Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
1967
Cassius Clay,
After making 1967 Title Defenses against Ernie Terrell and Zora Folley in 1967;
* February 6 ......... W Dec 15 ......Ernie Terrell
* March 22............ TKO 7 ........... Zora Folley
Cassius 'secretly' wanted to set an unprecented Title Defense record, and had planned bouts against the following opponents;
* April.............. Floyd Patterson II ................... Las Vegas, Nevada
* May............... Leotis Martin .......................... Stockholm, Sweden
* June.............. Thad Spencer ........................ Oakland, California
* July............... Karl Mildenberger II ............... Frankfurt, Germany
* August........... Oscar Bonavena..................... Tokyo, Japan
* September..... George Chuvalo II .................. Toronto, Canada
* November...... Joe Frazier ............................. Houston, Texas
This would have given Cassius '9' Title defenses in single year.
Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
Fighting Frazier 2 months after 15 rounds with Chuvalo a 2nd time would have been too tough.

Yes, that would have been some Mountain to climb.
Seems that as of {late March 1967}, Cassius' plan was to clean up the Heavyweight Division in 1967,
and turn over the Heavyweight Championship to his brother Rudy Clay on New Year's Day on January 1, 1968.
Rudy was to 'inherit' the Title, and make '2 or 3' Title Defenses in Africa in 1968, and then retire.
Then, it was to be handed off to 'best friend' Jimmy Ellis on January 1, 1969.
Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
I was planning to wake up early yesterday, eat a healthy breakfast then go for a 3 hour bike ride, followed by a long dump, a hot bath with 2 close to underage women who would then take me out for dinner, pop some pills with me and spend the rest of the night fucking until the sun came up when we would all watch the tour de france while they traded off blowing me and eating my ass out.
Unfortunately it was a rest day on the tour and we just slept in and went for coffee around 3pm. Oh well... Plans! Hahaha....

1967
Cassius Clay even wanted to get Ingemar Johannson into the 1967 mix.
That Cassius Clay.......... He was a funny sort.

I think what Rocco is trying to say is that plans are not always reality and real life things get in the way. :)

Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
Ali should have added another 6 :D 15 is a nice number ;) would have been an easy year for 'The Greatest' :)
Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
1967
Cassius would have 'never' gotten by Thad Spencer in June 1967.
If that bout took place at Oakland Coliseum, Thad wins by a 'close' 15-Round Decision.
Thad was the perfect fighting machine at that time, and younger than that 'old man' called Cassius.
Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
Yes it is often said that Thad Spencer would have beaten Ali. Lucky Ali got exiled from boxing and Thad got beat by Quarry.

Thad got beat by Jerry Quarry in February 1968,
When he was not in good shape, due to 'mucho partying'.
{See 1967} > Thad Spencer vs. Ernie Terrell............:)
Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
His name was Ali by '67 ;) 'The Greatest' would have beaten Spencer at any stage of their careers :D

Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
Roberto,
That's Mr. Candy Slim to you.
And did you know, that I snapped Muhammad Ali's head gear 180* around his head in a
1969 sparring session.
Damn had him out on his feet in a Boxing Exhibition in Charleston, South Carolina.
Only that 'thick skull' of his prevented him from falling down at the base of my feet.
Re: Cassius Clay ~ "1967 Planned Title Bouts"
You say thick skull, I say great chin, heart and determination.
