Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Brilliant middleweight world title fight being finalised for September or October as Jermall Charlo and Sergiy Derevyanchenko prepare to meet.
The boxing schedule is understandbly weak at present, with the coronavirus pandemic taking its toll on the sport.
As fights are only able to be staged behind closed doors, most major names are opting to wait until later in the year before making their ring returns.
However, Jermall Charlo vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko is a fight which could significantly lift the mood.
According to The Athletic, America’s WBC middleweight champion and the Ukrainian two-time title challenger have agreed on all major deal points and are now finalising a match-up.
Charlo is a two-weight world champion with a record of 30-0 (22 KOs).
At super-welterweight, he proved himself as one of the division’s best by knocking out Julian Williams, but fans have been sceptical of his middleweight reign.
Charlo is yet to face top opposition at 160lbs and only picked up his WBC title by being upgraded when Canelo Alvarez was made ‘franchise’ champion.
In steps Derevyanchenko.
The 34-year-old’s unremarkable record of 13-2 (10 KOs) far from tells the full story of his career.
In his two title shots he recovered from early knockdowns, first losing on a split decision to Daniel Jacobs and then a close unanimous decision to Gennady Golovkin.
Many felt, especially in the GGG fight, that Derevyanchenko had been hard done by.
Regardless of whether he holds a belt or not, he’s proved himself as a legitimate world class middleweight and will be a tough test for Charlo.
The fight is truly a 50/50 and may end up being the best contest we see in the second half of this tumultuous year.

Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Hopefully this fight comes off. It’s a huge boost for the winner.
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Cracking fight in prospect.
Derevyanchenko is a quality operator & he arguably should have got the nod against Golovkin.
Charlo is good too, but he needs a big dog at 160 to prove himself & Sergiy is that man.
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Oh, would this lift my mood.;D
I'm jonesing for a fight so bad I'd watch Shannon Briggs vs Evander Holyfield if they made it. Ashamed to say it, But I would. Can only make so many karate threads man...:-\
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Any truth that Derevyanchenko passed up a Canelo match for Charlo?? Have to figure Canelo and company cannot roll out the massive pay offs now and even Canelo has to take 'short' money. Love the styles match up of these two. I'm not completely convinced Charlo has made wise strides or invested the hard work at 160 to cope with Derevyanchenko who I think much of time was beating Golovkin chunks at a time by fighting his fight. Hope this doesn't fall through!
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Showtimes schedule has some very good matches listed. I just hope we don't have many drop off before fight night.
Charlo can make a statement here with an impressive showing and credit to both guys for making it happen. Derevyanchenko seem like a fighter that will take on anyone. I'll wait until closer to the fight to make a pick. Whatever happens I hope we get a clear winner with no controversy. Derevyanchenko won't want to leave another close fight in the judges hands.

Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Jermall Charlo is set to face Sergiy Derevyanchenko on Saturday 26th September 2020 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.
The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds in the Middleweight division, which means the weight limit will be 160 pounds (11.4 stone or 72.6 KG).
This contest is for the WBC middleweight championship of the world.
Charlo will be making his 3rd defence of the WBC World Middleweight Championship. He was promoted from a secondary belt in June 2019. He has held this belt for a total of 446 days (1 year 2 months and 18 days).
This fight will appear on the undercard of Jermell Charlo's and Jeison Rosario's clash for the WBC World Super Welterweight, WBA Super World Super Welterweight and IBF World Junior Middleweight champions.
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
If both Charlos win, then they are probably both considered #1 in their division. Jermell I think would be the pretty clear #1. I don’t think that Canelo is going back to middleweight so I think Jermall would probably be the man to beat at that point. GGG maybe but I thought he lost to Derevyanchenko.
Maybe they wouldn’t necessarily be considered the best, but I think both would become the man to beat in the division.
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
“I’ve had so many good fighters in my career, but Jermall is right up there at the top with Evander Holyfield, Vernon Forrest and Pernell Whitaker. He works hard and pays attention to what he has to do. The thing that separates them is that he knows how to watch his opponent and he knows what he’s in for.”
Trainer Ronnie Shields on unbeaten WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, who fights Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a pay-per-view bout on Sept. 26.
Re: Jermall Charlo v Sergiy Derevyanchenko
The ppv of $75 is nuts but can't think of another time when both Charlos had a bigger legitimate chance for losing at once. Gathering up all the major trinkets, 154, and putting them on one shoulder is what we need more of.

Charlo brothers hoping to show off in pay-per-view fights
The Charlo brothers are determined to put on a show on boxing's biggest card since the arrival of the pandemic.
All they can hope is people will pay to tune in and watch it.
A pair of titles will be at stake when the best twins in boxing return to the ring Saturday night at a Connecticut casino in a Showtime pay-per-view event. Jermell takes on Jeison Rosario in a 154-pound title unification, while Jermall goes up against Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a 160-pound title defense.
The fights will head separate three-bout cards with a 30-minute break in between designed to showcase the 30-year-old twins, who have only one loss between them.

''There's nothing bigger for us,'' Jermell Charlo said. ''This is our Super Bowl. This is our national championship. It's time for us to go get our belts.''
For Jermell Charlo (33-1, 17 knockouts) it's both a chance to continue the comeback after suffering his only loss two years ago and to unify three major belts at 154 pounds. For his brother, it's a fight against a proven challenger and an opportunity to display his dominance at middleweight.
Both cards will be offered on pay-per-view for $74.99, a strategy to maximize revenue without live fans but one that will limit the audience for the bouts.
''After I win this fight the sky is the limit,'' Jermall said. ''I know people will respect me a lot more after this, but I'm focused on only this fight. This fight is another big stepping stone toward even bigger fights to come.''
Those fights should have already happened for the brothers, who began boxing professionally a dozen years ago. Both have been brought along carefully, only to watch as others in their weight classes chase the bigger fights and biggest names.
Oddsmakers figure Jermall (30-0, 22 knockouts) will have the toughest test as he attempts to retain his piece of the middleweight title against a fighter whose last outing was a close loss to Gennadiy Golovkin. Derevyanchenko is 13-2, with his losses both close decisions against Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.
''Derevyanchenko is a come forward fighter. He's going to bring a lot of power and speed with good technical skills,'' Jermall Charlo said. ''He calls himself 'The Technician' but we'll see how technical he is once I start putting my jab in his face. I'm going to use all my natural skills in this fight.''
Derevyanchenko said his experience fighting middleweight champions will prove the difference in the bout.
''Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs were tough fights, they were both close fights and I think those experiences definitely helped me,'' he said. ''I'll show it in the ring on Saturday.''
The brothers from Houston last fought in December, with Jermell stopping Tony Harrison in the 11th round to avenge his only loss and regain his piece of the 154-pound title. In his return to action he faces Rosario (20-1-1, 14 knockouts), a Dominican who upset Julian Williams to win several bouts in January.
''People will say that they can't wait to see us fight again after Saturday,'' Jermell said. ''We come to fight. We prepared all our life for this. Now is our time.''

Biggest fight night in ages and crickets. Props to the Charlo’s for seeking out competition. They may have bitten off more than they can chew. We’ll see. Great to have competitive boxing back.

We'll see if they outpriced themselves in such a tight-pocket time. Awful decision to me. These young fighters don't understand a fanbase has to be built first.
