Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
Well it looks like the Wbc and it's syndicate head Mauricio Sulaimán are giving us fans what we all need..another weight division. Apparently it's "designed" for fighters between 200-224 lbs. Now I'm up for new ideas *cough *cough cash grab, but would this restrict fighters within that ranger from daring to be great and facing fighters of higher weights. You know since it's so rare and so few have pulled it off. If I were Usyk I'd resist the hell out of this, seems like training wheels put on a bike that is not broken. I seem to recall they already had this in the mid 90's called the Super-cruiserweight and it disappeared after exactly 1 fight with Bobby Czyz :-X
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
It is a new name for the Super Cruiserweight division.
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
I saw the name without the story and thought that's an awful name.
Then when you recall the story. It's still a fucking awful name. No offence to the kid who put his face in the way of rampaging dog.

Why am I not surprised it's a WBC creation? Also... "syndicate head" sounds totally appropriate. ;D

Ah makes sense the name. They did the little dude right with meeting fighters and giving a belt in fairness but comes off exploitive here. It sounds like some 17th Century medical device used on witches ffs.
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
Trying to think of who will compete here
Michael Hunter
Wilder.. It just doesn't fit. The man with the biggest eraser options to fight in a lower division ???
Usyk..
Briedis comes up
JC Chavez after a bender ? Slim pickings
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
No point. Some lower quality fighter will grab the belt, but most of the better fighters around that weight will want to fight the HWs
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
sounds like another division for canelo to take over
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
I happen to think the weight classes are good the way they are.

Canelo really "took over" the light heavyweight division the way Roy Jones took over the heavyweight division.
Re: Exactly what is a 'Bridgerweight'
I'm happy this is happening. Been waiting this division for too long. Although I still think the cruiser limit should be dropped down to 190 for the sake of the light heavyweights wanting to move to.
I think a 190-215ish division would have been better but hey, can't complain.

Sounds good to me. Maybe he'll challenge Beterbiev.

Looking good is far different from taking over a division. Beating an alphabet champion in Kov or Ruiz and then running away to not take the top champion is not dominating any division but simply cherry picking.
