a World Champion. And not just a champion where they’ve nicked a belt, but he is top 4 in his division and has beaten 2 World Champions, should even have been undisputed.
He’s not exciting, but he does everything right and he gets the job done.

Pretty pedestrian fight from the rounds watched with Prograis unraveling late and looking like he's been on the slide for a spell. Credit to Catterall for sticking to complete game plan even if it involves boiling down the pace and not exactly lighting the crowd on fire. 140 is a little bit all over the place right now so not sure if they'll factor Jake in for winner of Paro v Hitchins or a Teo ? where he sits #2. Unlikely though as Teo is currently acting about as sharp as a marble with contract dispute with Arum and more interested in twatter slap fights with Crawford. Cards were phoned in wide, but Prograis was classy in defeat and again talking about bareknuckle boxing.

Catterall is dull :-\
But he's very hard to beat :cool:

He should rematch Taylor at 147

Agree and think he did himself zero favors with the ? Triller nonsense fighting under Jack Paul undercards. But I don't know the particulars in management he was dealing with but he sort of sabotaged himself in some obscurity. Also talking leaving for Bareknuckle for a couple years now :-X.
