Is repetition boxing a great way to help develop punching power?
When it comes to training in boxing, is throwing the same type of punch repetitively a good way to develop punching power and speed? An example would be standing in front of a mirror and doing a hundred jabs, then maybe a hundred 1-2s (jab-cross) etc. I realize this would not be good ALL the time, as I know there is a lot more to boxing than just standing still and being able to throw good punches. But for a newbie needing to develop punching power as well as technique (not to mention better handspeed), would this be a good thing to do to start off with vs. just randomly throwing punches while shadowboxing? I would think so to help muscle memory and whatnot, but I figured I should ask some people who have a lot of experience with this.
Also, would it be good to do repetition boxing on the heavybag?
(I have no boxing experience whatsoever and I do not have access to a boxing gym at this time).

If you are just starting out, I would suggest that you put all ideas of 'power' out of your head, speed, too, and forget about combinations. Repetition is great, that is how you learn, by doing it over and over, and over. Stand in front of a mirror and throw jabs, thousands of them. Then throw straight right hands, then left hooks, uppercuts etc...Then throw a jab, a right hand, and a hook. Not a combination, but three separate punches, one right after the other. Always start slow, even with that very first jab (the first of thousands) to make sure it is right, then build speed. Don't step with your punches, yet, just get your balance right and the technique right standing in one place.
Now, if you don't have access to a gym, and thereby an instructor, you need to be careful of where you go for information. I would suggest a book called "Boxing" by Edwin L. Haislet; probably not easy to find but the best instructional book I have run across. Most everything I have seen on-line is garbage. But that is my opinion.

Thank you for your help, i will keep this in mind. I have another question, do you know of any good youtube videos I could view to watch exactly the technique how I could throw punches? (I'll probobly start off with the jab and the cross first) There is probably plenty of videos out there that will all tell me what I need to know, but as you just advised to be careful where I go for information I figured I should ask this too.

If I were you, I'd watch some of the great boxers in history work their craft.
I'd recommend watching how Muhammad Ali threw his jabs. It's how I modeled my jabs, and it was excellence.

Watch Muhammad Ali vs. Cleveland Williams. Nice short fight that displayed an excellent skill in jabs.

For power you need to:
- Develop strong, explosive legs (do plyometrics)
- Develop a strong core for rotation
- Work the heavy bag strategically
- Shadowbox with dumbells

repetiton builds endurance.
there is no point throwing a 1000 punches if everyone of them is shyte.
