Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v Avni Yildirim
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez will defend his WBC and WBA world super-middleweight titles against Avni Yildirim at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida on 27 February.
The Mexican added the WBA belt to his collection in a stylish win over Britain's Callum Smith in December.
The 30-year-old has lost just once in 57 bouts and will start a heavy favourite against Turkey's Yildirim.
"Avni Yildirim is a good boxer and we will put on an exciting fight," said Alvarez, a four-weight world champion.
"I'm very glad that we are able to bring this event to Miami, a short distance from where my hero, Muhammad Ali, trained."
Yildirim, 29, has 21 wins from 23 bouts having lost to American Anthony Dirrell and Britain's Chris Eubank Jr.
His last bout - the loss to Dirrell - was in February of 2019 and his last win came in September 2018.
The bout will be the first of a two-fight deal where Alvarez - boxing's best-paid fighter - will work with British promoter Eddie Hearn.
Hearn also promotes Britain's Billy Joe Saunders, who holds the WBO belt in the 168lbs super-middleweight division.
Alvarez and 31-year-old Saunders have been linked with facing one another for over a year.
"Even in a pandemic, Saul is looking to be more active than ever and in his plan to be undisputed champion he must overcome his mandatory challengers to keep his belt," said Hearn.
"Yildirim is the first of those challenges who will be attempting to dethrone the king."

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v Avni Yildirim
We all know this is a "nothing fight." Even Canelo's team admits as such. It's a foregone conclusion. That's not the point here.
The point is THIS:
It may have gone unnoticed to most... but I can't help but noticing how this is going to be only the second time in his career that Canelo ventures outside the friendly confines of the Vegas-Texas-Southern Cal triangle to fight somebody. The first time was against the "DANGEROUS" Rocky Fielding. No bought/corrupt judges needed... no "homefield advantages"... only THEN does Canelo peek his head outside Camp Canelo.
If this was any more obvious, it would be plastered on billboards all across the country.

This fight is ridiculous.
Fight BJS or Plant asap.
Floyd schooled Canelo.
He was old and past it and boxed his ears off!
TBE.

You obviously have not heard of Sugar Ray Robinson or even Roy Jones.
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v Avni Yildirim
Still enjoying the replays of Canelos last fight, that was a good advert for Canelo.
This upcoming fights is a keep busy, make money unti the next big occasion surely.
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v Avni Yildirim
Canelos last fight was poo, smith was disappointing
maybe the short notice although he looked like he could have lost to john ryder also, maybe theres no motivation
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v Avni Yildirim
Only the little punk nationalist Canelosexuals buy into this sort of mess. We all know this is another euro level creampuff to pad records. Maybe dayzin can have another pizza patron deal for the casuals.
Like Tim "Short Bus Head" Bradley said, Yildirim is nothing more than a heavy bag to practice combinations.
Two fights back this guy fought a guy with a 3-31 record. Seriously

Floyd didn't school Canelo. He won the fight. No question. But he never hurt Canelo. Never looked stopping him. Floyd was 100% focused for the full 12. No playin.
Fury - Wilder, that's a schooling. Mayweather Gatti, That's a schooling. Schooling is when you make it look like they dont belong in the ring with you.

Negative.
Floyd didn't school Canelo. He "university-ed" him. Schooling is child's play compared to what Floyd did to Canelo. If "schooling" means you should've never gotten in the ring with the other guy..... then "university-ing" means you should've slapped anyone who even suggested you get in the ring with the other guy.
Canelo missed most of his punches by at least a foot. The only reason he got the fight in the first place is because he was the undefeated, mega-hyped pretty face of boxing... and fighting the #1 p4p was the next "logical" step. The public, mostly the casuals, clamored for the fight... hoping for some miracle so that ginger-haired statues could be erected in Mexico and Vegas (same thing, in boxing).
Floyd TOYED with Canelo. He didn't knock him out because Canelo is MUCH BIGGER than Floyd... and I'll give Ginger that... he's got a great chin.
So no... sorry. In fact, you look up the word "schooling" in the dictionary and it refers you to "university-ing", where you'll promptly be greeted by a picture of the Floyd-Canelo fight.

My personal feeling is that floyd canelo was a lot closer than people made out, yes floyd won but there were rounds where he didnt throw a punch
one early round in particular he threw one landed one, the commentators were all bumming him about it but it was a canelo round

That is true and you have to remember that just two years earlier Canelo was fighting Rhodes and Matthew Hatton, and with all the best will in the world that is some step up. It is also curious how the gap between two dominant fighters is often dictated by the timing of the bout. If the Canelo of now had met Floyd back then it may not have changed the result, but the fight would be completely different.
If he goes on and fights four times this year and stays off the beef then you have to admire the progression.
It is not just better fight plans, the guy has far more tools in his arsenal. Patience being the most devastating.
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez v Avni Yildirim
yeah the timing of the floyd canelo fight was everything in how it went and canelo is a completely different fighter now and much better to boot
Jamie Moore was involved in the greatest fight of all time when he knocked out Matthew Macklin but at no time has Jamie ever suggested he beat a peak Macklin, he has said a number of times on sky sports that Matt was on the way up and ended up at world title challenger level, probably should have won a world title against sturn which is a step further than Jamie went
But how often do you think you would ever hear Mayweather admit Canelo was on the way up? far from his peak?
when being frank the Canelo the fought mayweather wouldnt hear the final bell against the canelo of today
