Re: The Strange News Thread
The OP reminded me of a funny story from my town. Way back there was a very wealthy woman who owned and lived in this entire building downtown, apparently she was a total recluse. Anyways, She willed the whole estate to her parrot, and hired a guy to keep giving the thing food and water after she died. There were rumours that the guy was paid off to poison it by some delevoper, as it is prime real estate and parrots can live forever. Its now a hotel, and on the ground floor they have a pub called the parrot house.

For the one or two baseball fans here............. @Spicoli
Is it just me? Or did this player just catch a foul ball down the right field line instead of "saving a home run"??

I watched it several times to be sure... but it's obvious the ball was nowhere near the home run fence. Instead, you can see the first baseman running into the picture as the right fielder flies over the fence to catch what would've just been a foul ball.
Re: The Strange News Thread
I always wondered what the actual U.S.-Mexico border looked like at the beach.... so I thought this was interesting. Couple of years old, but still interesting.

Ok, so a few questions/comments come to mind:
1. Who decided how far to extend the wall into the water?
2. Maintenance on that section of the wall must be hell. I wonder how many times it's needed a complete rebuild. Saltwater and wave action will do a number on that steel.
3. If a surfer plows right into the edge of the wall and dies... did he die in the U.S. or Mexico?
It's just kind of surreal seeing a video of that and listening to people who actually surf there.
Re: The Strange News Thread

Flaming Mouse Burns Down Man's House
Published January 8, 2006
A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire.
Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it.
"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.
Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there and throughout the house.
No was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed.
"I've seen numerous house fires," village Fire Department Capt. Jim Lyssy said, "but nothing as unique as this one."

Mouse helps keep shed squeaky clean
When screws and bits of metal started appearing in a bird feed container an infrared camera helped solve the mystery.
Steve Mckears, who lives in Severn Beach, near Bristol, said the problem started mid February when he found a screw in among the peanuts he was preparing for the birds.
He said he removed the screw but the next day there was "a load more in there".
After the objects kept returning he enlisted the help of a photographer who installed a motion-operated night vision camera.

Now that's hustle! Yeh I'm betting the writer barely glimpsed the vid and audio. Probably didn't make it beyond T Ball as a kid either ;D.
Weird field. No actual stands and play by play guys need a dose of Mauro Ranallo :action: to liven it up.

To carry on the animal theme.
Alleged Russian spy whale is refusing to leave and seeking Norwegians’ devotion, authorities say

Re: The Strange News Thread
I'd bet the whale was just pretending to be friendly, so as to not arouse any suspicion. It knows that if captured, it could be tortured until it sings like a canary. Once back in Russia, the whale will receive the red carpet treatment. All the squid and octopus it can eat, and an unlimited supply of breeding mates.
