Hi all...

Im new here, I have been reading posts for quite some time and decided that this seems to be a great board with cool posters and some nice features! :D

So here is my opening post, and its mainly after reading so much about fighters leaving a legacy.

I feel today too many fighters are somewhat ruining the industry due to the fact they dont want to have a L on thier record. I can fully understand this. But when every four months a fight comes along and its one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world, facing off against some second rate opponent, when there is another pound for pound great, with no schedule, it all seems selfish.

I look at the true great names that get thrown around here, the ones we class as the best (Im not very old so cant go way back ;D), but when we throw out names such as:

• Oscar De La Hoya
• Ronald "Winky" Right
• Felix Trinidad
• Marco Antonio Barrera
• Manny Paquiao
• Erik Morales
• Jesus Chavez
• Shane Moseley
• Luis Castillo

And many more.....yet all these fighters have losses....but losses against the best in the business.

To me and I know all these fighters fit into this catergory, are fighters who never dodged anyone. Fighters who went to war, fighters who didnt duck and dodge in order to cement a solid legacy.

To me these people and the matches they have been in despite winning losing or drawing, they have all given thier all and became the very best, and have became true warriors.

Winky Wright for one, is Number One Pound 4 Pound on many peoples lists, he has gone to other countries been knocked out, got back up, won titles, and got everyone back on his side to put his name forward as a modern day great.

This is not a knock to anyone of the fighters I am about to name, because I will tell you straight, they are great fighters.

Its hard to knock FLoyd Mayweather Jnr because he has faught top names, Castillo, Corrales, Gatti, Judah but when it comes to the new breed, Cotto, Hatton and the big name on everyones lips Margarito, he doesnt care for them and would rather as it seems take Oscar next, or Zab again.

Oscar for a big payday yes, and you cant blame him, after all he puts his life on the line for us and the business, but I see it as ducking one of the three fights we all want to see, certainly the two I want to see...

Hatton or Margarito v Pretty Boy

I may get some stick for the next one, but dont get me wrong, I held this mans name very low until he destroyed Jeff Lacey.

He made me eat my words...., no infact he rammed them down my throat. :lickish:

I feel Joe Calzaghe, is one of the top pound for Pound fighters in the world, but when I look at his record, it isnt amazing. I am not saying HE isnt amazing, but he hasnt got massive names on his list.

I dont feel Jeff Lacy is a massive name, he fought no-one, he got found out. Maybe Jeff can come back and be a great, and as we can all see he also has a L on his record, but again from what will most likely be a all time great in Joe. Talk of him retiring is stupid.

I do think Joe will take on better opponents, he has said he wants to, but I feel maybe soon, a trip across the water is whats needed.

Where to stand on Hatton I dont know, I am a massive fan, but he seems to be dressed in cotton wool. He needs the big names, I really cant see anyone beating him.

If Zab can do what he did to Mayweather for four rounds and get him in all sorts of problems, Ricky can do it for 12.

Lets be honest, in a way, Zab Judah is still a big draw, yes he is a thug, but this is boxing, its a mans sport and although there is no need for some of his antics, you cant help but be intrigued as to what he is going to bring to the table.

Again another who has losses, alike Gatti, but seem to bring it to the PPV plate.

It seems true warriors of the game have been there and done it and got the record to show it.

Promoters need to stop wrapping thier fighters in cotton wool, so they dont lose, which means they make less money.

I for one seem to respect the fighters who dont dodge, and are prepared to battle with anyone.

Cool click and welcome to the best forum on the net PERIOD. You have some valid points there and glad to see someone who still owns up to being a Lacy fan!! I would no put Jesus Chavez in that list though,he's not as good as the rest of the guys there.

And I agree with you, there is no shame to having L's on your record from the best in the business. In fact it's riskier to fight second rate opponents because then you might have an off night and lose to the likes of Baldomir... and that L does carry some weight.

Well I admit Chavez isnt really technically in the same league, Im just a big fan! ;D

I really think Jermaine Taylor deserves massive credit for the way he is going through his career.

Another who seems to be ducking from no one and taking a massive bandwagon of fans along with him!

Even if he did, he has character he is good, he has heart, and he is a true gentleman, and if he does beat Wright, then who can argue? :o

I guess when you don't fully like a fighter, you tend to see things that really weren't there...through the first four rounds the fight was basically even...and that was mayweather gameplan to let Judah bring his best, because that's what judah does...he starts fast..and once mayweather took his early barages Judah took a pot-shot beating for the next 7 rounds...Hatton would be a great fight for floyd, but I think the most important thing in that fight would be the ref, because if hatton is allowed to do alot of holding, then PBF might have trouble..but other than that i don't think that Hatton would even get close to PBF...

And don't think for one second that PBF would fight Hatton the same way he fought Judah..he really didn't have any respect for Judah's power after the second round that's why he decided to walk foward and beat up judah...

I dont hate PBF, not at all, but I want him to show that he is the best P4P....if he truly is.

miguel cotto is very classy and can be a dangerous fighter for these guys

Miguel cotto will be tested later this year when fights castillo, then we will see where he stands, because PBF will tear him up...he's tooooooo green...

So you mean to tell me that in the biggest fight of his career, Judah only prepared for 4 rounds? Come on man...The fight changed because PBF thought Judah would be more agressive in the early rounds but once his corner saw that Judah was only looking to counter with the left hand, they told floyd to go after him, and that's what he did...

roger is actually his uncle...and I hope that was a joke..but if you're not familiar with the language it basically means just take the fight to him...that's all...why would you take that so literal? Once again i hope that was a joke, and if not i explained what it meant....

I dont know what Zab does behind closed doors, but the point I am trying to put across, is Zab tired after round four, or he lost the plot, (which is possible for Zab)


What I am saying is Ricky wont do this.

Thats when we see the real PBF moving and hitting ducking weaving causing Hatton to tire and causing him all kinds of problems, and thats when we see how good Hatton is to couter Floyds tactics.

This is why the fight needs to be made, Hatton destroys Collazo, then possibley Gatti or Baldomere

Whilst Flloyd beats Margarito...

Then.....SUPER-FIGHT!

Yep...although I see PBF not making a fight anytime too soon, because he said he hurt his hand during the judah fight...so maybe Margarito can fight somebody else with a name in stead of trying to pull a tarver, which is not fight until the money maker decides to fight you....

PBF should rest until him and Hatton fight at the same time, lets say November, then hopefully after both defending succesfully...we can have the fight we want.

Hi B@rr3r@ and welcome to the forum. I agree it's great when the best in each division fight each other but I think it is happening a lot now.

Mayweather hasn't ducked anybody. People say Hatton but really Mayweather is just thinking bigger than any one fight and going or a legacy along the the lines of Leonard and De La Hoya. He wants to be a 5 weight world champ so he was never going to hang around at 140 when he still had 147 and 154 to conquer.

Now he's beatne Judah, who up until January this year was unquestionably THE man at 147 lbs he will already be looking at the likes of Mosely and De La Hoya en route to a climb up to 154. I don't think Hatton is getting a shot at Mayweather any time soon.

Personally I'm not too bothered, I'm not nearly as optimistic about Ricky's chances as everyone else. Mayweather is a different class altogether and wins a hard fought but unanimous decision against a gutsy Hatton in my book

Margarito really isn't anybody. He's a big puncher who looked great in knocking out Kermit Cintron and he was powerful against Michael Gomez but he's nothing special as a boxer. Slow and wide open, Mayweather will pick him apart like he did Coralles.

To me Margarito is just a fashionable name that's being bandied about right now, he doesn't figure in the welter scene beyond being a possible road back to redemption for Zab Judah I think.

I am not much of a fan of Floyd, but it's hard to argue that he;s not one of the top two fighters inthe game. He's fighting for recognition of a different kind: statistics and names. He wants belts and bucks, that's it. If he can get those things without fighting Margarito or Hatton, he will. I felt Castillo edged him in the first fight and both fighters above could apply that same kind of pressure. I'm not holding my breatht though. The idea of Judah rematch is a joke, we can't balme Floyd for that mandate.

Take Fernando Vargas for example, this guy earned the respect and love of all boxing fans after his first loss to Trinidad, a fight in which he was down twice in the first round and still managed to come back to make the fight a real dog fight. After that he went on to loose two more fights , one to Oscar DLH and his most recent to Mosley. Three losses against three of the elite fighters of our generation and they were all great close fights. I belive you actually earn respect from these type of losses. These are fights that have no real loosers and that help portray both fighters as true warriors.
