Getting Amateur Fights/Becoming an Amateur Fighter
I have been training for a little under a year, nothing too crazy but I have been taking training a little more seriously. Running, eating really well and training with an ex-pro, sparring.
To make a long story short, I would like to think about entering into am amateur circuit or being an "amateur". The gym I am at has "fight nights" but they are usually a joke.
They never have any weight classes so me being 5'10" at 154lbs I could fight a guy that’s like 6'3" 200 lbs.
I would like to know how I move onto something legitimate. Where I register what I should do? What steps I need to take and what needs to be done for me not to waste time or make mistakes.
I am in Southern California
Thanks ahead

Re: Getting Amateur Fights/Becoming an Amateur Fighter
they guys you train with at your gym dont know anything about it?
check out US Boxing's website, they probably have something about the golden gloves
the Amateur Athletic Union does boxing tourneys too, dont they?
Re: Getting Amateur Fights/Becoming an Amateur Fighter
The guy I train with never fought out of the US he is from EU.
There are a couple pro boxers and a promoter that are out of the gym I am at so maybe I will talk to them when I see them next. I was just hoping to get some 3rd party advice and maybe some pointers...
thank you though

First the gym you go to don't seem too promising so check out other gyms in your area http://www.boxinggyms.com/addresses/california.htm
For amateurs, don't surround yourself with pros and the promoting game too much, just get a good trainer that is as serious as you are. If you can't find a good trainer just get pointers from the exprienced guys and keep working out. Don't get dicouraged, keep pushing.
