Re: What's a "purse bid"...
For mandatory defences, if an agreement cannot be made, promoters make a 'purse bid'. In other words they bid a sum of money for a fight, that is split between the two fighters to make up the 'purse' for each fighter.

Are purse bids important? And how does one make money from that investment?

The promoter who wins the purse bid gets to decide where the fights staged too
Re: What's a "purse bid"...
They key is usually to win the bids and get home advantage.
Re: What's a "purse bid"...
King had a way of knowing exactly where to bid, which made me suspect he had some inside information.

If you were a Promoter, you would be mad not to use your connections to gain any advantage.
So yes, DKP were exceptional at winning big fights with bids that won by 'merely' a few thousand Dollars.

I see... do they get a higher percentage of the gate revenues and the endorsements, or no?
Re: What's a "purse bid"...
I am sure they get everything else after they pay the fighters.
