Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
It appears to be official. The matchup will finally occur. Only glitch for me... it's on DAZN.
Seems Canelo the free agent was negotiating with PBC, but PBC (greedy bastards) wanted to retain Canelo for 2-3 fights and Canelo refused.
In any case, I'm glad this fight is finally being made. Should be a good one.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
December 19 will be Canelo Álvarez's (53-1-2, 36KO) first bout as a free agent, he will challenge undefeated 168lbs WBA champion Callum Smith (27-0-0, 19KO) for the title. Canelo finalized the deal with Smith's promoter Eddie Hearns, and will be broadcast on the DAZN platform.
Canelo was negotiating with PBC to face Calleb Plant, but PBC wanted to retain Canelo with 2 to 3 fights. First facing Anthony Dirrell and then doing the fight against Plant on PPV, Canelo did not like the idea of a contract for more than one fight. Hearns agreed with Canelo to do business one fight at a time.
Canelo now has control of his career and can negotiate with any company without contractual ties. Alvarez is (1-0-, 1KO) against the Smith brothers. Canelo KOed Liam Smith in 9 rounds, taking away his undefeated record and his WBO 154lbs crown.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Easy to make now he's fucked Golden Boy off 😉
4 weeks ain't long to prepare either, Canelos probably been training for Smith for weeks already and will have a rehydration clause where only he can come In at over 180llbs on fight night.
The slippery ginger drug cheat will have all the advantages here.

A sure bet.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Callum Smith by decision, credit to Canelo for taking this dangerous fight, both have probably been training during the lockdown as there is nothing else to do.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
I think a lot depends on fight night weights. I'm pretty sure about Canelo ballooning up significantly (which is why I don't buy his "not being a legit 175 to challenge Beterbiev). But Callum I know nothing about as far as size and fight night weights.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
I am sure Callum is naturally bigger than Alvarez and is huge for super middleweight. He out classed and destroyed George Groves to win the Ali trophy and mini-tournament.
If he brings that motivation and form with all things being equal I am quite certain he beats Canelo. I see Smith start fast and build a strong lead as he has the height and reach advantage. Canelo fighting back mid rounds but Callum finishing strong.
The only worry I have is the judges but a decisive lead will be enough to win the fight.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Good fight.
Callum has a lethal left hook, height, size and we shouldn’t judge his whole career on the Ryder loss..I meant fight.

Ok so... so much for the size advantage. Box checked off.
Judges. Ahh.... yeah, THERE'S a worry. Seems the fight's in Texas (Why TF doesn't Canelo fight anywhere outside of Vegas and Texas??). Thankfully, crowd noise won't be a factor to sway already biased judges.
But as to what you stated: "... but a decisive lead will be enough to win the fight." C'mon man.
You're a veteran boxing fan, just like me.
Do you really think a decisive lead will be enough to win the fight?
If it's not a knockout, there would have to be enough knockDOWNS, which of course require 10-8 rounds, to make it mathematically impossible for even CJ Ross to give the fight to Canelo.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Absolutely perfect fight for Callum. He makes a load of money and win or lose , he will go to Light Heavyweight next fight.
When I say win or lose, I mean lose. He won’t knock Canelo out, and he won’t get a points decision in the US.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
I don't think the judges or weights will make any difference here. Canelo wins handily because he's much better, imo.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Canelo wouldnt have taken this if he didn't see something in Callum.
Calum Chin sticking out if he can get near it.
Calum uses size well, but not the boxer Canelo is.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
canelo is such a boss. easy ko coming up
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
This will be good whilst it lasts as Smith likes to fight on the inside and has serious leverage and power. Be shocked if it goes the distance. However, Canelo has an iron jaw and ultimately is top elite level.
And for everyone thinking it's a shit fight because of "Ryder" should know Smith has always blown hot and cold from the start of his career. Boxing is littered throughout history with fighters motivation levels determining their performace, not that context matters to modern boxing experts/fans.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Alvarez shows everybody he runs boxing and destroys Smith in 3

it's a good fight but john was robbed against callum. but callum has a nice shiny zero & a ring belt so it's an easier sell than fives losses & no belt

I can guarantee you that does not happen, Callum Smith is no Rocky Fielding. Just allow 3 fair judges and Callum wins.

And here... therein... lies our problem.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Canelo will bust up Smith's body and stop it within 9 rounds. People will still find a way to blame Canelo corruption

three judges from callums family can be there, it won't help him any when canelo separates him from his senses
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
A better step than a BJS or Plant for me so I can't give Canelo too much stick over this at all. Basically sounds like they just needed Oscar out of the way to carry on ;D. Smith respectable but in Texas fans present and Canelo with new direction everything is favoring Canelo par for the course. Smith won't have an idea to get away from that body attack and can see stoppage late.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Callum Smith should go for Saul Alvarez body as he did against George Groves when he stopped him. Canelo chin is solid.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
At some point people have to stop with the hate and give Canelo credit. He could fight anyone, on any platform and he chose Callum because it was the fight he wanted as I told you folks it was the fight he wanted.
Maybe Kovalev was used up but going up to 175 and beating him is no small feat for a guy that started at 147. Beating Smith will be no small feat if he does it. Beating GGG in the rematch was no small feat. The list goes on. Maybe he does have everything his way, but at the end of his career we are going to look at his list of opponents and be like “F me that’s an impressive list of opponents he had every advantage against”

True, I think most have given Canelo credit for taking on the best super middleweight in the world.

At the end of the day do we want the best to fight the best or to put a guy down?
I’ve never and will never like Canelo. But he’s going to have a lot of top top names on his CV when it’s all said and done.

True.
And the best loss.

If 3 fair judges would of been employed in his last fight Smith doesn't win

Neither would Canelo in his first fight with Golovkin get a draw.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
Canelo never lost the 1st fight imo.
-
Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
If Canelo beats Callum Smith then he’s P4P number 1.
Crawford has done nothing at 147 to put him at number 1.

Re: Canelo vs Callum Smith on Dec 19th
If Canelo beats Callum Smith he should show us all he's truly #1 by going up to challenge Beterbiev. Silence all doubters and haters. :D

Outside of Beterbiev, I think this is the hardest fight for Canelo to take and much respect for him to take this.

I don't know if we can label it a robbery because there were a few close rounds but GGG definitely deserved more to get the win in the first fight, however the second one was more close and contrary to the general opinion I think Alvarez did just enough to get the decision but considering the gift he received in the first fight, the long time marinated it, and the bovine extra help he received, I feel that decision was somehow unfair for GGG. Now back to our sheeps, I don't think Cullum has what it takes to beat Canelo but I really want I'm wrong and you are right Master.

Hm, I think we have again a different opinion, Bivol is certainly better than Callum, in fact Beterbiev being almost 36 years old is very possible "The poker face" to be the best in the division right now.

With Arthur being 36 years old next month he will probably marinate (I hope you have your diner before read it ;)) it until the fifth wave of covid pass.
