Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
Great fight, but anyways when I watch a fight that I haven't seen in a long time so I don't remember every punch thrown I try to react to the boxers punches in my head from when they throw it. Mayweather and Zab and all those guys I can almost always react in my head before they would be able to land on me(if I was smaller and able to move liek a 130-140 pound person that is). When I watched this fight with Jones though, and he jabs, his jab is always faster than I can react, and there is nobody else I've ever watched that can do that. I truly believe he had faster hands at SMW than Floyd or Mosley had at lightweight. Seriously watch the fight he is so fast its scary that he's so much larger than the little guys. The only way Mosley is faster than Roy is in combinations, but he has skinnier shoulders and the like so he could rotate faster, but wow now I see why Zab could almost match Floyd's speed. Yet Reggie Johnson was sooo much slower than Roy.

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
Jones was a featherweight in 1985, but his Daddy put a needle in his ass because he fought at 156 in 1986.
So what I'm saying is, Jones has a small bone structure and was NOT a natural middleweight!

;D
Can tell the Floyd fans "almost" ;D,

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
What Zab wasn't as fast it was easy to see..., and Floyd was alot slower at welterweight than he was at lightweight or superfeather weight. I never saw Zab leading with left crosses for the whole fight. Once Floyd relaxed he was dodging almost everything Zab threw, and was hitting Judah with almost everything he threw.

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
An obvious PBF supporter such as myself..it was clear as day that Judah appeared to have the faster hands....but then he got hit with some straight rights by floyd...he didn't hit floyd with a straight left all night...but in the end i thought their speed was equal...

I agree he took a needle to get up to heavyweight... maybe, but definitely disagree about earlier. THere is a thing called puberty, and that makes people grow alot. Guys don't start to fill out tilla bout 17, and Roy was already having to lose weight to fight at 139, and he had like no muscle mass on him whatsoever. By the Olympics he went up to walk around weight, and put a little time in the gym. Then at pros he started at 154, and by he was already starting to fill out, and grow muscles. I have friends who are black then they were skinny as fuck growing up, but as soon as they hit 17-18 they just bulked out because of the testosterone. I'm not being racist its just more normal to see this in african americans than it is in white people who are bigger as childern, and generally stay skinny or are naturally bigger. That being said even for a featherweight he would amazingly quick seeing as Floyd is faster than any featherweight out there.

Closer to the middle he was... At first he never fought anyone with Zab's speed since the amateurs... How much of his stuff did Zab dodge after the 4th round?

yeah, Roy was not only P4P faster than Floyd.....He was faster than Floyd even as a SMW

There are three things that make punches seem faster sometimes when their not. 1. Zab had 4 inch shoter arms which makes the punch seem like it moving faster when that not neccesarily the case. 2. Zab throws out the jab as finder while Floyd actually tries to do damage, and throws a technically proper jab. 3. Zab almost always throw his cross after a jab which gives him more "Swing" momentum with his hips allowing his cross to be faster than just throwing it on its own.

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
I cant really stand either of them but what I saw was floyd was apprehensive to do much because Zab was quicker and obviously he was feeling the shots, then Zabs activity dropped and allowed Floyd to work.
Hatton will walk through Floyd, Mayweather doesnt hit hard enough as Zabs chin proved

You obviously didn't see the fight..after the second round...floyd goes to the corner..and his uncle tells him that judah doesn't want to fight....after that PBF came foward all night...and the gameplan early on was to allow judah to start fast as he always does..then beat him up...and ZAB didn't get gassed it was floyd's punches that caused judah's activity to drop as you say...which is inaccurate because actually Judah threw more punches than floyd...

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza

Floyd was faster despite what you say... Mayweather explained why he was apprehensive during the first few rounds. He was scouting out his opponent. Also Hatton will be eaten alive by Floyd's speed.

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
Actually Floyd has more speed combined with accuracy as a fighter. Zab is more explosive and seemed a little faster at the weight because of it.
Zabs used to punching from a distance and throws himself into the punch. Early the fight, Floyd would sit back and try to use his speed to counter or lead with big shots and Judah would beat him to the punch because zabs style closes the distance quicker than floyds and he gets much of his power from the momentum gained while his punches are in route. Unfortunately, Judahs has to lift that right arm at the shoulder because he carries his hands low now (especially his right). Its perfect for the distance he likes to throw from and the competition hes had up till now (much slower hand speed and reflexes than he has or passive and more defensively minded) because its allowed him to work from his comfortable distance, leap in and pick away or land first.
Floyd exploited judahs style by closing the distance and hold his hands high. The shorter distance didnt allow judah to get the full range or power on his punches because he didnt have the room to build the momentum. and....With Floyds hands high, he beat judah to the punch because by the time Zab got his hand up to throw, Floyds were already lifted and launched. (its the same way a guy like winky beats a big puncher like Trinidad using nothing but a jab.) Floyd was too aggressive in the beginning trying to land bigger punches and counters from what he thought was a safer distance so he could get the most impressive victory possible.
In zabs defense he seemed to try and make a concious effort to hold his hands higher than usual. All the body work by floyd made sure they weren't held too high though. Early in his career, Zab would have avoided this stylistic problem because he held his hands at chest level and kept his elbows tight and used his legs more to spring and get power on his punches over a shorter distance.
Roys style and his athletic abilities complemented each other well. The punch dynamics of his style and his speed allowed him to punch and be out of harms way on the follow through most times. When you do something fast.. it can be said that you just have speed. When you do things fast and unorthodox and effectively, it just makes you seem that much faster because it causes 3 times the confusion. How did he do that? like that? and not miss or get countered?

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
nobody mentioned the significant fact about this fight and that is RJJ was the first to go a whole round without being hit at all in all of Compubox history against Vinny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That has more to do with Mayweather's better defense instead of Zab's faster hands.

I think for the Mayweather vs. Judah fight, and most of Mayweather's fights is that since he doesn't have those snappy punches he has to try and make them more punishing meaning he takes a little off their speed for accuracy and power.Still I felt that he was faster than Judah, and able to beat him to the punch when he felt like it.

Mayweather sometimes used his defense, but alot of times his defense is just his reflexes which were fast enough to most of Judah's punches once he settled down (round 12). Also how a punch look from outside the ring, and fast the punch is for the person who is fighting are two different things. A straight jab looks slower than a snapping jab from the hip, but it actually gets there faster, and can be moving faster its just the arm fully extends. This is why Jones usually never really had an effective jab because unless the guy was way slower(Ruiz) or way smaller (Pazienza) he get it off. Another thing like I mentioned Floyd's arm reach was 4 inches longer than thatof Zab, and that makes punches look slower as well.

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
i dont know if floyds hands are actually faster than zabs, but i will say that he's more accurate than zab.

Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
So taeth you reckon you could evade floyds punches because you were reacting watching the fight? ::**
-
Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
i think we should have a day when noone is aloud to mention floyds name i used to like him but now its just to much
-
Re: Just watched Jones vs. Pazienza
To sum all this up, Floyd Mayweather isn't even the beginning of a pimple on the ass of Roy Jones.
And thats real O0

I couldn't get out of the way of most of his shots, but I could start reacting for he landed, but against Roy it would be after he already hit me I would react from what I've seen. Floyd still has alot more foot speed at least at lightweight and superfeatherweight than Roy had at SMW, but hand speed goes to Roy. SN:Roy had shorter arms than Floyd.

Yet people are allowed to talk about Toney, Hatton, Calzaghe, Margarito all the time? Hardly fair.
