Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
In homage to the film thread.
Giri/Haji - A Japanese/London drama/thriller about two brothers caught in the Yakuza/London crime world crossover. It's not some silly hard man shit, it's all about family, loyalty, culture clash, relationships, a bit "arty" (not in a bad way, in an Inception way without the confusion).
Peaky Blinders series 5 - If there's ever been anything better than this drama I don't believe it (first season of True Detective aside). The mixing of real life characters with fiction is superb - Churchill, Mosley, fascists, toffs. It's worth watching just for the sets and soundtrack alone (Nick Cave).

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
I see that peaky blunder on Netflix, haven’t started watching it yet as I see it has 5 seasons and I don’t know if I can jump ahead and it’ll still make sense. I was able to watch the last season of game of thrones last week. IMO it was one of the grandest shows made thus far.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
The closest to watching a TV series but not really a box set is Big Bang. Nothing else.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Treadstone is pretty good, based on the group/ project that created Jason Bourne.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Finished The Wire which was great. Started Better call Saul this week and surprisingly bingeable if not relatable ;D.

I have that problem with highly rated series too, if they're too far in I can't be bothered to even start them. I wouldn't recommend Peaky Blinders without seeing the story/character development.
Game of Thrones was so convoluted I never had a clue what was happening from one series to the next.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
There were a lot of characters in game of thrones and even the main characters were getting killed it was difficult to remember who was doing what to whom. They jumped around a lot which didn’t help but the cinematography was so damn well done. It was beautiful to watch. I’ve always enjoyed castles and knights and what not so it was great for me. Deadwood was great as well.

I got board with Peaky Blinders.

You'll be interested in the prequel 'House of The Dragon' they are planning then.

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
I find it difficult to watch TV 'properly' now. I don't think I could wait for a Monday night to come around to watch my favourite show for an hour then repeat. The last time I did that was season 5 of Line of duty, I binged 1 - 4. Awesome program about a police anti corruption unit, investigating separate crimes but all intertwined with one another that lead back to the top of the police force.
Just watched living with yourself. Paul Rudd goes to a weird strip mall spa that promises to sort out all his life problems. They do that by cloning him and bumping off the original, but the original doesn't die, so now there's two of them. It was OK. Short punchy episodes, but they tended to spend a fair bit of time recounting the previous episode in the next so it felt like there wasn't a lot of forward movement.
I tried game of thrones but it was too difficult to not know exactly what was happening way ahead of where I was so binned it off.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
I would not mind watching the Paul Rudd one. I saw him promote that and they showed a clip which looked good.
I watch Apprentice every week but nothing else that religiously.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Started Giri\Haji - not bad so far
Did Top Boy - excellent. Don't make the mistake some are making and watch the new series before the previous 2 (now called Top Boy : Summerhouse)
Jack Ryan season 2 is out today and I still need to finish Stranger Things 3 and Bosch 5.
Netflix is like having homework hanging over you at times.....
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
I binged Line of Duty too after the hype earlier in the year. How the funk we ever watched anything at weekly intervals is beyond ridiculous, I have to rewatch the last 10 minutes of every episode just to know where i'm at.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Netflix is releasing 43 new shows this month. They really need to work now with Apple and Disney coming. i think that 43 is movies and shows. Netflix is making their own game of thrones type thingy. It’s funny, Netflix started with two guys trying to figure out if DVD’s could make it through the mail. By the way Apple officially releases today.
I don’t like the binging thing, I got sucked into it with a couple shows but I literally felt like I had a hangover at the end.

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
I used to love the postal DVD services. It started to become more about how quickly you could get the fuckers ripped and sent back to get some more, rather than actually watching anything.
-
Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
I forgot about Power. Am on the last series of that now but its run its course. Hope this is the last.
Watching series on terrestrial TV now and having to wait a week is a proper ball ache. Can't see that lasting another 12 months

I remember that mate 😁 Film 4 or Love film or something like that.
They'd arrive scratched to fuck 😂

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Is anyone planning on dropping Netflix for Disney or Apple? I have stock in Netflix and I’m torn on what to do.

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
You can find everything for free.

No doubt but it’s undeniable 100’s of millions of people pay for streaming and cable and I don’t see that stopping. The real question to me is how successful these new services will be and how much of a negative effect will it have on Netflix stock. I actually had Netflix stock before I had Netflix because I thought the idea was cool

I'm team Netflix. It's a messy but entertaining irresistible. Still on Prime video too. the prices for new are trash but you find some gems in 'free prime'. On a random note I just paid monthly $65 for storage of misc mags and 2k VHS fight tapes ;D:p.

I think Netflix has developed a great interface. It’s user friendly and people are accustomed to it all these years. The only issue I have is there is so much content I usually go online to find out what’s on. They have a lot riding on things like the Irishman. Almost 200 million to make and they needed to make sure it was a brief stint beforehand in the theaters or companies would start demanding that for more productions.

You can definitely get 'lost' in it and the variety. Love to just enter a random actor and it branches out from there. The Irishman looks absolutely worth a watch and have to wonder how many will just wait out the few weeks until it's on Netflix. Could be a precursor to movie theaters going the way of newspapers but too much money involved surely. Stumbled into 'Haunted' the other night which reminded me why I'm not into all that twisted skeeery stuff :-X

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
That’s the annoying thing re Netflix and amazon. There’s stuff on there which you might want to see but you’ll never find....You could even find yourself paying for a film on Amazon that’s free on Netflix...
I used to stream everything for free but got pissed off with it going off half way through or worse just near the end and in the end it’s just not worth the hassle for me.
Don’t mind paying 5 quid to watch a film really.

I never stream, I download everything. I'd prefer to use that 5 quid to make some sandwiches for the homeless around my area.

Pirate Bay is still around, 1337x, or rarbg. Use a program called utorrent or qbittorrent to download. I think you should be able to do it on an IPad.
I'm not sure what evidence I can provide, apart from my word and I'll attach a photo, I'm far from perfect, but buy 2 extra loaves of bread, extra salad, and a kg of ham each shopping day, to make and hand out around my area. I also offer free rides in my car, where and when I can. It's not much, but I'm trying to make a difference in my community.

Thanks heaps, but not really looking for recognition. These things mean more when people aren't trying to flaunt it or the whole look at me and what I'm doing crap. But imagine what I could do with NASA's daily budget ;D

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Top Boy - watched it over the past couple of weeks, liked it because of where it was set, however, found it hard to have sympathy with the characters, especially season 3. I hated everyone apart from Sully. And I don't want to make a political point but it's not a coincidence that season 3, after a decade gap in this current climate, portrays all the black single mothers as angels, the drug dealer loving dads/guardians as "hustling a living" whilst white people are to blame for everything and untrustworthy devils (even the poor skagheads were wronguns).

A lot of whites outside London are racist as hell. I know I live amongst them (:
No Asian racists though. Not just in Britain. Nowhere in the world are there any racists Asians. I have it on good authority from ...................

I can assure you Asian people of all description (not just Bruce Lee) are the most racist towards black people i've ever come across. And yes there's lots of white racists in London too... they're called East Europeans... and geriatrics.

No you are Wrong. When I told Gandalf that some of the most racist things I have ever heard, came out of the mouths of Asians, he assured me there were no Asian racists in the world and also assured me I did not know any Asians. So my Asian step-mother of almost 40 years is obviously just a figment of my imagination. ;D

Re: Last TV show/Box Set you watched? (Flag spoilers)
Chernobyl is absolutely fucking brilliant. Shame it's only seven or eight episodes long.
I would highly recommend the first two plus series of Gomorra, a show about the Neapolitan mafia. Series three is actually OK too but series four starts to go downhill, very predictable painting by numbers stuff. I still have one or two episodes of it to watch and I'm not sure I will. Probably will at some point. The first series though are fantastic.
I'm sure I've seen something else in between those shows but can't remember.

Anyone seen Patriot Act with Hasan Minjah on Netflix?
Any opinions?
I watched two episodes and I can pretty much guess how different people would view these.
It's kind of a light, comedic half hour (or so) take on different political and social issues.

And you'd be right I'm absolutely certain. I needn't even watch it, I know Hasan Minaj, I know his comedy and his politics.
I mean good on you if you enjoy it, but it ain't for me.
I'm set to watch all of Deadwood. I think I'll invest in some whiskey before that occurs though
