X is going to New York City
Is anyone here from the Big Apple, or has anyone been there recently?
4 of us go out there in about a week and a half. We have 4 days there, then we go to Tobago for two weeks. :)
We are staying at the Westin on Times Square, going to see the Empire State Building, Macy's, Statue of Liberty and maybe Ground Zero. What else would people recommend?
Any help, guidance, ideas, warnings etc would be much appreciated!! :excited:
Thanks

Re: X is going to New York City
there is lots to do. Take the boat tour at night of Manhattan. Go to Wall Street, do not go inside the statute of liberty. It is both hot and cramped. See it from outside. Go to the museum of natural history, try little Italy. See and walk on the Brooklyn Bridge. Nightlife is cool. Try time square at night. Check out Central Park.
Go to Harlem, wear a white hood and gown.
Re: X is going to New York City
I've just stayed in the Westin for 4 days 8)
It's a wicked hotel. Great location. Great room service...
New Yorks pretty hard to fit in, in four days. We got tickets for the Grayline bus (You'll see the guys in Times Square - It's all legit). The bus takes you round all the important points so you at least feel you've seen some of the places.
Get to the Empire State early cos you don't wanna spend your day in the queue.
Do have a mince round Central Park.
Ground Zero was a bit weird. What I mean, is that they've purposefully not gone over the top with the tourist stuff there. They give you a timeline to follow for the day it happened but it's just so hard to comprehend what used to be there and the scale of the loss of life that you kinda come away feeling a bit...weird.
Oh yeah, definitely go to Abercrombie and Fitch on 5th Ave. It's better than must clubs I've been to and the birds are awesome 8)

If you see a Jamaican standing on the street corner sporting dredlocks with a long coat, and he signals you to come his way - don't hesitate just go over there. $20 worth will keep you fucked up for a good 8 hours :D
Re: X is going to New York City
Steelie did you go in the statute of liberty.
it was a nightmare for me. the line outside just to get in is very long. Then you get in and you start climbing. and it gets cramped. I dont care what they said there was no air conditioning in there. It was cramped. By the time I got to the crown, I could care less about looking out. I just wanted to get the eff out of there. I understand at one time you could climb up to the torch but I wouldnt even think of it.
eff it. It looks better from the outside.
Re: X is going to New York City
No M_D, we gave it a miss. We went as far as Battery Park and took pics from there.
Re: X is going to New York City
I remember walking toward battery park, the street that led us there was right behind the WTC. I wasn't even looking for them. there are so many tall buildings,
I remember looking up and noticed that I was walking by two massive buildings, man were the WTC towers huge. It was incredible. The view of the finance district from the brooklyn bridge was also amazing.
I had friends who have gone over to China, specifically to Shanghai. He tells me that skyscrapers are also being built there. He says its starting to look like new york only newer and with a lot of chinese guys speaking of course chinese.
Re: X is going to New York City
