What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
Well I’ve just watched this two part documentary on Sky Atlantic and have to say it was excellent.
Wasn’t going to bother as thought it would be just like all the rest we’ve seen time and again but this is a fully comprehensive biography of the man with nothing left out.
A must watch for any boxing fan. And a must for those younger fans who believe Mike Tyson is the greatest of all time....

Thanks for that. I saw the last part of Part 1 of 2, and then saw all of Part 2. I've tried to see when they're showing Part 1 again, but to no avail.
Wonderful documentary to be sure. I myself thought it would be more of the same and was delightfully surprised.
If they show Part 1 again, I'm there.

Learnt some new stuff too.
Never knew that Angelo Dundee was actually in Jimmy Ellis corner the night him and Ali fought.
Re: What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
The one aspect the documentary didn't delve into very much was the animosity between Ali and Frazier. Maybe because they didn't want to put too much emphasis on Ali's penchant for becoming personal with some of his opponents.

I read he was with him first or had some legitimate reason to be there that Ali was OK with it.
Re: What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
He was Ellis manager as well as trainer.
So stood to make more money being in his corner apparently.
Re: What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
I found part one on youtube but I can't find part 2.

Re: What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
That was a different link you put up @Manos de Piedra
Still interesting.
I thought all the old great fighters, before Muhammid Ali, trained at Big Bear, I did not realise Ali bought a property at Big Bear and that other fighters followed.
I did not realise it was Ali that wrote on the rocks the great heavyweight fighters names on them such as Johnson, Rocky and Louis.
Re: What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
Yes - I'd love to visit it. Am presuming the rocks are still there etc

It wasn't mate - it was his dad that painted all the names on the rocks. Cassius Snr was a reasonably gifted artist and he painted them all.

I did not mean Ali personally painted the rocks, just that he was the first to go to big bear and the other boxers followed and set their training camps there.
When I originally saw the names on the rocks I thought that maybe Johnso , Rocky and Louis trained there.
Re: What’s My Name : Muhammad Ali
So your knowledge of history, painting and rocks is consistent with your bollocks knowledge of boxing
