Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
The lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will fight in Las Vegas for the first time when he tackles undefeated Tom Schwarz (24-0-KO16) at the world-famous MGM Grand on June 15 – live on ESPN+.
‘The Gypsy King’ (27-0-1-KO19) returns to the United States – scene of his triumphant display against WBC world champion Deontay Wilder in December – on one of boxing’s most prestigious stages.
MGM Grand, which holds in excess of 17,000 fans, has witnessed some of the biggest super-fights in the history of the sport with the likes of Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II, Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather, Mayweather vs. Canelo and Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao all gracing the arena.
Fury vs. Schwarz will be broadcast live on ESPN+ in the US and BT Sport in the UK just months after Fury signed a colossal deal with major US promotional company Top Rank.
Fury said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be boxing in Las Vegas on ESPN+. I always said I will never go to Vegas until I box there and now I finally am.
“I can’t wait to put on a boxing masterclass for all my fans. The British and Irish fans will invade Vegas. I can’t wait!”
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said: “It’s with great pride that Top Rank and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, together with ESPN+ and MTK Global, will be able to present the leading heavyweight in the world and a megastar in boxing.
“Tyson will be facing a tough, experienced and undefeated fighter in Tom Schwarz, who is coming to Las Vegas ready to shock the world.”
MTK Global President Bob Yalen said: “All the best fighters of the last decade-plus have fought in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and on June 15, you can add Tyson Fury to that list.
“The world’s premier promoter, the world’s premier boxing venue and the world’s premier heavyweight, backed by the world’s premier management team on the world’s premier sports network…It is going to be a can’t-miss night of boxing.”
UK promoter Frank Warren added: “I’m very excited about starting the next chapter in the Tyson Fury story. With this new deal and co-promotion with Top Rank, it’s all about getting Tyson out there to a huge audience, and nobody can do that in America like ESPN.
“I would like to extend a special thanks to MTK Global for the role they have played in this exciting next step.”

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Anyone else starting to think Fury might have a tougher night than he thinks?
The Heavyweight divisions young guns should all be inspired after what Ruiz did to Joshua the other week ;)
Potential banana skin?

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Remote chance this could be for the WBO title which Ruiz could be stripped of if the WBO choose before Saturday, can't see it happening but nothing in boxing surprises me these days.
"I'm hearing now that it could be on the line on Saturday night," Fury told Press Association Sport. "That's inside information so maybe I shouldn't have said that, though I've said it now anyway, so maybe it'll be on the line on Saturday night.
"There is a chance. It's highly doable, so I've been told, so maybe it'll be for the WBO championship as well.
"When you're the lineal champion that's as big as it gets. It doesn't get any bigger than that. It doesn't matter how many belts (the other heavyweights) have got; they've got to beat Tyson Fury to be number one.
"(If not) the winner of me and Tom Schwarz will be mandatory for the WBO, because it's number three and number two (in the rankings) fighting each other."

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Of course the WBO will strip Ruiz, Fury is with Top Rank and the WBO belt is theirs. Fraudulent as fraudulent can be.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Interesting how the promo poster shows Schwartz as a comparative monster next to Fury. ;D Never mind that Fury is almost 4 inches taller.
Boxing hype takes on some interesting forms.
A focused Fury sweeps the floor with this chap. Schwartz ain't no Ruiz.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Another upset would be sweet. Tyson won't take risks
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
I feel like this fight is purely a yardstick to see whether Fury has any newfound drawing power in the states. His first fight in Vegas against a totally unknown German fighter, it doesnt make a lot of sense. The trouble is, as someone else said, Fury isnt really suited to showcase fights as a non puncher who has been in his share of stinkers. He does look fit and sharp from the little training footage Ive seen, so hopefully he can impress and help his stock.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
What a shame if they strip Ruiz, but not surprising if they choose.
@TitoFan LOL, yeah, the ad makes it look like they're the same in height & build.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Can't bring myself to fool with espn+ but sort of anticipating this one. It's been interesting watching Fury in the build up, the guys a one man promotional campaign. These app gigs basically come down to if you mind not seeing a fight live and waiting a couple of days.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Another top 3 loss would send this division into a tailspin!
Granted it would help AJ but the division as a whole would just look like shit if Fury loses.
Also @ross if you're still around I was fully wrong on Tyson Fury's level of skill and I owe you a million apologies for it, but I had never seen any slickness to him at all, but I admit it, he's quite the James J. Corbett, Gene Tunney, Jack Johnson style heavyweight. I don't like him at all, never will but he's a talented bastard hell I never thought he'd fight again after the break.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Is Tyson coming in 6 lbs heavier than his last fight a bad omen
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
6lbs seem fine, considering he's not up against wilder or AJ.
He's kept the weight down for some time now and is used to it once again. I'd expect a sharper performance.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
I wasn’t going to bother getting up for this one but made the same decision a couple of weeks ago....

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Two of the sloppiest fighters ive ever seen.
Heart/Barrera that is.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Did Hart really go up in weight to chase Ramirez? Light heavy is legit. Hart will not get to the top. Super middle is wide open. It makes no sense why he would have moved up
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Well that was fast. Fury completely outclassed Schwarz.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Joshua did you watch this fight? That's how your dumb ass should have fought.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Fury did say he will come in heavier this fight to go for an early KO and he delivered.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Some classy work from Tyson there and it looks like he is sitting down on his shots when he needs to a bit more now. Not sure he will get the time to do that with a more competitive opponent but when he can be as elusive as he is it need not be anything to stop him winning fights. For all of his skill he does present an easy target at random points though and you have to worry about that vulnerability in the Wilder rematch. If he can hit Wilder like he did Schwarz early, it gives him a much bigger chance of landing the kind of combinations he will need to stop Deontay late when they meet again.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Just watched it.
Dodging the 4 punches on the ropes the highlight of an easy expected win.
Good show though. The Americans will have loved it

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
More very clever match making .
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Well, it was as pointless as one could've hoped....Schwarz was real bad.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Schwarz was rated at 146th in the World he looked it! Fury for all his BS was just fighting a bin man nothing to get excited about.
The fight was simply to sell Fury to the Yanks job done.!

Classy and at times comical (with his facial expressions) To see that bloody nose, yeah he was setting down in his shots alright! Jab was consistent, that uppercut was nasty.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
For the record that is the biggest PPV rip off in history , first main event with a club fighter and its pay per view . lol
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Was was it was, a launchpad for Fury in the USA.
Mission accomplished.
-
Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
I thought the launchpad was Fury-Wilder.
This one felt more like sending a man into orbit and celebrating it........... after already having colonized Mars.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Fury looked good.
He did his usual entertaining job of hyping the fight, and his Apollo Creed entrance was hilarious (notwithstanding the fact that Apollo ended up being killed)
Admittedly, Schwartz was very poor indeed. Very slow feet, unimaginative in attack and he actually looked underpowered in there. This was no Ruiz in there.
It was no AJ either. Fury was confident and focused. He was much sharper than he was against Wilder and he could do what he liked against Schwartz.
For a 6'9" monster, he has seriously good skills. Good jab, excellent feints, elusive head movement. He doesn't punch with proper leverage, but when you're that big you don't need to.
I like him as a boxer more and more every time I see him. A proper fighting man.

off the top of my head, Bellew has been in 3 that were more of a rip off than this. 2 v Haye, and 1 against Cleverley at CW!

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
I just watched it again. Agree with previous about how much sharper he looked than against Wilder.
That will worry wilder.
Amazing turn around as a person too. People who previously hated him now fans.
I salute him

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Finally caught it and went the way of the showcase it was set to be. Fury definitely looks top notch but I wouldn't go overboard making him out to be Will o the wisp. Schwarz had the look of resignation after his nose was turned into an exploded pomegranate and hopefully onto better things for Fury meaning Wilder II asap.

I'm hearing big baby Miller could be Furys next opponent, he's o my got 4 of the month ban left to serve so it'd tie in perfectly with Furys next fight.

No problems with that one.
I been away so may have missed but had ruiz v Joshua 2 been confirmed?
Half expect wilder or fury to go after him

Hearns threatening legal action if Whyte doesn't get the mandatory shot (if he beats Rivas).
If Whyte does win and gets fucked about again It's criminal.
The guy deserves his shot at Wilder.

Why? 3 times he has been offered his chance and 3 times he has refused his eliminator. The organization ordered and he refused, 3 times. Dude has been given more chances than he deserves.
Wilder just fought his mandatory. He’s good on that. Let Whyte continue talking about fights while fighters fight.

Re: Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz - 15/7/19 - BT Sports/ESPN - Las Vegas
Schwarz was even worse than advertised. When you have no talent, you should at least be tough. Stopped in two by a boxer who has pillows for fists. Was this a hard punch ?
https://i.imgur.com/mOFFOHW.gif
How on earth was this Schwarz guy unbeaten? Has he been fighting even bigger bums all his life? Schwarz was just the first of many beer cans Fury will crush before facing Wilder again.
WILDER is going to post a big right hand in on Fury’s chin….trust me
https://i.imgur.com/AXwUu1O.gif
But what Fury does against good fighters is he avoids really fighting. As an entertainer Fury he is pretty good and sure better than Manny at singing but he is not what I call a fighter.
I don’t care about taking the occasional mismatch. Every boxer does. But if you remove Wilder's name, Fury has fought no one of any value at all in almost three years. If Fury is truly a top 3 HW, he needs to step up the competition in this September/October fight (Fight the winner of Whyte-Rivas) and if he were to beat the winner of that (And I'd only make Fury a 60/40 fav in that) then he can match back up with Wilder (Once again that's if Wilder gets past Ortiz) for unfinished business. Period. If he fights another slug with gloves just to pad his resume I hope the criticisms are loud.
Charles Martin next then ?

Your on about the same Dillian Whyte who's been the WBC number 1 contender for over 18 months?

I may not agree with Denilson on his race issues, but he makes some very good points here.
Schwartz WAS worse than advertised. I know most on here are rooting for Fury to succeed, and is a great "feel-good" story so far, but looking at it objectively, there's a lot of "wishing" in there.
First of all, Schwartz was pathetic. Just from that knockdown sequence alone you can tell he had no business in there, and would be summarily obliterated by ANY of the big three (Fury, AJ, Wilder).
For a man Fury's size, he puts a woefully tiny amount of leverage on his punches. Yes, he's a big man, and yes.... I'm sure they have an effect. But in the heavyweight division you should carry some serious hurt potential. Fury has none.
Fury DOES need to step up now, and step up BIG time. No more "launchpad" fights. His next fights and beyond must be against credible opposition. Yes..... kudos for the Wilder fight. Now they need to do it again.
I love entertainment as much as anybody, and Fury certainly provides a lot of that, particularly OFF the ring. But it's time to fight some live bodies.... and then get going with the business of The Rematch.
