Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
Roy 'Tiger' Williams
He was the one who taught Muhammad to use the Ropes, while they were
training in Zaire.
Roy was 'lumping' up Muhammad on a routine basis. He told Muhammad to just
rest on the Ropes, and let the big galoot punch himself out.
Roy never got the deserved credit.
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
Telling someone to take Foremans punches versus doing it are two different levels of credit. In interviews after the fight Foreman said he was afraid he was going to kill Ali and he never hit anyone harder. There is a great documentary about the affair I think it's called when we were kings or something to that effect. One of my favourite boxing documentaries

What is it to be then? You said earlier in the thread that it was a fixed fight and now you are suggesting that Ali's, "tactics" even if borrowed or learned, were credit worthy?
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
It was 'fixed' and Roy taught Muhammad.
It can be both, as Muhammad went both ways.

Maybe.
I think what really helps ALi is that he was basically a Warlock = Male Witch, he used consciously or subsonciously real tricks of evil to lurk Foreman into defeat/ Foreman was not a Christian at that time, he had no protection. This is the SPIRITUAL truth behind the Ali's victory, ropes ae just details.

@NVSemin, it's hard to argue with your logic but Ali was a Muslim, just wondering how that fits into the scheme of things

He is well known for verbally abusing his opponents. When I was younger, I did not think seriously about it. Now I realize this is the legit weapon of spiritual warefare, you are basically cursing your enemies. It does work 100 %. He did some voodoo stuff as well, jokingly, but it has damn serious consuquences

Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
Muhammad Ali
This was supposedly the same genius that was pathetic against Rudi Lubbers
{just before fighting George Foreman}, and even more pathetic against
Chuck Wepner {just after fighting George Foreman}.
Muhammad was no genius, he was a lucky guy who fought George Foreman at 4:00 AM
in the morning when he was sleepy.
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
Somebody should have told poor sleepy George to have an early night and a coffee!
Ali cheated, he had black coffee (or was it BLACK MAGIC nvsemin?! :o) and some hash browns at 2am...
Fuck me... They're all out today...
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that Dundee fucked with the ropes in the Foreman fight or any other fight. Now you can have a village idiot repeat the charge over and over and over again but unsubstantiated bullshit does not become truth because you say it more times. It becomes sincere delusion be it foreign policy or boxing.
And for the record trainers, charlatans and most likely a few dwarfs have attempted to foul the ring in one way or the other from its size, to its foundation, the ropes and even the apron throughout history. Why a person would single out Ali and with absolute bull shit is anyone's guess. One would almost think he was the reason daddy left mommy.
Even if one was to suppose that Angelo toyed with the tension, not only would it have been stupid beyond belief to attempt such an experiment in such a fight but in the grand scheme of "cheating" throughout boxing history, it does not even make the list. Molehills do not grow into mountains outside the mind of a child.

Having a rest on the Ropes is not the same as being sleepy. Imagine what would have happened had Ali NOT been sleepy :p
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
Angelo Dundee
Was 'NO' genius.
When he first checked out the Ropes, he wanted them tighter, because they were too loose.
When he got the Boxing Ring crew together, they actually rotated the turn-buckles the wrong way,
loosening the Ropes.
Angelo had to get a 'pipe-wrench' with a 3 Foot Extension Bar to re-tighten them back to the
original tightness.
He wanted them tighter, but there was no more thread left on the adjusting bolt.
And, Dick Saddler was there with him the whole time.
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
What is happening on this forum today!?!?!
I logged in after a week or so and I've been cracking up reading some threads.
You have this dude who just hates on Ali non stop and brockonblockbust baited him big time with this thread. Then you have ykdadamaja and his Mayweather thread.
It's al happening today.
BTW I love the responses you guys are coming out with. Quality. ;D
Re: Let's be honest---the ropes in Zaire DID look rather loose
Yeah they were very loose... but in the end Foreman was an idiot and punched himself out. I mean loose ropes or not, standing still on the ropes should be an absolute gift for a guy like Foreman, but Ali took the blows and Foreman punched himself out like a dummy.
